also the pp'ers who chose option 1 should man up and justify why and not hide behind private poll.

wooow reading some above the man cannot cut a break...according to these pp'ers the man can do no right!

I think we need to correlate the third option...with the thread that announced Misbah is captain.

Theres no way even 10% of people supported that move. It was insane at the time!!

I never disliked Misbah, but had doubts in his ability to score runs in places like SA, Aus and Eng, which I still do, but it's not about that anymore.

He is a bit like Dhoni to this Pak team now, his captaincy and batting are equally important to this team now.

I proudly voted for 1 and justified why.

His half century was a proper old school brilliant test innings. It was vital Pak didn't fold which would have destroyed the great work of the bowlers in the first innings. Younis and Shafiq fell around Misbah who had to knuckle down and make sure Pak get some sort of lead and he did that.

Imo it was the best innings of the match.
It was a good test innings and nothing more. Just a fifty on a very good batting pitch and batting after the openers gave a very good platform.
Best innings of the match? No! Prior's first innings was the best one probably followed by Hafeez's.

Selection is always debatable but over his tenure Misbah has bought consistency to selection. Something rarely seen over the years in the Pak team.
Somestimes it's debatable but as I showed in another thread, since Misbah took over captaincy, you just have to be an old and defensive player to play in the team.
People do think our team is winning because of this defensive approach, but it's not true.
The only attacking cricketer we have, Saeed Ajmal, Hafeez and Gul were the top 3 performer for Pakistan in the Match.

Sure having a great spinner is help for any skipper. But Pakistan are a talented cricketing nation and all captains before him had some special player(s). It could be argued Misbah has had less special players than previous captains.
And most captains around the world win in New Zealnd when Shane Bond isn't playing, at least draw their series in West Indies since the last 10 years, won their matches against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Also, most asian team win agaisnt against England at home, and about every Pakistani captain win against Sri Lanka at home, especially this sri lankan team witch is loosing everything.

Pakistan's performances have been good, but nothing special apart from this last win versus England withch was BRILLIANT.

You said it all! Cluless batsman against half good bowlers abroad.

There are plenty of things to like about him too. The only reason Pak doing so well in test cricket is because of him and Waqar and the players involved in the Test side.

I blolded Dhoni in your post and described him.
Everyone can assume whatever he likes.
We are winning because of Waqar's tactics when he was coach and was a so great coach that we will win for the next 5 years... Or Misbah is the best captain ever, he is as inteligent as Einstein, it's the reason we are winning... We are winning because Ijaz Butt had an inspiration that Misbah was the man, so all thanks to Ijaz Butt, the best chairman ever in cricket.... and so on...

We are winning because players are performing well, we often played meodicore teams in favorable conditions.
Saeed Ajmal is the best spinner in the world, Abdur Rehman and other bowlers are also bowling well. Five out of the six batsmen are batting good enough to win the matches...

Stop praising Captains for team results...
You just have Dhoni's example... How he suddenly become the worst cpatain after beeing the best...

You want to praise the captain, talk about his masterstrokes as a captain...
Nothing special in Misbah's captaincy...

I voted for 1.
Too much hype over him on PP. He is an as bad batsman as you can get. My problem with him is over his poor batting in all forms of the game. More the format is long the worst he become.

Captaincy wise, I don't like his team selection.

The team was winning because we were playing poor opositions, and is winning because we have a good bowling line up with the best spinner in the world.

Poor team selection is a charge you can never lay on Misbah. He selects a pretty fair 11. The only debate is over Asad Shafiq but the rest have cemented their places. In the end everyone is selected on merit. Farhat and Malik haven't been playing.

And most captains around the world win in New Zealnd when Shane Bond isn't playing.

there is a captain name clarke who cannot and to top that in Australia

about every Pakistani captain win against Sri Lanka at home, especially this sri lankan team witch is loosing everything.

sri lanka won a test and two one days in south africa. pakistan never won a test there.
since when uae is our home ground. its as much home environment to us as sri lanka. it may be foreign to england, south africa, australia, newzwland but same to india, pakistan, sri lanka.

Also, most asian team win agaisnt against England at home.

Pakistan's performances have been good, but nothing special apart from this last win versus England withch was BRILLIANT.

oh if only i was a person who likes to say i told you so.

before england series, many of us were saying we are just bashing minnows. misbah will get exposed against top teams. only if he wins against england we will accept him as good leader. but we know like english team some of us will find reasons to prove there point. it seems results don't matter for us, opinion do. i wonder when england beat india, why nobody brings all these questions into argument but simply say england is good side.

i like to know what will be the criteria after which we will start approving misbah and pakistani team success.

