Sources have confirmed to us that just like last year, Mohammad Hafeez will not sign a contract to play domestic cricket for 2020/21 as he feels that the money which would be given to him would be better spent on players who are struggling to make ends meet due to structural changes in Pakistan's domestic season, and that his conscience would not allow him to take such a contract for selfish reasons. He is expected to play domestic cricket without a monthly salary.

As per sources, the Pakistan all-rounder has not had any disagreement with the PCB on this issue but merely stated his point of view based upon considerations mentioned above which is to do his bit for the welfare of deserving cricketers from all levels of cricket.

He should think of that when he’s in the national team. In domestic he should play to prove he is the best in Pakistan.

To be honest, he's become too big for domestic cricket now. He should retire his Cricket with a BBL stint where there are high chances of him walking away with MOTT in the form that he's been in.

good decision by him. Pcb might give him a retainer.

Btw, this also shows that Imran Khan has created a huge problem. Hafeez is doing this so that some other player can get his contract due to unemployment that has taken place with new domestic structure.

"DHAKOSLA".

He must be contracted to SNGPL or one of the other departments, and as per the new clause of the PCB he needed to get an NOC from his department and he could get salary from either the department or the provincial team, he smartly chose the department (department's salary must be higher than the provincial salary).

He is a very very shrewd guy, knows the pulse points of the desi journalist, they would have started singing his praises.

:)) Really?

if what you are saying is true than dammnnn hafeez is cunning.

But why would departments still pay money when their is no department cricket.

Always been a smart bloke has the professor

If only he could have translated that intelligence with a proper batting career, he would have been ranked alongside Inzimam and Miandad. Biggest waste of a talent in Pakistan cricket in terms of batting

I don't really understand this agenda of media to portray him as some HERO giving his contract to some youngster.

Hafeez was NEVER given a domestic contract by PCB, he's listed as an ADDITIONAL player for KP and PCB statement clearly mentions that additional players aren't centrally contracted but will receive match fees and other add ons as & when they play.

Fair enough from him. A nice touch and not something many people would do.

He doesn't play tests or ODIs, so what is the point of playing domestics?

At this stage in his career it makes more sense to become a gun for hire and play all the T20 leagues. More lucrative than playing in domestic tournaments and I'd doubt he'd have much interest in playing first class cricket. It's not like he will ever be making a comeback in Test cricket.

trecothick, alistair cook dont play T20I, ODI, and Test, yet they play domestic.

Talking from Hafeez's point of view. Makes sense to me. Others may disagree as they're entitled. So whatever!

Imran hasn't done anything. Nobody has the right to be entitled to a cricket contract, you have to be good enough to survive a restructure or look elsewhere.

Lmaoo at the excuses of helping youngsters. He rejected for other reasons

What other reasons?
Firstly I doubt he was offered a contract, he's in reserves(but can play as & when needed) as is Malik & Wahab. Also, players need NOC from their employers i.e, departments in order to receive monthly retainers from PCB. So, again though I don't believe he wasn't offered any contract, Hafeez thought why go the hassle just take the pay cheque from department & get match fees, daily allowances & other benefits from PCB.

To be fair to him I don’t think is Pakistanis have ever appreciated. He was our best batsman for a few years and his bowling made him one of our most valuable cricket players for a while. He has been inconsistent and his stats don’t reflect how talented he is. But he has always been selfless and always plays for the team. Seen him plenty of times approaching a milestone and not slow down for his milestone and still try to accelerate to get a good team total.

He also gave up the captaincy without fuss and always played for the team.

I think we will miss him more when he retires. I hope his chapter of his career end him on a high before he retires

Doubt it. He has over stayed his welcome. Gotten more international games than he truly deserved. We will be fine without him.

Senior cricketers Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Aamir have received a pay boost after being denied central contracts by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

The quartet has been informed that since they don’t have central contracts they will now receive match fees in the ‘A’ category which they were previously being paid in the ‘C’ category.

“The four had voiced their reservations to the board’s CEO, Wasim Khan that they are being treated unfairly that despite not being given central contracts they are not being paid match fees in the highest category reserved for seniors,” a well-informed source said.

