I would trust misbah to save a test match rather than dhoni. Dhoni is good for LOI's only.

Where they excel :
- Misbah can save you a Test in the subcontinent.
- Dhoni can win you a Test in the subcontinent.

Where they fail :
- Misbah can't save you a match overseas.
- Dhoni can't save you a match overseas.

Just because Misbah has a brilliant front-foot tuk tuk about him does not make him The Wall.

Comparing Gilly and Dhoni make sense or Dhoni and Prior or Dhoni and Sarfraz (sample size too low, we need to revist in couple of years)...

Misbah can be compared to Clark or Mehala or AB etc... In pretty much all cases Misbah looses, but at home he is not too shabby!!

Initially I thought we are comparing Captaincy... In that case both have not done well overseas, their tactics are tailored made for low and slow conditions, I am afraid they both don't understand bounce and green... I am hoping in case of Pakistan things may change if both Amir and Asif are back, then we can build a team, well like SA!!

In ODIs, Dhoni is monster, their success in LOIs has lot to do with Dhoni...He is best LOI captain in this era, Indian fans will realize when he departs.

When I say away, I mean conditions that really are foreign, i.e. SA, England, NZ and Aus. Misbah averages something like 28 in these countries.

Misbah was always better batsman, btw this comparison is not right , Dhoni was wicketkeeper batsman so a wkb average is around 40, he is same as middle order batsman of average.

Dhoni was a very poor test captain and responsible for India's worst test series results in the last 20 years but he is still an India great in the test format. Would be a starter in India's all time first xi.

Of course, in ODIs, he is probably a starter in the all time world xi.

Problem with Dhoni was never his keeping . He came in the Captian-Wk-Batsman package. We had to take all 3 !. His good - passable form in the latter 2 disciplines forced us to keep suffering his rather poor efforts in the first for a very long time.

The difference between the 2 is, while Misbah is a selfless, honest cricketer who places his country above him, Dhoni is an insecured, selfish player always conniving to maintain his position with the board.