The thread is about Misbah in general, not only in Test.
Farhat, Malik and Younis Khan are continously playing there. And as I already clearly indicated in another thread, he is not giving any chance to younger, new players in limited overs international cricket.
We played Zimbabwe and Bangladesh still he gave his chance to no new player, never rested himseld or Younis Khan in even ONE game. Instead, the only time he rested a player to play Asad Shafik, this player was Umar Akmal. The youngest and fittest player in the team.

In test cricket, for no reason, he is again playing Cheema in front of Junaid Khan.
Umar Akmal was dropped after 1 bad innings in Zimbabwe for an unlucky dismissal. And that after he was our most consistent batsman on the difficult batting tracks in West Indies.

What's the point awnsering someone who doesn't even watch cricket...
Maybe you were talking about IPL there?

how ipl come into equation i seriously i dont understand.

yes i made a mistake, pakistan won 2 tests in south africa. i was talking from my memory and am not very good in stats anyway.
but it didn't change essense of my posting. if sri lanka is a bad team how can they perform decently in south africa, tests 2-1, ODI 2-2.

and of course newzeland without shane bond goes in australia and win a test match ending series 1-1.

some how you seems to avoids these arguments.

I will stick my hands up too. I used to hate Captain Marvellous in the 2009 Aus tour. Thought he was worst than a leech as he never let go after his failures. But I take 90% of it back! Come on and win the series lad and all be forgotton!

I had nothing but animosity towards misbah since the semi-final (i know typical emotional pakistani fan lol)

but I have to give credit where its due. He's led the side very well in the recent series and especially the first test against the #1 team.

I hate Misbah as a player in ODIs. He seems to be a fine captain and a suitable player for Test but he needs to opt out from ODI for Pakistan's sake.

he joined the team when no one knew what would happen and if pak team would manage to survive after the spot fixing scandal, bt since then his taken the team to new highs that havn;t been seen for almsot a decade,

i hope for all the pain we have gone through with misbah GOD gives in return equal or more success and happiness with misbah

Yes he has been consistent and scores regularly. He has scored big aswell and bailed us out of trouble in limited overs and tests aswell. However sometimes he does play quite slow and wastes alot of balls. And he did not perform when it mattered i.e. the semi final.

But still I believe he still should be in the playing XI, as he is experienced and can offer his advise to the younger batsmen and also guide them. As he is the only proper batsman left in the team. Also he can hit big shots aswell, when the need arises.

We shouldnt judge or make decisions based on one match, as many are doing here. Instead we should look at the wider picture, and let him play untill he retires- which is likely to be in a year or so.
Still stand by my words. :)

He has proven to be a good choice for captain.

we dont need fickle supporters

If you cant see his benefit before the England series then why now?

I bet you`ll be the first to slag him off when we lose

Nothing has changed in his captaincy since day 1

are you joining the bandwagon now?

Because we play so little tests I would have bothisbaj and YK in the ODI side for as long ad they are fit...

There is a logic behind this.

Say Sorry to Misbah......

  for :misbah

For almost whitewashing England very first time .... the way he leaded ,his captaincy was superb , every player is united and feeling comfortable under his captaincy....

Now ....

I would like all of Misbah haters to say Sorry to Mba boy :misbah

& start praising :misbah :D

hahaha They won’t the kiddy haters brigade are like teenagers who can’t get over their crushes....they won't get over Mohali SF so soon.

Rightly so. Misbah's pathetic effort at Mohali must never be forgotten. He has a history of bottling in pressure situation where great legendary players rise to the occasion.

No need to say sorry for valid criticism. His batting strategies on a whole are flawed and will easily cost us in conditions unfavorable to us.

Agreed tuktuk has done well good on him,lot of things need improving.

we are on the verge of whitewashing the world number 1 side for the first time in our 60 years history and you still have the guts to cry and moan.:wahab

By cry babies like you! Feel real sorry that you cannot enjoy one of the greatest moments in Pakistan cricket history....

I feel sorry for a man who seems to be annoyed that his team is winning purely due to the captain

you have no idea about test batting have you

your comments will never be forgotten

How many times did the Pakistan greats of old whitewash England?

suggest you think again about your comments on this team

there is something really really wrong with us? why can't we rise above personal like/dislike and see whats benefitting the country?

we seems to be more annoyed with our winning team then english fans with there losing team

we were complaining before this series that misbah will be exposed against england. and yes he is exposed, we whitewashed world #1. he is exposed that he is really a good captain and have a very successfull effect on the team.

he was criticized that his tuk tuk mentality will not leave us enuough time to pull the advantage. but guess what we are winning matches with day to spare.

