Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis step down from coaching roles

Ramiz speaking about the resignations:

“The decision to accept the resignations of Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis was taken by the previous board but If I had a chat with them, I would have talked to them on these lines too"

I could understand if Misbah won us a WC or broke records as a batsman for us like Inzi or MoYo then I could understand if he has fans. Truth is he was at best an okay batsman who never won us games and had his success on the back of Ajmal and the best memory he will forever leave behind is the final and semi final against India. So I'm truly baffled why he has hardcore fans.

The man has wasted two years as a coach with his dinosaur tactics.

I have a recurring horrible thought that one day this guy will end up as PCB chairman.

Absolutely the worst coach we have had. And good riddance.
Don’t be surprised if he is the chairman after Rameez.

So Misbah claiming that after West Indies tour the team selection was done for World Cup without any input from them. He is saying we are also stakeholders and we did not want to leave the team in the middle.
Wasim Akram commenting that this is part of our culture and sympathising with Misbah.

What about Wasim saying that he brought his friends blah blah, such hypocrites

Misbah - Waqar nexus

It is hurting us more than any of the match fixing , 2009 scandals
This (more than a buddy) deep friendship is making sure we remain a third class team

Hurting us more than Match fixing :))) ok.

Btw, they have resigned, they are not with the team. Anything that now happens it isnt their fault. Find someone else to blame

Next time, plz put more effort in your OP

I won't blame Waqar, Misbah was the real problem.

I feel sad for Waqar; given what he has achieved as a player, he could have done wonders as a coach, but what he instead did was just to show his poor man management skills o everyone

This guy gets offended very easily; Wahab asking why Tabish did not play, ad to that Waqar replied, then Wahab should have been dropped

What an egoistical person, Waqar is

Yes, spot fixing issue ; you can rebuild team in 6-12 months
But with Misbah, you are rebuilding forever, so that Misbah can keep his job

"Anything happens now isn't their fault". Classic!

Exactly what Misbah and Waqar want the nation to think and gullible folks like you will fall right into this trap.

However, not everyone is that naive. This is 100% their team and their set of players. Whatever happens will be reflective of the work these two have done in the last few years.

Are you for serious? Rebuild in 6-10 months LOL
Is that what you think happened in 2010

Misbah speaking to media:

"Well done to those who think that the team has started to perform better after my departure, - I am also happy to see the Pakistan team winning"

"The team is performing under Babar Azam's captaincy while Saqlain Mushtaq is managing the players really well. Our Test side is strong and can beat Bangladesh at their home"

"The cricketers [Malik and HAfeez] themselves can make a better decision regarding their future. They know better how long they can play for the national team and play their part in victories"

Was it premature to fire Misbah as the coach, especially without a proper replacement ?

Misbah is probably better suited to an admin or chairman like role but he has a good awareness of asian/home conditions

NO... correct decision... Answer for your question is just above your comment from MISBAH himself when he said when Pakistan win all their matches in T20 WC..

This Aus home series loss doesnt justify his firing.. Misbah & Waqar getting terminated was a good riddance.. If he was the coach , Abdullah Shafique would still be warming the bench..

Very stubborn and defensive mindset... Fear of failure, fear of changes, etc ..

Should be nowhere near any role...

Intikhab Alam Iqbal Qasim Mushtaq Ahmed Waqar Younis Misbah ul Haq Younis Khan Azhar Mehmood Muhammad Akram Saqlain Mushtaq Muhammad Yousuf
That's the database of PCb for coaching jobs it just keeps rotating just wait now one of them will make another comeback

That was the best day of 2021 for Pakistan cricket when these losers resigned or they were forced to resign.
I really really hope they never come back again.
Azhar Ali still playing that misbah's awful defensive role hopefully they kick him out soon.

In hindsight, it was a decision that has started to blow up.

In world t20 we performed because of the team misbah created.

If you want to remove Misbah than atleast hire a full time coach. Rameez Raja's thinking is that coaches are not required in cricket.....

