So PCB go with the guy who was out of the team two matches ago.

Is it the right decision?
 
Anything possible in Pakistan. Even Anwar Ali can be captain. When a team does not have any motivation or hunger for success than what difference does it make who is captain of the team?
 
Their hands were tied. No Malik, so have to go with serial choker
 
An ok choice in current circumstances.
We are loosing anyway and Hafeez will play anyway so, why put the pressure on a youngster and make his captaincy record 100% bad.
If the match was against Srilanka or Bangladesh or in UAE, then Babar should have been the captain.
 
Should have been babar or amir ,i wouldn't have mind imad too.
 
Hafeez is tactically better than azhar without a doubt but he doesn't deserve a spot in the team .
 
Just like fans throw names here n there, thats how our board works.
There is no one other than Imad n Amir in good books of fans at moment, so they ll reject anyone else as captain. I m surprised, no one mentioned UA yet
 
Lol what? If prof wins the team a match then things would be interesting.
 
Absolutely not. Can't help but think Azhar has something to do with this to help his buddy stay in the team.
 
Don't approve of Hafeez being in the side and especially at 3.

But this is the right move as he is a Sr and has some experience and it's only for one game, no other choice except Malik and Malik recently said he doesn't want to be captain, even though I'm sure he wouldn't mind for 1 game.

Now let's see them mess up the XI again, mess around with Babar by having move from 4 to 3 because the professor is going to open.

Most likely - Hafeez Sharjeel Babar Shafiq Akmal Malik Rizwan Imad Amir Riaz Hasan

Doubt they'll drop Riaz after 1 game.

If Malik isn't playing, then it's a big blow because I don't think we have another batsman so they'll go with Nawaz again who is useless with the bat and bowl.
 
Will be interesting to see hafeez captaincy (he is a thinking captain unlike Azhar).. ideally he should have been given when MISBAH retired... I feel that he will try UA as opener for just one game and if he fails will dropped.. Anyhow chance for Malik and asad tomorrow..

I am surprised to see so many negative votes. It's a blessings in disguise, since Malik isn't fit & not willing either.

People are missing the blessing part here - bring Imran Khan, PAK'll need a miracle to beat this AUS side at their home; so Captaincy doesn't matter much. What matters is had Imad or Amir been appointed, still the result would have been same; but the people that brought Azhar to be ODI Captain after 2 years wilderness, would have closed the door for any young cricketer for future, because he lost couple of ODI in AUS as makeshift Captain.

If I were in this position & U29, if approached, I would have faked injury to avoid that poisoned chalice ............
 
Hafeez is worst than number nine batsmen of Australia and England that should tell you where he belongs. A corrupt man who has led this team to lowest ranking in history and yet this "saint" lies on national tv about how he's the second coming of Kohli! Seriously this is the most disappointing day for me. A player who performed worst than domestic players is selected in national team ignoring merit and to make it worse this discarded player is made the captain. Disgusting.
 
Imad, Amir, Asad Shafiq, Malik even Babar Azam ...anyone of these could have been the captain. A youngster should have been given this position.
 
I think he is the right choice as he has captained before and moreover will have the responsibility of playing a captain's innings which he is capable off....

Are you 100% sure though?

If Azhar is asked to step down at some point, this shows who PCB believe is a likely alternative.

Sarfraz SHOULD be ahead of him in the reckoning for ODI captaincy but Hafeez is a senior etc. so never count him out.
 
It's okay I guess why would you want to give a youngster the captaincy in these Australian conditions where a win is almost impossible. Best to give it to Hafeez not like it's gonna change the outcome of the series.

That's just my opinion though.
 
Dont know if this is an inspired decision by PCB or a fluke!
