Pakistan are wary about Mohammad Amir’s fitness issues after the left-arm pacer went off injured in the only Test against Ireland in Dublin.

The selection committee is not keen to risk the fast-bowler in case he is not fully fit and is consequently pondering over options to replace him if required.

According to Express.pk, Wahab Riaz, Waqas Maqsood and Mir Hamza are amongst the top contenders to replace Mohammad Amir.

Riaz, who recently underwent a nose surgery, has resumed training at the National Academy as he looks to regain full form and fitness.

The left-arm pacer also has a contract with Derbyshire County for the upcoming T20 Blast, where he will play the first ten matches of the season.

Maqsood and Hamza, who both have accumulated over 200 wickets in first-class cricket, are also in the reckoning for a place in the side.

Maqsood was also the highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded Pakistan Cup, where he bagged 14 wickets representing Federal Areas.

The two-Test series between Pakistan and England is scheduled to begin on the May 24.

Rest Amir for tomorrow. Thats more than enough time to recuperate from whatever niggle he had in the game. Neither of the three mentioned can replace Amir, although Wahab for Rahat would be a perfect swap.

Amir took part in the practice sessions today.

1) Rahat needs swing lessons even though he is supposed to be a natural swing bowler.

2) Amir is clearly just jogging in.

3) Rahat, Amir and Hassan are sharing one net. Meaning one batsman is facing all 3 in the nets and getting top quality practice. Meanwhile, the other batsman in the other net is facing dibbly dobblers from average Joe who only showed up because of the free samosas.

Does Azhar Mahmood still have to school Rahat on how to bring down his wrist??? :(

Why isn’t Usman Khan being considered? He may be the swing bowler in Pakistan

Surely Shaheen isn't a bad shout.... Will be good to test him out against England and hopefully have him ready for South Africa and CWC19

If it had been upto me, i would have called back Rahat and would have sent both Wahab and Mir Hamza.

I want Mir Hamza in the team but I want him in place of Rahat Ali and not Amir.
Can Rahat take the injury out from Amir and get it into himself? Then he will be injured and will be replaced.

Hopefully he will be fit but as a cover i would call wahab riaz. No need to call that overhyped trundler mir hamza. He is very very average.

Waqas Maqsood
Impressive in Pakistan cup.
Looked around 135Kmh and was able to swing the ball both ways.

Can't see Mir Hamza with his 125 Swing doing much damage or Wahab With his line

Pure stupidity. They enforced the follow on so our bowlers couldn't rest, and pushed Amir to keep bowling despite signs he was injured/hurting as they were scared they would lose. All which would have been avoided if we'd have done the obvious thing and not followed on.

Big loss if he's out. Even when he doesn't take wickets up front he is usually very hard to score of.

Wahab in form is the best option but I would prefer someone who can keep it tight against England who have some aggressive batsmen who will make mistakes when they aren't scoring.

Sohail khan junaid khan, throw a massive spanner and call
Sadaf hussian

Don't force him to play if he isn't fit. Mir Hamza would be a good replacement in English conditions.

Would be such a shame if he misses out due to injury - as a neutral was really looking forward to Amir vs England.

Wahab usually doesn't do well in the UK. Only on slow and flat surfaces like the Oval he has done well.

In Eng you need to pitch the ball up in order to get any swing to get wickets which isn't Wahab's strong point. But you might be able to fit Wahab in a 5 man bowling attack as there will be cover.

I hope the news is false. If it is true.

For the 2 Tests, Our fast bowling attack should be:

-Mohammed Abbas
-Hasan Ali
-Junaid Khan/Mohammed Asif/Shaheen Shah Afridi
-Faheem Ashraf

anything but rahat. Maybe Amir can bowl spin and it will be better than Rahat.

As we saw in the Leics game, a Pakistan bowling attack without Amir is pretty toothless.

They won't call up Sadaf neither Asif ... Mir Hamza should be called since he was in the squad against SL but got dropped for the legendary Rahat!

I know Shaheen is quite raw and young but I would have thought of selecting him for the series. He can't be worse than the three left armers viz Rahat, Junaid, Wahab. Unfortunately we are no more blessed with quality fast bowlers as we were

Its a tragedy that we have to play the Amir card when clearly Abbas has taken more wickets than him in this game, and the previous ones

I think Aamir bowled better than Abbas in the Ireland game. Despite not being fully fit he bowled his heart out. Dropped catches and defensive captaincy obviously did not help the wicket column

Yes, only in the 2nd innings of the match. For the first innings, and the whole of last year Abbas has been our best bowler hands down. In all conditions (Test Matches)

He is the definition of toothless himself.

