Amir and Haris not available for England tour

Lahore, 11 June 2020:

Fast bowler Mohammad Amir and middle-order batsman Haris Sohail have pulled out of the upcoming England tour due to personal reasons, the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed today.

Amir has withdrawn so that he can be at the birth of his second child in August, while Haris will miss the tour because of family reasons.

Pakistan will send 28 players and 14 player support personnel for three Tests and three T20Is to be played in August and September. The squad as well as pre-series and series schedule will be announced in due course.

Haris could potentially lose his spot forever.

Now its over to Fawad Alam lol.

Going to be hilarious seeing him vs Jimmy in English conditions....

Haha, would be extremely funny if here were to fail again.

Haha would be great if he proves people wrong - we certainly wish him all the best.

What do you mean, fail again?

When did he fail last with 40+ average?

Haris also pulled out of last tour of SA .... it seems a bit of habit for him.... i think he should be booted out of the team permanently ....

I wonder if Haris' spot will be taken by a seam bowling all-rounder, Fahim Ashraf and Aamer Yamin are really the only 2 contenders at this point..I would still play Fawad, he can turn his arm over if needed. Abbas-Shaheen-Naseem-Yasir, the four pronged attack. Azhar should also be prepared to bowl a few overs to rest the quicks

Fawad has to be play or the tail will be to long I'd only select yamin or ashraf if pakistan picks shadab in the team

Amir should never have been selected anyways. Haris Sohail not coming means Fawad will finally get a game.

Hopefully pakistan bowlers put up good show in t20s so that amir and wahab have no chance to make comeback and hopefully fawad performs

Seems to be a pattern for him with SEN countries where ball moves

Haris could have been at the same level as Babar but he simply doesn’t have the desire.

In spite of missing nearly 4 years due to a mismanaged injury, he has shown no urgency and passion to be the best player that he can be.

Poor fitness, lazy demeanor. If he is in good enough he looks really good but if he isn’t scoring runs he doesn’t seem to bothered about it.

Find it funny that Haris thinks he can now pick and choose his tours. He will play at home against Bangladesh but skips the tough ones abraod.

Correct for that reason he shouldn't be in the squad if fitness is that important

He shouldn't in the squad if that happens it's not like hes garrtanted to get u runs everytime he plays

I agree. I think he is taking advantage of the fact that he is a favorite for Misbah & Co and Pakistan's lack of decent batsmen.

I dont think pakistan has a lack of batesman they do have Bateman but they dont get much chances for example salahuddin played 1 match then was dropped.hopefully the give younis khan extended contract and he has a say

Amir shows no concerns about losing his place in the team. I think he could care less about playing for Pakistan in the long term and is more than happy to get UK citizenship and be a T20 mercenary

We have to remember that PCB made a right hash of Haris knee injury which set the poor guy back for a sustained period of time. Also given a late introduction due to Misbah cronyism. In this regard, I'm prepared to give a bit more leeway to the fella.

I have to agree Amir has become nothing but a mercenary. Time he was booted permanently.

How did they make right hash plz explain

And yes he needs to be booted out akif javed should be brought in for like to like replacement

That's why you never give players a second chance cuz they will throw it in your face

For Amir international cricket has lost its charm for him
He seems to have lost his passion for the game

Time to invest is someone else like Saud Shakeel in test cricket, I wouldn’t drop Haris from ODIs.

dont get your hopes up.fawad alam's going to get dropped for no reason and iftikhar ahmed is going to take his spot. you heard this from me.

When Amir finally retires and his memoir comes out "when I felt like playing", do remind me not to waste my hard earned £2.99 on it.

Haaris is fast becoming one of the most frustrating Pak players for me. Crazy talented but equally, if not more, lazy and lacking passion!

Amir is a lost cause anyway.

He should not play in tests only odis and t20s he not fit enough for big tours

Selection of Fawad in England will be a disaster. Karachites should support Saud Shakeel instead.

So he went for operation and it wasnt successful and pcb is to be blamed ?

PCB botched the whole process, then went to England to have the remedial work to correct it.

Agreed. Other than fitness, I think he hasn't found his game in tests yet. Looks much more comfortable and decisive in limited overs

Doesnt have the technique to play test matches cant play short bowling or swing bowling but good enough for odis as none of that and can play his shots

With Haris being unavailable, though it might be a bit early but I think Haider Ali can be under test consideration as well (Not sure if he will debut or not) and should definitely be in the overall squad. He is the best young batting talent we have had in a while and he can learn more by being with Babar and others in the management then at home.

