Misbah-ul-Haq has the joint-highest number of losses for an Asian captain in Tests

Why do you hate Misbah so much? I see your anti -Misbah posts and threads all over this website. Why?

"Statistically and cricketing wise Pakistan's best ever captain" ladies and gentleman

:salute

The most by any Asian captain AND by any Pakistani captain?!? You dont say! :O

Without taking up too long with your obvious dislike for Misbah - you failed to mention that after Ranatunga and Dhoni he has also played more matches than any other Asian Test Captain - in fact when it comes to most matches played by a Test captain in the world he is 10th on the list

I know that captaincy isn't judged on win loss records alone, but even then, Misbah's W/L ratio falls short of Dhoni, Ganguly, Miandad, IK etc.

couple of things.

first of all how he mishandled young players and dump them without even giving them a fair chance. Umar Akmal being dumped after that unlucky dismissal or Haris Sohail a middle order batsman being made to bat at 7 on the WI tour and then dumping him or the cases of Umar Amin and Hammad Azam. He persisted with the ODI failures like Asad,YK,Azhar despite their struggles. In bowling he loved bowling the age factor, Umar Gul,Zulifqar Baber,Junaid then the likes of Anwar Ali making his team on regular basis. in one series he was playing some youngsters and in the next he was dumping them to bring back his favorite test players in the ODI format. There was no consistency in his selection and he never showed any faith in youngsters.

The second reason is his selfishness. If you go back to 2013 Zim series, before that series the selectors were not willing to send the senior squad as they saw India sent their B squad so they wanted to rest seniors and try young players but Misbah didn't like that idea. Not only he didn't want to rest but he also gave statements against selectors after winning first test about how youngsters would not have been able to win that test match and how seniors should be given more respect.

and the last his approach and mindset. Not only he had selfish approach towards his career(2013 Zim tour) but also had selfish approach towards his batting. The Mohali 2011 semi final the countless ODI matches to follow or the test batting had all one thing common in Misbah's batting. He always played for his scores first then anything. It was none of his concern what the situation demanded from him. The countless ODI matches we lost under his captaincy due to backward approach has been result of Pakistan standing at 9 in the rankings even BD have left us behind. When 300 totals were being scored on regular basis Misbah used to give excuses for his team making 230 totals. His strike rate during captaincy tenure was in the 60s. Not only that he has also instilled this defensive and selfish mindset into some of the youngsters we have. If you look at Ahmed Shehzad and even Asad his 2nd last innings he was playing on 10 after 60 deliveries. and there is no way you can criticize them because if your captain can take all the time in the world to get into the double digits why should you question a youngsters? and I'm afraid this mentality will take some time evade.

correct. And also look at the quality of the team given to him........ two mental midgets, one aggresive, one technique....

he wasn't Kohli himself. Hiding behind YK and Azhar who are king of UAE scoring heavily in the first innings and allowing Yasir and Ajmal rattling Aussies and English batsmen. You cannot take away Misbah's success as a captain from these players.

No surprise. The sooner we get rid of Misbah the better it would be for our cricket he's not only a liability with his defensive captaincy and slow batting he's instilled his defensive mindset in players like Asad as well absolutely pathetic.

Azhar is decent player every where, even steve waugh will not win more matches with this team

Tied on 19 losses with Pataudi and Ranatunga.

Much better record than Pataudi and Ranatunga though. His W/L ratio is 1.3, whereas for the other two it is 0.47 and 0.63.

Pataudi's record is really embarrassing. I assume it is not completely his fault, the rest of the team also is to blame. But I am glad that the days when people in India would swoon over royalty are gone, and now we have performance as the criteria.

I see it was Misbah's double ton to save us from Zimbabwe white washing national embarrassment or leveling against England national pride. how many centuries did YK hit against Australia in UAE?

Dhoni's W/L ratio is better than Misbah, even though he is derided as a poor test captain by most of the fans here.

This is such an unfortunate record.

Last 8 Tests have tarnished his record as Captain.

Very Sad.

The last 2 series havent helped but before NZ, Misbah's Pakistan were bossing it and had a much better W/L ratio. Thing is, Misbah should be remembered as a captain who led Pakistan to 14 test series unbeaten across 4 years (not in a row).

I really think he hsould have left the captaincy after the home windies series.

More remarkable if you keep in mind that Dhoni's India played 4 Test away tours quite regularly, and that really brought his W/L ratio down.

I don't like player who doesn't care at all about the national interest and just cares about his personal interest. Times and times Misbah has proved his selfishness, hence not my favorite.

Is there any other captain who had lost 6 tests in a row against 3 different countries, or its only Misbah. I,m sure he would be only one in Asia .

Hahahha you guys are unbelievable. If someone like Afridi or Younis had taken over as captain after the spot fixing scandal, Pakistan cricket would have been in the gutter. Misbah gave the team respectability and the haters are complete fools.

How can you say this.
Anyways on topic Misbah has one of the worst records outside Asia among Pakistan / Asian captains. Any series he won?

Just correcting the OP, which states that Misbah has overtaken Dhoni and is exclusively top of the list.

Not a very envious 'record', no doubt about that.

Question for you Abdullah719 - why does Ganguly's time span in the list above end at 2005? :13:

Wasn't he captain of the Test team until 2008?

That "respectability" phase passed over a long time ago - he should rightfully now be judged on results.

Unfortunately for him - he has always been a mediocre captain overseas barring the Lord's and Oval Test last year. Yes we beat NZ in 2010/11 but they were an extremely poor team back then.

Nope, he didn't captain the Test team after 2005. Dravid, Kumble then eventually Dhoni took over.
