Persistent rain, bad weather declare Mirpur Royals KPL-2 champions

Muzaffarabad: Persistent rain and wet outside have washed out the final of the Kingdom Valley Kashmir Premier League, season two.

Mirpur Royals were to face Bagh Stallions however due to the better position at the points table, Mirpur Royals were declared the winner of the KPL, season two.

Seven outfits took part in the KPL-2, held at the Muzaffarabad Cricket stadium.

KPL - Poor TV coverage

Living in the UK I only managed to watch 2 matches (which were on late). The rest of the matches were transmitted on Geo News during the day I presume with no highlights in the evening. This is very poor showing on part of the TV channels and management. If you make it so hard for viewers to watch matches how do you promote the league?
And why are matches only played in Muzaffarabad, a dark and dingy stadium with small population most of whioch are adminstrators or students. Surely they need to brighten things up. How about playing in Mirpur; they would fill the stadium for a start.
IMO the KPL needs a bit of colour and more life adding to it. More spactators are a must. But most of all TV coverage around the world has to be available to everyone at peak times whether it be live or highlights.
KPL management - wake up!!!

I agree. I would love to give KPL a try. Never watched it before.

Coverage needs to be better.

A number of ump*ires and match referees, who rendered their services in last year’s Kashmir Premier League haven’t been paid their match fees till date, Dawn has learnt.

All of the officials in question are affiliated with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which permits the holding of the regional T20 league, of which the second edition was held in June 2022.

Pakistan’s top umpires including Aleem Dar and Ahsan Raza performed duties during the tournament and with the third edition scheduled to be held later this year, both the officials including many others still await their dues from last year.

One of the key umpires, who have been affected by the situation, claimed his lower-grade peers had received their match fees. The umpire, on the condition of anonymity, said the estimated dues were around Rs3 million.

“We are still in negotiations with the organisers but they keep asking us to wait ‘for some more time’,” he told Dawn.

The umpire demanded that the PCB should take up the matter with the KPL organisers before giving them the green signal for the third edition.

A KPL spokesman told Dawn that the payments have been delayed due to the league having suffered “huge losses” with several matches of the second edition having been washed out due to rain. The spokesman, however, claimed that the dues will be cleared “soon”.
