Just read that amir has been signed by Essex. Good opportunity for Amir. Hope few batsmen get county contact too like babar azam.

Amazing.

From a pariah in England to someone who will be featuring there a few times in 2017.

Kaneria the last Pakistani to play there....
 
Good to see that he'll also be playing 4-day games. Wish some of our batsmen would get opportunities there too.

Cook, who has long been outspoken against spot-fixers and the length of their bans, feels the 24-year-old will have to deal with the crowd voicing their opinions when play gets under way on 14 July.

“I’m sure there will be a reaction and that is right,” said Cook. “That is part and parcel, that when you do something like that there are more consequences than just the punishment. That is something for him to cope with, whatever comes his way.
 
Playing 4 day cricket should benefit him. Very happy for him, will keep up to date with Essex County championship games.

Although he'll play alongside Cook occasionsally, it will be under the captaincy of Bopara and Ten Doeschate.
 
Mohammad Amir: Pakistan fast bowler to join Essex for second half of 2017 season

Essex have signed Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir as an overseas player for part of the 2017 season.

Amir, 24, has played 20 Tests for Pakistan, including four against England this summer, having returned from a spot-fixing ban in 2015.

The left-armer will join Essex following international commitments and will be available for all formats.

Amir was banned from cricket for five years after being convicted of spot-fixing in a Lord's Test in 2010.

He was one of three Pakistan players jailed in November 2011 for his part in a conspiracy to bowl deliberate no-balls against England. He served three months in prison.

Amir's suspension originally covered all forms of the game, but in January last year he was cleared to play domestic cricket in Pakistan.

He has since played for Karachi Kings and Chittagong Vikings in Pakistan and Bangladesh respectively.

He returned to international cricket in January this year in a Twenty20 match against New Zealand in Auckland, when he was booed by fans.

"We are thrilled that Mohammad has decided to join us for half of the 2017 campaign. He showed a real desire to be a part of the club," said head coach Chris Silverwood.

"He is still only young but has proved himself at international level already, so it is a real coup to get this signing completed."

Essex will play in Division One of the County Championship in 2017, having won the Division Two title this summer.

37 wickets in 24 one-day internationals, average 25.35, best bowling 4-28
34 wickets in 31 T20 internationals, average 23.79, best bowling 3-18

Excellent development.
 
Great move for him - he is young and won't be overworked in England, good experience and good for his fitness/rhythm/confidence.
 
It's the best that can happen to him. County cricket has lost lots of it's quality & competitiveness since the quota of foreign players were reduced, but still the training facilities are great, coaching staffs are best professionals & the wickets/condition are the most diverse for a developing fast bowling allrounder.

He should put a target for himself to improve his batting. Ideally, he should target to bat at 8 for PAK team. Also, like Imran & Akram; he should skip PAK domestics - 1/2 occasional match is fine, but should waste energy playing cricket on those substandard wickets & poor competition.
 
So for how long will Pak be without international Cricket after the Australia/New Zealand tours? I realise that there is a Champions Trophy next year.
 
Isn't that Cook's team? He will play under a world class captain then.

Happy for him, and should be very grateful to ECB for extending their arm out and giving him another chance.

There is PSL in Feb and then WI tour in Mar-Apr. Only May off before CT.
 
Really good for him, hope to see Azhar and Shafiq get contracts too. Babar will probably get one later, young talent with many years to go.
 
Great news!!! It will be a very good experience for him. Wish him all the best.
 
He's obviously got some catching up to do regarding making money.

More importantly though is that he stays fit and improves as a bowler. Wahab was at Essex and he had a horrendous stint there.

Considering both Azhar and Shafiq have kids, I doubt they would want to spend their spare time away from the kids.
 
Good move and hopefully he can regain his ability to swing the ball again while playing county cricket.
 
He should take rest when Pak team is not playing to avoid any injury.
There is load of international cricket going on these days plus T20 leagues so our bowlers should rest their bodies whenever they can. Hopefully PCB ll step in.
 
Essex chief executive Derek Bowden says Mohammad Amir must be allowed to get on with his career, with the Pakistan bowler set to join the club in 2017.

The 24-year-old was one of three Pakistan players jailed in November 2011 for conspiring to bowl deliberate no-balls against England in 2010.

He was banned for five years, but returned in January last year.