Amir was only gonna play 3 T20s either ways, we have enough bench strength in that with Shaheen, Wahab, Hasnian, Haris Rauf and Naseem as well if we necessary though I would want him to play tests, important ODIs and World T20 as of now.

Give chances to Haider Ali, Umar Amin and Usman Salahuddin instead. Wouldnt mind Imam ul haq coming in at no.3. which could be a new found position for him. He has good game for test cricket but scores runs in ODIs.

How many games did he play after that bro

I think he was involved in most of Pakistan's games barring the odd tour.

Shame how his career has gone though, was one of the most gifted batsmen Pakistan has produced in the last decade.

Haider ali is going to be in the overall squad bexouse they got to take both squads together. So he will play in the intra matches but I dont think he will starting xi unless injuries happen.

Wahab was not going to be included but maybe included in t20s squad due to amir not being available.

Fair enough then.i agree he could have been babar level if he worked on fitness.

I agree with top 3 but dont agree with imaam he cant play short bowling and doesnt play swing well unless he can come in at 5 or 6

Come to think of it, even just going back three years, a fit Haris, an unbanned Sharjeel along with Babar would have changed the whole complexion of the Pakistan batting lineup.

It's TRUE but unfortunately in Pakistan this is always going to happen here and thier Pakistan doesnt pay good money compared to other teams

Some tweets from journos indicate that Sohail Tanvir or Wahab might be part of the 28 players that are going to England. Didn't know this but Tannu has been leading wicket taker in Nat T20 last year and Wahab's been decent in T20s overall.

Don't think any of them is really needed and would personally prefer a youngster in place of them in the playing XI, but i guess there's no harm in taking them along as both have vast experience in T20 circuit.

I rather have wahab than tanvir but I rather have none get in akif javed!

Mohammad Amir's decision not to tour England is understandable - his wife is expecting so she can't travel to UK, if he goes to UK after the birth & he has a 2 week quarantine period then the series will be over. Haris Soahil's actual reason for not travelling to the UK is in the separate thread about him.

Backing Fawad 100% of the way. Just needs to play patient and if he gets a 50 i'll be happy enough with that as a fan. Some of you guys can be so callous wishing he'd fail not fair to come back to a team and that to against England, had it been against easy teams like SL and Bang he would've mopped the floor with them. Fawad's time to keep his head down and score some big runs.

Their lives, their health, their family, their decision. It's only cricket. Get over yourselves.

Andrew Flintoff has skipped the birth of his child while on duty. My Dad and my Chacha skipped the birth of their kids because they were busy travelling on a very important work and business trip and the spouses lovingly accepted it.

Just because you are unable to attend the birth of your child should not be construed that you love them any less. Some Husbands are not very hands on with their kids and their spouses allow them full liberty to focus on their work, social life while they hold fort at home.

Knowing Amir's past history, could be just a convenient excuse.

Amir gave his reasons to PCB in detail.

They chose not to disclose them, despite Amir asking them to provide the facts in the press release.

There's no right or wrong way to approach a child's birth.

If it's important to the father, they should take the time off like Amir has. Lots of athletes leave in the middle of a tour for the same reason.

It's a choice that should be left up to the sportsman and respected either way, in my opinion.

Hello,

How's this for an idea.

We are in the middle of a pandemic. His wife will probs be having her baby in a hospital. She will also probs have her immune system slightly down after giving birth. The easiest way for someone to get covid 19 is from a hospital. Y'know, because that's the one place where many many other confirmed covid 19 patients can be found.

In such a situation, it's the responsible thing for a husband to do, be there to support his wife.

But nah, it's Amir, so he's fair game

Granted, he may not have the 'manliness' of your relatives to go about their jobs during their child's birth. But I personally think that it's pretty cool for Amir to support his wife during what will be a really challenging time for her.

It should be respected and how open doors for him to be permanently out of the squad

Nope, still the most consistent senior limited overs quick that we have.

Just because people's feeling ate hurt that he, quite reasonably has asked to support his wife through delivery in a pandemic, doesn't lessen his worth.

He should be commended for taking this decision.

How many wickets did he get against austrlia bdw?

I really think that Haris will be a real miss, especially in the Test side. If you could somehow get Haris, Asad Shafiq and Shan to bowl 25 overs a day, you could go with 4 quicks. Haris really can keep a lid on with his left Armers.

Don't know if Fawad bowls much in Domestic.

Also, people suggested that Imam could play at No.3. But that would mean Babar coming down at 5, which is not the best use of your best batsman.

I actually think we'll see Shadab at 7 and (I absolutely don't want this) Faheem at 8. I'd rather they play Ehsan Adil at 8.
