Cricket has changed drastically over the last decade after the emergence of T20 format and players focus to play various leagues all around the world. T20 format has certainly provided an entertainment to an audience that they yearned for quite some time. Nevertheless it has certainly effected the quality and competitiveness of the game in general.

I believe that the skill level has also gone down over the last few years. The general consensus in all the leading analysts of the game is still the same that a players ability, class and mental toughness is still better tested at the test arena rather than T20 ( a short version of the game) which no doubt gives quick results and more jaw dropping moments from an audience stand point. Batsman OR the bowler has to prove his mettle in test cricket or the 50 overs version to leave his mark.

However no one can deny the acceptance of T20 format all across the globe but still the real recognition for a player or any category comes either through 50 over version OR the test cricket. Leagues all over the world have gathered an attention of players through the various perks and privileges they provide to the current and the ex-cricketers and every player now is more keen to invest his energy in T20 rather than test cricket.

Being a fan of cricket from my childhood and belong to the country where cricket is the sole source of entertainment, i would prefer to see the balance in all formats so that it will not disturb the competitiveness of this game. ICC has a crucial role to play in this context if it is really interested to save all the formats particularly test cricket that has certainly produced champion cricketers since the arrival of this game on the world horizon.

Welcome to PP. Good post which raises some really important points.

Definitely ICC will have to play a decisive role to maintain a proper balance. I have shared my views previously on the forum as well that without Test and 4day format, cricket can die a slow death as still this is the format which develops the basics of any cricketer for the other formats as well. The consistent lengths of bowlers (Irrespective of the kind of delivery they want to ball), defense of the batsmen, timing and stroke play etc all gets developed through longer formats and those learned skills can be modified and build upon depending upon the formats.

I also think cricket boards need to manage young players well so that their game is developed in a well balanced manner rather than giving them too much exposure of the shorter format.

One way could be to restrict T20 cricket to only domestic leagues. Scrap T20I entirely. This way you would need to excel at at least one of the other two formats to be able to represent your nation.

Also, some of the smaller boards need to organize more tests between themselves. The responsibility of keeping test cricket alive shouldn’t be only on the big3’s shoulders.

I think they should disband Test cricket entirely and leave that format for domestic cricket. International cricket should not be a training ground for cricketers.

Everybody is saying modern day game is missing in Pakistan's cricket But how?

Some pundits reveals it only came through playing more t20 franchise cricket some body says it came through playing first class cricket. My point is if a player who is under twenty and you shift his focus on charisma and make him star before proving himself how can he understands the values of basic cricket. In our part of world if someone performs in one or two games then according to us he is our new wasim Akram or Abdul razzaq or Sachin Tendulkar or virat Kohli but where he has proved it and then when he fails we people are ready with our cheap analysis that he is just an average player and a our system is so much average that I think they are not even mature to develop talent and they even don't know how can they develop players how much player should play first class cricket.Where he performed in which circumstances he score runs or took wicket what was the demand of the game at that time what was the conditions. Were the conditions suitting him or not. These are the things in which we are struggling and not managing.

Yes I think u are absolutely right and most important thing as u mention is the quality of cricket goes down and yes we have not seen big booming hundreds coming in test matches and also bowlers are taking big fifers because I think there focus shifts towards aggression and they forgot other things like temperament technique and plus skills.I have watched cricket of 2000s where we saw big hundreds from that era's superstars and their bowling performances