Exactly i would rate misbah as best captain pakistan ever had....:misbah

Savak is just jealous that Misbah has achieved more in the last year or so thab Afridi has done in his whole career. Greatest captain since Imran. If he carries on this way he will go down as our greatest TEST captain, period!

King Misbah :yk

This must be Pakistan's greatest victory in the context of:

How we played the 1st innings, scoring 99 and going on to beat the no.1 team in the world.

Historically having a fragile batting line-up

Depleted fast bowling attack (for obvious reasons)

And the ever-chaotic and never ending behind the scenes political skirmishes.

WELL DONE MISBAH and the BOYS, You have made Pakistan and all it's supporters around the World Proud.

no seriously guys. somehow i never thought about it, but now i really feel sorry about our players. its not just misbah, he just symbolizes that. we love over the top, over hyped superstars but we cannot appreciate low key personalities decent players who contribute in collective team effort.

we say gul is not for test cricket. and he played very important role in winning two test matches. He got 4 important wickets in the last inning of first test and again he got 4 wickets today when wicket is not that much helping our spinners.

we say rahman should not be in the team. He played such an important role in two test victories and both time under when team is under tremendous pressure. Once when englland is just to score 140 runs to win match with all the time in the world and he get them just for 72 runs. Then when we bowled for 99 in first inning and he bring us back in the match.

same story about azhar, asad and adnan.

:D:D

Is there any way we can have Misbah captain the team on the field but be substituted (super sub style) whenever the team is batting? That would be ideal, he is a decent fielder and he has led the team pretty well on the field.

But his batting strategies, tuk tuk must be wiped out from the face of the planet. He must not be allowed to do another 2007 T-20 WC final, Mohali ever again and nor must he be allowed to infect another member of the team with his phattu tuk tuk tuk tuk mentality.

 it was cause of Misbah we reach so close in winning the game against India in 2007....

You critisize Misbah for that? WHat about Afridi an the otehr 5 idiots who gave up there wickets.. We were below 100 and 5-6 wickets were gone, tahts when Misbah revived our innings..... If Misbah had not performed, Pakistan still wouldn't had got that close....

Pakistan losing from 6 runs is better hten Pak losing from 30+ runs...

And for the mohali match, it was the poor line up that cost us the match....

Listen to the press conf - to our question on run rates and hear him say this

When our best batsman, Younis Khan, appreciates Misbah's batting for holding an end and is in high praise of his captaincy, I would rather listen to him. When Sclyd Berry and Michael Vaughan have all praised Misbah's earlier innings (that 84) and captaincy (and went on to say how England should be playing spin), then I would rather listen to them. When Nasser Hussain can't help but praise Misbah's fielding and bowling changes as being spot-on, then I would rather listen to him than some Mohali mourners.

Those who want to mourn can mourn. :misbah

From the press conference today:
Very easy to speak from outside about run rates and strike rates, only we knew how difficult these conditions were

Criticism can be valid and should be discussed, but it is really annoying when only the negatives are brought to light and the positives are never appreciated :savak

I, for one, am going to celebrate this historic win and am thankful for Misbah as being the captain.

IF you are consistent with your views, then you must also want Azhar Ali to be dropped after his performance in this test match?

This quote :14:

It might look very easy on tv to some, but it's not that easy..... One who has played cricket, knows how difficult it is to even defend a spinning ball when fielders are standing near the striker.....

Swan and Panesar were spinnering the ball quite well

The question I asked was "Misbah before this series, there was criticism of your run rates - aap ub in logon ko kiya bolaingay?"

IF you are consistent with your views, then you must also want Azhar Ali to be dropped after his performance in this test match?

Azhar Ali is starting his career, unfortunately he has been infected by Misbah a bit too much. Needs to realize that after getting in one plays his shots and really puts the opposition on the mat and under pressure.

Calm head dosen't panic in losing situations, no chance any other captain would have won this series 3-0 pakistan were in losing positions in the 2nd and third test, misbah kept calm and had faith made the right decisions.

Misbah's phattu pan is not just restricted to those games although i hold him primarily responsible for the Mohali debacle and the pressure he put on the entire team. What about the first test against SA in UAE where he automatically decides to put the breaks on the scoring rate and have a real go at the target? What about the second test vs NZ where he and Shafiq dont go after an easily achievable target? This same phattu instructions were given to Taufeeq, Hafeez in the first test vs Sri Lnaka? Dont even get me started on the 84/4 of 57 overs in the last test against Sri Lanka where we didnt even bother to chase the target of 250.