Why do you have clear cut incentives for certain players?

Isn’t he a part of the squad and representative of Pakistan on a global stage?

It’s not tragedy rather it’s good that there is at least one bowler who is helping Amir to get 20 wickets, even against Ireland. Statistically, the 1st Test of WIN tour was won by Amir on 1st morning. Then, he confirmed the only significant achievement of PAK ODI team in this decade inside his 5 overs.

Real tragedy is that for a 7th rank team, hands down the worst player in the playing XI is their Captain, who is been given comfort of not having a deputy to push him, no back up WK either - combined effect is that being the worst player in XI, with absolute pathetic fitness & work ethics, PAK has to carry 10 men & Captain for the sake of it; and team (& fans) had to sweat to beat Ireland on their Test debut.

The fact that a toothless, defensive bowler like him is given preferential treatment when others have busted themselves in the heat of UAE and performed much better than him over the last few years is what irks me.

In Pakistan you just have to be a proven cheat and everyone will love you. The fans, the board, the coach...

JK (busted his caps and was out of form), Imran JR. (slow, not good if no reverse), Wahab (just recently dropped).

LONDON: Mohammad Amir appeared to prove his fitness as Pakistan drew their final warm-up match ahead of the start of their two-Test series against England.

A two-day game against Leicestershire was always likely to end in a draw and that was the case as the Midlands county finished on 226 for six in reply to Pakistan’s first innings 321 for nine declared.

Amir was one of several first-choice players rested from this match ahead of the first Test at Lord’s starting Thursday after suffering a recurrence of a longstanding knee problem during Pakistan’s preceding five-wicket victory over Test debutants Ireland in Malahide, Dublin completed on Tuesday.
The left-arm quick did however bowl at a lively pace on the side of the square during the lunch break and is understood not to have suffered any adverse reaction.

Amir, now 26, saw his cricket career almost ended for good after he was caught up in a spot-fixing scandal during a 2010 Test against England at Lord’s.

He was given a jail sentence by an English court and a five-year ban by the International Cricket Council, but made his return to the world stage two years ago.

In Amir’s absence, Pakistan still had several frontline bowlers playing against Leicestershire, who kept the tourists at bay thanks to a fifty from Ateeq Javid.

That Pakistan failed to dismiss Leicestershire, a Second Division county, may be regarded as disappointing but tour fixtures are a notoriously unreliable guide to how a team will perform in Test matches.

It is only two years ago since Pakistan, albeit with now retired batsmen Misbahul Haq and Younus Khan in the side, drew a four-Test series in England 2-2.

They also upset the odds to beat arch-rivals India in the final of last year’s Champions Trophy one-day tournament at The Oval in London.

That 2016 series also saw the now injured Yasir Shah play a key role and the performance of the leg-spinner’s teenage replacement Shadab Khan could now have an important bearing on this year’s shortened campaign.

Pakistan look likely to stick with the same side that beat Ireland with England, who failed to win a single one out of seven Test during their recent tours of Australia and New Zealand, recalling talented ball-striker Jos Buttler to a reshaped batting line-up.

Hope he doesn't get knee injuries like Junaid & Umar Gul. And than those horrific rehabs and counter productive treatments by incompetent under skilled NCA Medical staff.

It wasn’t the “team” who beat Ireland. It was JUST Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammed Abbas, and Imam ul Haq. All the other players virtually played NO role.

Mohammad Amir is fit to face England in the first Test at Lord's, Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur has confirmed.

The 26-year-old, who has taken 100 Test wickets at an average of 32.87, has struggled with a "chronic" knee injury which flared up during Pakistan's five-wicket win over Ireland earlier this month.

Amir was rested for the two-day warm-up match against Leicestershire, which ended in a draw on Sunday, but Arthur insists the seam bowler has fully recovered in time for the first Test, which gets underway on Thursday - live on Sky Sports Cricket.

"He's perfect, 100 per cent. He's fine and ready to go," said Arthur.

"We just sat him out that [warm-up game] because it was his rotation. (Mohammad) Abbas sat out the first game, Hasan (Ali) sat out the second game so he sat out the third."
