Middlesex vs Sri Lanka

Lol, Sri Lanka are going to get pounded if the pitches are flat.
 
Sri Lankan bowling attack looks very weak without Murali and Malinga. Middlesex are making them pay as England will aswell.
 
Malinga has retired from tests too!

This could be a fairly easy series for England. I don't know how SL will bowl us out.
 
^ Just remembered ... we got absolutely clobbered at Lords (was it?) by an innings and 200-something runs. Bad memories. :butt

I think Sri Lanka will even under perform Bangladesh on this tour.

Their test bowling lineup looks hopeless. In 2006 Murali took 26 wickets in the 3 match series and he was backed up by Vaas, 'Kula-Shaker' and an in form Maharoof. This time round they don't even have an inform spinner.
 
I have played at Uxbridge .... what a batting paradise. No wonder SL 70/0 at the moment.
 
Sri Lanka giving a strong reply. 85/0 in 14 overs. With Sanga and Mahela joining the team soon, they will have one of the strongest batting lineups ever on a tour.
 
202/0 in 40 overs, as strong a reply as one would ever see. Dilshan leading from the front , 117* (129), brilliant batting so far.
 
It's difficult to tell much about the quality of the Sri Lankans from this. It seems to be a fairly flat pitch, and this is a very weak Middlesex bowling attack. None of the Middlesex bowlers in this team have played in the County Championship so far this season. I think of these bowlers only either Smith or Dalrymple are likely to feature in Middlesex's next CC game, and that's only because Ollie Rayner has finished his loan spell and gone back to Sussex.
 
Swanny, Jimmy, Stuey and Tremmers are going to be a different prospect to the Middlesex third XI bowling attack.

Hundreds for Strauss, Housego, Dilshan and Paranavitana.

Final day. Looks to be heading towards a draw.
 
As Harvey said, none of the Middlesex bowlers who are playing this game have played a first-class game this season. Bit easy.
 
Yeah, good decision to keep away Tremmers, Jimmeh, Swanneh etc from the practice match.

SL attack ain't looking that great either. Should be interesting nevertheless.
 
It's all deliberate. Keep the good bowlers away and make sure the Sri Lankan batsmen get used to rubbish ones. Play the England captain so he can settle in against their average bowlers. With the April sunshine breaking up and the clouds closing back in, this series should be a walk in the park.

England had two wonderful KP innings to thank for not losing that series!! We got mullered at Trent Bridge. That was the beginning of the Flintoff captaincy nightmare.
 
We're getting decent at Lords now. The only decent bowler SL possess in test cricket is Randiv, the rest are rubbish.
 
I hope they get similar overhead conditions/pitch conditions as to what we got last year. Fuaark I remember going outside with the score on 10 or something and returning one hour later with the score near unchanged with more wickets down.
 
I'm putting it out there now - I don't think Swannee will get many wickets this tour. Maybe 8 at the most across 3 Tests.
 
Patel looked more threatening than Swann during that last televised game on Sky :(

I think Graeme is a bit rusty though, too much pyjama cricket.

he'll be a'ight. He often performs when he needs to. We'll be taking 60 wickets in this series, and he usually takes at least a quarter of our wickets, so 15 is a conservative estimate.

eh. Lords is still pretty dominant. It's the only ground that is guaranteed two sold-out tests a year. Even the Oval usually gets one only, and the others scrap for the remaining spots. Got to give other grounds a chance. Last test to be played at Cardiff had a classic finish.

True, the other grounds deserve a chance but the prestige of Lord's warrants it be the first fixture. Not a big deal though, maybe it's just me.
 
Nah. Lords don't mind either. As long as they get their membership fees and their sell-outs, which they always will.
 
Reading some of comments here, it looks as though England just need to turn up and they will sweep the series. Will not be easy especially if England are complacent.

Some of the Lankan seamers could be quite handy especially if there are lots of clouds hovering around.
 
It's Sri Lanka who should be worried about cloud cover, Jimmy A will be licking his lips.

Those were both ridiculous predictions/comments though. Saying that Sri Lanka will be thrashed isn't ridiculous when the consider how strong England are at home & how weak Sri Lanka look on paper.

Swann is a quality bowler and anyone who watched him before last summer already knew that, and Pakistan are far too unpredictable a side to predict a whitewash in any series.
 
Looks like it. Although tbf, i reckon my local village side could give that Middlesex XI a good game.
 
Good practice game for the Lankans. A win here will will be a huge boost considering they arrived in England only 2-3 days back.

Makes the next practice match against the Lions quite interesting with Mahela and Jayawardene joining the squad.

They're going for it. They have 55 mins to make 57 runs. Dilshan at the crease. 6 wickets in hand.
 
Being 360-8 after the first day of a 3 day game, and going on to lose, ouch.

Yes and he cut his IPL party short to prepare for this tour. It says a lot about his commitment to the cause. Hope he has a good series.

They drew with England in a series a few years back, and they beat the Aussies in a one-day series just a few months ago. They're not world beaters abroad, but they get far less chances to acclimatize and gain experience.

Just to give an example: Australia , England and south Africa are the toughest tours for a subcontinental team, and where they have to perform to gain respect. Yet they've played 12 test matches in the last ten years in England, Australia and South Africa combined!! The last of those being in 2007, more than 3 years ago in Australia.

England are favorites,but I expect the Sri Lankans to give them a scare in one of the tests, maybe even pull out a win.