This is a very dangerous mentality border lining on Cowardice, Misbah being captain is inspiring a whole generation of youngsters to follow his uninspiring unmanly approach to the game.

Misbah does't want to take such stupid risks, that could result in a loss...... It might look easy to you, as you are just watching the game from your tv/pc, but's its actaully not that easy......

A draw is better then a loss.....

Dont know, dont care. My view point on Misbah's batting style and batting strategies for the team as a whole will be difficult to change. I still fear he is going to bottle it for Pakistan in a future real pressure situation when the entire world will be watching him.

This is a very dangerous mentality border lining on Cowardice, Misbah being captain is inspiring a whole generation of youngsters to follow his uninspiring unmanly approach to the game.

the reason why he is inspiring a whole generation of youngsters to follow is not that he is captain but he is a winning captain. pakistanis are not used to this sequence of winning series after series. people who perform, inspire next generation like imran khan, javed miandad, wasim akram, waqar younus. if misbah is inspiring youngsters to be more sensible than flambouyant then i an misbah's corner. i love winning but not losing more. i have seen my best teams losing matches for no apparent reason and i am first time in my cricketing fan life feeling secure.

Lets be honest we all know you were hoping and praying the pakistan slipped and lost in this series just so that you could bore everyone with your Misbah is rubbish crusade. Sorry to dissapoint you and it didnt happen. Am sure at some point in future when we lose you can lay out the blame at misbah. Until then theres no point whining! Anyone would think we just lost 3-0 england the way your moaning.

Go support India if you want am sure you could find loads of faults in dhonis captaincy if your nit picking at misbah all the time.

It's this "attack at all costs" mentality that has made us famous for our unpredictability. There's nothing wrong with some stability and consistent series wins for a change, and thankfully Misbah's approach has brought us that.

As for his own batting, on most occasions it works. I just don't understand how you can hate a player so much when he failed in "a real pressure situation when the whole world was watching". He played badly in one of the biggest most high pressure games in Pakistan's history, a game in which many players had an off day. Give him a break.

I still haven't seen you give Misbah an ounce of credit for this series whitewash. That's unacceptable for someone that truly cares about Pakistan cricket.

We all have our favourites, that is normal and we all have players we are not keen on BUT surely when someone performs, you have to appreciate it and respect that

This attitude of maintaining your stance on players despite a wonderful performance is just pathetic and childish

Misbah was immense in this series and he deserves plenty of credit for it

Well the whole world was watching and we beat the Number 1 ranked side 3-0

Where have u deduced i was hoping and wishing for Pakistan to lose this series or any series. If Misbah is proving to be Pakistan's lucky talisman then so be it. Just dont want him to be given the bat in hand, ideally he should be substituted when the team is batting with a super sub if the rules allowed it.

To each their own, but Misbah has a history of bottling it under pressure and has never performed on the big stage in high pressure games. He is just not mentally tough enough.

So he should have been super-subbed in 1st test when his 80 runs pretty much gave us a match winning lead.

Please do give me a list of all the brilliant replacements you have to bring in then?

Define "big stage in high pressure games". As far as I can tell, your definition of high pressure games is restricted to World Cup games, and perhaps more specifically, ones against India.

Definately a high pressure game like a WC final, a Semi final against a team like India, a crunch situation against a powerful team like Australia, South Africa, England in fair conditions. These are the type of games where winning them means the most to us.

Even if we performed 1-0, 2-0, 1-1, 2-1 no one in the streets would burn effigies or throw stones at the players home. Misbah also plays primarily for himself, when others were captain he mostly performed in dead rubber games and played poorly in the games which mattered.

You aint alone, am with you on everything you said about Misbah's approach in batting, good captain yes! But he does not know how to approach a situation or how to bat on the required situation!

I have said it time and time again and yes many will disagree and start with go watch T20, go watch the Afridi's and the Umar Akmals etc...

What they dnt understand is in future series against the likes of Saffers, Australia and away to England, this measley 2rpo will be the main damage factor then I wanna see what these ppl say, thats all am waiting for coz not all the time will we restrict stronger teams at under 200, there will be a time where we will be faced with a 1st innings deficit of 400,500, 600, I wanna see what Misbah and the team do then!!!

I always look at the bigger picture!

Well the rules don't allow so your posts are just ridiculous

Seriously man, get a grip