"He made a mistake and he paid a price for that mistake and as far as we're concerned that's over," Bowden said.

"It is as straightforward as that, there've been one or two other cases with players that have had a history and we've taken the same view.

"It was a relatively straightforward, not an easy choice and one has to think about it, but he paid a price and therefore he should be free to go on and further his career and enjoy his life."

When he arrives next June, Amir will bolster a bowling line-up that has seen Graham Napier and David Masters retire after helping Essex win the County Championship Division Two title this year.

"He's going to bring pace, he's going to bring experience and I hope he brings some ambition," Bowden added.

"Our ambition is to do well in Division One, to stay in Division One, and to do well in white-ball cricket.

"He's going to have a big impact in the second half of the season in four-day, and for the entire Twenty20 competition."

List A is already over but they've already got Ryan McLaren for the entire season so only in the unlikely case he breaks down and they ask Junaid if he wants to extend his contract to cover for him.

I expect them to manage his workload. Furthermore I am very keen on him using High Performance Centre facilities and get himself analysed. Hope they give him optimum rest. Worcestershire (if I am not wrong) absolutely squeezed all the juice from Ajmal and next series he was so so tired that his shoulders & back was dead (energy wise) and than those 40 degrees straightening.


So if Amir is Supposed to be playing 6 four day matches than I want him to be rested for 1 or 2 Fc matches if the rest between matches is less than 3-4 days.


See Risk of Injury is always there with Fast Medium, Fast & Express pacers but at the end of the day County Cricket developers pacers massively. Look at Woakes development. At start he was ok pacer now He is excellent Test pacer and his career turned around at Age 26-27. So Amir needs to make ful use of this oppurtunity.

He is a smart cookie. He hardly ever gives his 100% while playing jamODIs for Pakistan and only bends his back when the stage is as big as a final. Expect him to trundle gently in county and not put any pressure on his back at all :yk

The set up here is quiet professional as well but am still concerned given his recent back spasam. They will sporadically use him for key fixtures across all formats though which is what tends to be the norm with overseas signings. Hopefully he will be ok

That's a good point :)) I doubt he will go at full throttle in each game and he tends to pace himself quiet well, he won't need to bend his back as much hopefully although there has been an initiative to produce wickets which favour spinners in recent times
 
^^But he will still get a lot more assistance in England compared to the UAE, Amir should just focus on skill and technique over pace

He'll be alright inshaAllah. People are getting worried over small niggles that Amir has had in the past few months. That's inevitable as a fast bowler. Amir's proven his durability with amount of workload he's been given the past two years.

Heck, he seems to have magical healing powers. Coming back from that knee injury in Australia and shoulder/back injury like nothing had happened.

That's a good point, in fact his ban may have been a blessing in disguise to because structurally he is not as fragile now and as you say tends to heal fast but we should still take special precaution. I'd manage his work load similar to what CSA do with Steyn, but we can be a bit more flexible since Pakistan don't play as many Tests anyway

Are English domestic pitches more conducive to pacers than international cricket pitches these days?

Generally they are but not by a lot in recent times plus home teams need to think twice about the sought of wicket they are going to prepare with the toss being scrapped and visiting teams being given the opportunity to bowl first; it is an initiative to encourage more sporting wickets and bring spin into the equation later on
 
Azhar is a champion test batsmen,a bit surprised no county has snaffled him

Want his Form to be kept tip top.

It's too early for Babar however he can go try find a club team and the ball will still swing,Can have time in England and enjoy himself.

Amir will be in the same team as Cook,So it will be interesting to see how they get along

Hassan Ali and Junaid are almost on every counties wish list,Yasir is playing for Kent.

As far as Shafiq is concerned,Seems more of a tailender then a batsmen, no county would pick a padestrian batsmen.

But I hope most players go and play league cricket,just too have a breather and get better at some weaknesses

Say Now Yasir is with Kent he can bat at No 6,which makes him a better batsmen.
 
The County Championship will be staging day-night matches for the first time ever.

Essex will play Middlesex in just less than 2 hours.
 
Even if babar doesn't get a county he should come and play club cricket here for a while.

4 months off is too long!
 
Amir's team will be bowling first, I hope he picks up a five wicket haul in this innings.

Amir dismissed Nick Gubbins who is a highly rated batsman.