“Previously after the central contracts were announced and they were not named in the list, they were paid fees for playing for the national team in the ‘C’ category which roughly came to around 202,000 rupees for a ODI and lesser for a T20 international.”

The source said that the four will now get match fees in the ‘A’ category which will be around 460,000 for ODIs and 330,000 for T20 international approximately per match.

The board, however, didn’t entertain another request from the players that they also be given some compensation for missing out on foreign T20 league contracts because of national duty.

“The board has said that it cannot give any compensation for this and the players have to give priority to national duty,” he added.

Hafeez recently suffered a loss of around 10 million rupees for having to pull out of the Sri Lankan premier league after he was named in the touring squad for New Zealand.

Although Hafeez only plays white-ball cricket like the other three with Malik only focussing on T20 format, the board also didn’t accept his request that he be allowed to join the team late in New Zealand.

“He was told that due to the quarantine and isolation requirements in New Zealand he has to go with the team or miss out if he wants to go and play in the Lanka premier league which starts from 17 November,” the source said.

Muhammad Aamir and Malik have currently gone to Sri Lanka for the Lanka Premier League as they were not named in the touring squad for New Zealand.

Today:

PCB offered Category C contract to T20I specialist Mohammad Hafeez, which he politely turned down.

PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan "“However, Mohammad Hafeez declined the reward and while I am disappointed, I fully respect his decision. He wants to wait for the PCB Central Contract 2021-22 list, which he is fully entitled to. Hafeez has been one of our star performers of the season and we hope he will carry the form and momentum to Africa."

Hafeez wants to maximise the time he has left playing franchise cricket, he shouldn’t spew this false narrative of complete devotion to representing Pakistan at the highest level.

KARACHI: Former Test cricketer, Moin Khan criticized Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for having double standards for cricketers.

Taking to Instagram, Khan said PCB clearly has dual standards while awarding central contracts to different players.

“Hafeez deserves A category contract and there are clear double standards from PCB to award him C category when Azhar Ali & Yasir Shah who also play in one format are given A category contracts. A true reflection of prejudice against an individual,” he wrote.

It must be noted here that Hafeez turned down PCB’s offer to be included in the C Category of their central contracts. PCB’s CEO, Wasim Khan shared that the veteran cricketer denied accepting the C category central contract.

Remember, Test cricketer Azhar Ali is in the A category while Yasir is in the B category of current Central Contracts.

One news report implying that some issues with Hafeez not getting a central contract but he has told PP that he had already said no to the PCB 4 months ago when PCB CE offered him a C category for last 4 months of last year's contract season.

Think Hafeez is at a stage where he doesn't need a PCB contract. In fact it allows him to be a free lancer and play in all the T20 leagues worldwide

Yes I don't think it worries him about having a PCB contract or not.

He's still getting plenty of T20 gigs around the world which more than compensates for the PCB contract.

Also have heard from many reporters about Hafeez being a wily real estate investor. I am sure he is comfortably set even if he stops playing today

It came on the news a few months ago if I remember correctly. However, Pakistani media tend to lie and spread rumors like wildfire, so it might just be a hunch.

Also have heard from many reporters about Hafeez being a wily real estate investor. I am sure he is comfortably set even if he stops playing today

There is an Akhtars youtube video where Hafeez while chatting to him told Shoaib about making good real estate investments in Pakistan.
Shoaib said jokingly ke "hafeez hame bhi kuch sikha de".
He is wise and savvy chap off the field. And good for him, cricket does not pay forever.

Hafeez , should have retired couple of years now, he is definitely lingering on with no purpose .

He is a smart guy and reasonably educated, for a Pakistani cricketer and communicates well. He should look in to coaching or commentary role, he will make enough money , probably more by doing that.

Shoaib himself has invested wisely in real estate. His PTV monthly salary is Rs 1 million and he has 2.7 million YouTube subscribers. Definitely not hurting for money at all.

In fact lol Ehsan Mani and Wasim Khan approached him for help in attracting sponsors for the regional domestic sides. I won't be surprised if he is a PSL Franchise owner soon

I was something of a supporter of Hafeez during the last decade or so, but I think he is past it now. I fear him holding onto his international spot will cost Pakistan dearly in big tournaments coming up. He doesn't look the same player he was a few years ago.
