Misbah-ul-Haq, Nadeem Khan & Rashid Latif to finalise 6 domestic cricket teams for 2019/20 season

Respected independent experts to finalise cricket association sides for 2019-20 season

• Misbah-ul-Haq, Nadeem Khan and Rashid Latif to meet in Lahore on Thursday

• “Pakistan boasts some very exciting and talented cricketers and we will try our best to provide a good and equal balance across all sides so that every match counts and each performance is valued,” says Rashid Latif

• “Bringing in an expert independent three-member panel to critique and sense check the provisional player lists will support our ongoing pledge to remove any claims of nepotism or favoritism through a merit based and transparent process,” says Wasim Khan

Lahore, 20 August 2019:

The Pakistan Cricket Board, as part of an agreed process, has constituted a three-member independent panel of experts to review and finalise the six cricket association sides that will participate in the upcoming domestic cricket season 2019-20.

The three-member panel comprises Misbah-ul-Haq, Nadeem Khan and Rashid Latif, which will meet at the Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday after which the six teams will be announced next week with details to follow in due course.

The provisional sides were prepared by Tauseef Ahmed, Wajahatullah Wasti, Wasim Haider (all members of former selection committee), Saleem Jaffer, Arshad Khan, Rao Iftikhar, Taufeeq Umer (all members of junior selection committee) and Akram Raza, Azam Khan, Ijaz Ahmed Junior and Raj Hans, who had taken into consideration the performances of the players in the previous season and their future prospects.

The independent panel will finalise 32 players for each association – who will be offered domestic contracts by the PCB for a 12-month period – and recommend names of the captains for the first and second XIs.

PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan said: “The PCB has constituted a panel of highly respected cricketers to assess and review the balance, composition and strength of the six sides to ensure there remain no gaps. The knowledge, expertise and experience of these three cricketers with regards to domestic cricket is second to none as they are actively involved in the process in one way or another.

“With the void of a current national selection committee, the PCB drew on the knowledge of former national selectors, the current junior selection committee and coaches to select the provisional squads.

“To ensure we are ready for the start of the new season in September, this initial process was required to ensure we keep moving forward positively in the interim period until the cricket associations are fully operational and functional.

“Bringing in an expert independent three-member panel to critique and sense check the provisional player lists will support our ongoing pledge to remove any claims of nepotism or favoritism through a merit based and transparent process.

“I want to thank all members for their hard work in putting together provisional squads and confident that the critical and objective review by the independent experts will further enhance and strengthen the integrity and credibility of the teams, the PCB and its domestic events.”

Rashid Latif said: “I am thankful to the PCB for considering me for this important assignment and look forward to making a meaningful contribution in consultation with my other respected colleagues.

“We all need to see a highly competitive and strong domestic cricket structure, in which there should be cut-throat competition. This is the only way we will be able to narrow the gap with international cricket and, in this relation, selection of players and team combinations is a critical element to that objective.

“Pakistan boasts some very exciting and talented cricketers and we will try our best to provide a good and equal balance across all sides so that every match counts and each performance is valued.”

The cricket associations will participate in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy first-class competition, National T20 Cup and Pakistan Cup One-Day Tournament. The 2019-20 season will run from 12 September to 24 April.

That's bad.

Why the previous selectors have chosen the players? It should've been left for this committee.

Wow Nadeem Khan?

Strange Trio.

Whenever I have heard Nadeem Khan he made sensible comments more often than not. He was also associated with Multan Sultans, so overall I would say decent names.

Great Panel. Especially Misbah and Rashid Latif

Both are great in identifying talent.

Also Rashid Latifs inclusion will give safety to Sindh players aswell, because there is biasness towards lahori players.

One thing really sucks, Waleed Ahmed's name will create controversy here.

Even though he has bowled well, but people will whine of nepotism as he is the son of Tauseef Ahmed.

But what people dont know is that he has worked hard, move from UAE to Pakistan, played 2-3 years of district to get into first class.

Btw, if sheikh shakils any son or moin khans son name is on the list, the blame will go on this trio. Those players are not good enough to be considered

Misbah would make an awesome chief selector not the head coach. He definitely has an eye for spotting good international quality cricketers.PCB should appoint the right person for the right job and i feel misbah is the right person for the job of chief selector.I request the pcb to appoint misbah as the cheif selector NOT THE HEAD COACH!!

High praise from Wasim for Misbah and Rashid Latif

Rashid Bhai- Chief selector
Misbah- Head coach

Make it happen PCB, best thing Wasim Khan will do since being part of PCB

good progress, and using right mix of former selectors, junior selectors, coaches, etc., to identify and pick best players.

only concern is why the long delay in announcing real selectors. its not like for coach we have to wait for all the international applicants and choose from them. selectors would definitely be domestic ex players, so its simply a matter of picking 3 and moving on. It could even be Misbah, Nadeem, Rashid + 1 more (maybe an ex fast bowler, Akhtar, M. Akram, etc). But they keep coming up with adhoc names for such foundational level decisions 6 weeks after World Cup ended.

That's good work from PCB. Seems like we are heading towards the right direction.

Ah golden boy Rashid latif.!!Lets see what supreme talent rashid bhai unearth from sindh province .Hopefully he doesn't go for ttf which he loves very much

Nadeem khan is also ttf lover so don't see much hope for youngster

Good time to be a former Pakistan player who was not involved in the previous PCB regimes.

Love the fact Rashid Latif is chosen,
I really hope they include under 19 up and coming stars are included in the first class teams

I wonder if there will be a big ceremony introducing the new cricket structure in Pakistan cricket.

Because this isn’t a committee rather a panel. This panel will review and finalize the players selected by others. Basically this panel adds another layer of checks and balances on who gets to play at top domestic level.

Good move.

Big mistake by PCB to give Misbaf the authority. All oldies from Multan and Faisalabad should be happy, they will make bulk of Punjab team, south or north. Won;t be me much representation from Lahore, Sialkot and R'Pindi. No young talent will emerge.

I'm loving the burn! ;)

Each and every post of yours is about the rant and rhetoric on Misbah, which is entirely false. Poor quality posts. It's going to get a lot more painful for you.

:salute

I don't want Misbah or Rashid close to any authority set up. They lack in technical nuance when it comes to cricket so they might see Abdul Razzak fit to play again as he has a lot of experience. Abdul Razzak is an extreme case (but quite possible with the above two) but Malik, Hafeez, Maindad's bhanja, Salman, Sami, etc will become part of the regional teams taking up places of the youngsters. You should listen to their analysis of the game to know they do not have much of cricket "intelligence".

Seems that this is now on hold due to issues with constitution and court order?