Anyways, rameez doesnt even have guts to admit he was the one behind their removal

I think the loser Misbah's legacy still haunting us , team needs to bury that losing mentality of " safety first and draw being the first priority " once for all , to make any progress.

Well with the same team, Misbah and Waqar wouldnt have had the team qualify for the next round..

Dont take credit for someone else presence in the dressing room

Misbahs tenure as coach saw the team drag to seventh spot in the rankings from being number 1..

Before Misbah became the coach , the t20 team never lost a series for 2 years and hold onto number 1 in the rankings, but soon after he took seat as coach Srilanka C team whitewashed these guys in their own backyard, thats how contagious is his defensive , negative, safety first approach...

He should be nowhere near any role in PCB, such a dull and meek character to work with in a setup..

He can throw balls and keep wickets probably as long as he is fit but that doesnt qualify him for leaders of men...

Everyone knows Misbah destroyed Pakistan cricket, just like Gen Zia did with Pakistan , but one lone warrior keep bringing Misbah in every discussion for no reason , just to annoy everyone. Well, he has all the right to do this, but its really annoying.

Definitely a poor decision and RR only did it as a PR stunt. Deep down even the haters know that we would've won this series if Misbah was still here

Its funny how Naseem has started bowling better now that Waqar is out of the picture.

At the time both Misbah and Waqar breathed a sigh of relief after resigning that they didn't have to be caged up in bio secure bubbles anymore and now they are crying for being fired.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. If you wanna blame him for everything than give credit as well.

You had 4 coaching brains in the dressing room for the T20WC, tell me what they did that was different from Misbah? They weren't even brave enough to drop players that Misbah supported. What's the point of such coaches? At least Misbah was a decision maker

Ramiz on Waqar and Misbah:

“They received their full payments for two years. They were given full respect. As a chairman, it was my right to dismiss them. Even now, they are talking about removing Saqlain Mushtaq and replacing him with Mickey Arthur. I made contracts in such a way that I didn't want the board to be left with a coaching setup for three years,”

"We had yearly contracts. They (Misbah and Waqar) would've left in January/February anyway. We brought a new management. It wasn't easy for me. I've played with Waqar, I talked to him in detail. The CEO talked to Misbah. It obviously didn't look good that the change took place with a week or 10 days before the T20 World Cup. But I had an idea that we could only go to a certain extent with them. When I used to do commentary, I realised that a change was necessary."

if you are gonna talk about your rights of removing anyone than fair enough. The constitution gave it a right to remove you and you were removed so dont whine now.

Misbah and Waqar built that team, not hayden or saqlain. They should had been there in the dugout. Atleast you should have had guts to talk to Misbah instead of placing the CEO forward.

Rameez Raja whines about his own removal but will justify other peoples removal he made. This was poorly handled by him. The contract should had been completed and both parties would had said goodbye.

Anyways, this helped in Misbah's favor as he got to be part of a great sporting channel for whom he has now appeared for two seasons.

Removing Misbah from the limited overs side was the right move but it back fired for us in test cricket.

Waqar was a better bowling coach than Shaun Tait the massive difference in the results of the pacers in test cricket in 2021 and 2022 is staggering.

Overall, good and fair assessment.

so rameez lied.....

No, the same bowlers had failed in Eng, NZ, Aus under Waqar/Misbah in 2019-2020.

They did well at home vs SA only.

The test bowling has been poor since 2019.

There's also a difference in the opposition they faced.

We played weak teams in 2021 compared to 2022. Let's also not forget how our pacers totally flopped in AUS, ENG and NZL in 2019 and 2020.

Does all of this really matter any more?

Misbah and Waqar were poor on so many levels, I wouldn’t know where to begin.

The only good thing ramiz did was get rid of them. I don’t care whether he lied or not

What did Misbah achieve as a coach in T20I’s as coach, seeing you are upset with the recent results?

He left with an established team, especially in t20 cricket. We were scoring 180+ with the team he left. We won against India cause of the team Misbah left

What did he actually win though and targeting 180 is not good enough in 2025.

Pakistan started exceptionally well and should have had 200 were it not for some poor batting order decisions.
