Mohammad Hafeez vs Gautam Gambhir

You cannot take into account Hafeez's bowling to compare to Gambhir who is a pure batsman. You can only compare batting. Ignore bowling.

India has so much bating talent that a batsman who is better than our best batsman (Hafeez) is not even considered for selection for years.

Hafeez is an ATG all rounder and Gambhir is nothing...

So who’s better?

Lol is this a contest? Gambhir is a former Test Player of the year, and has played clutch knocks against opposition of all stripes. I passionately dislike Gambhir as a person (way inferior to his bete-noire Shahid bhai), who is a stereotype of all that is wrong with ultra-patriotic Delhi brats, but as a player he's on a different level to Hafeez.

Gambhir actually had better stats than Saeed Anwar until his last year of decline. Let's not embarass ourselves with these comparisons guys.

Aunty jee the Professor has been number 1 ODI all rounder for years and has played many clutch innings such as that 100 in the Asia Cup against India and 57*(37) against India in the CT final.

Another clutch innings is that 81(80) against New Zealand where he took apart Boult.

Let’s not even talk about his bowling. Hafeez

Hafeez is a joke of a cricketer, not to forget he has stained the green shirt by getting shamed by ICC for chucking again and again.

What kind of a thread is this? Come back when hafeez plays a 11 hour marathon to save a test Junaids , or plays 2 match defining knocks in finals, or is ranked no 1 test batsman at any point of time.

How many legal wickets for hafeez? :yk2

Seeing the logic being used here by some Pakistani fans it is safe to say Stuart Binny is a better player than any batsmen ever produced by Pakistan..

Not sure why bowling is being repeatedly brought up. I don't think Gambhir is a bowler at all.

At most I would think he would have completed a remainder of an over if the bowler left the field injured. That is about the extent of his bowling.

Only batting should be up for discussion.

Now let me tell you what gambhir did to you.
He kicked the daylight out of your mohammad asifs and guls in the t20(your favourite format) world cup to win his country the game. In the same game was born the Misbah the choker and joginder sharma the hero.

He made sure that his team wins the most famous and revered world cup, a 50 over world cup(SECOND for India) by making the highest run from india's side.

Now if you compare his achievements to the so called ATG allorounder, even a child with no knowledge will laugh at your and that ATG's face.

Your hafeez is such a wonderful batsmen that he is yet to surpass gautam gambhir's average, even though gautam gambhir hasn't played for india in years.

:))

I haven't seen such a joke of a player in any team but only pakistan. And most wonderful thing is that he is still playing for Pakistan.

:))
Yes pakistan like minnow country sufely deserve this ATG.

Icc test cricketer of the year
Avg 42 with bat in odis
Avg 44 in tests
World cup final atg knock
T20 wc final atg knock.
And he achieved all these while playing fair cricket.
Gautam gambir is better than all pakistani batsman in odis.
Although saeed anwar will give him a tough competition.

Rocket23

Gambhir may be the better batsman because he’s Indian and from a superior batting culture... but Hafeez smokes him as a player :ashwin

Seriously asking?
Is there any pak batsman who can compete with gambhir in odis except maybe saeed anwar.?
Just on the basis of statistics he is far superior to any pak batsman.

By this logic any halwa allrounder will beat a decent batsman.

babar azam saeed anwar yousuf and inzi are/ were all better

Saeed Anwar is yet to win his team a world cup or flavor of the month, CT.

Babar azam? On the basis of 40 matches with 0 good innings against top nations.
Not at all he needs to prove much more to even warrant a comparison.
Yousuf,,, equal avg lesser str rate, nowhere near as clutch as gauti.
Even if we consider the other two better
Gautam gambir would have been easily amongst the top 4 bat of pak.
So is hafeez better than your third/fourth best odi bat? Decide yourself

Averages are nothing. Babar Azam has the highest T20 average in history but does that mean he’s the best T20 batsman ever?

:)

Exactly. Babar Azam is the most overrated odi batsman in the world. Thank you.

Ideally Hafeez should be compared with bits and pieces players such as Jayant Yadav and Axar Patel. Flukes aside, he isn’t strong in any aspect to be honest.

Joke thread.

Gambhir at his peak was a gun batsman and Hafeez was never consistent or talented like Gambhir.

Yes, Hafeez was a very useful prior to his ban. So as a player, Hafeez may seem to have more utility.

Batting alone, Gambhir >>>>>> Hafeez
As a Player Gambhir > Hafeez

Baba jee that's fine, but I would take a ICC Test Player of the year over for sure. (Look at the names who have won that award!) Plus their career records are heavily skewed in Gambhir's favour; and Gambhir has clutch innings in two world cup finals where he top scored!

Even Hafeez's bowling comes with an asterix considering that he was reported repeatedly. Gotta takes those green-tinted glasses off this time :hafeez Also I doubt neutral fans would take Hafeez over Gambhir which is always a good gut check.

LOL, Pak fans have been cursing Hafeez and have been wanting him to be booted out of their team for such a long time. Gambhir in his career established himself as an absolutely top class batsman who at his peak would have walked into any Test team. He was the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year in 2009, topped Test rankings and T20 rankings, averaged more than 56 in Tests at the peak of his prowess. And was yet discarded when the selectors deemed that there were better players available. And yet Hafeez is still enjoying his spot in the team despite fans begging for him to be dropped.

Mohammad Hafeez is miles ahead of Gautam Gambir. Gambir is home track bully and has only one gear in his batting.

That's right, a home track bully averaging 44 away from home, while averaging 41 at home. Ultimate definition of a home track bully who averages more away from home.

Gambhir was infinitely better than Hafeez. He did what even Tendulkar could never do and that is performing in a World Cup final.

Gambhir is leagues above Hafeez. What is the point of bringing his bowling? You cannot compare an all-rounder to a specialist. If that is the case, than every all-rounder is better than specialist because the all-rounder is better in multiple facets.

Also, Hafeez is not a bowler.

For 4-5 years, Gambhir was a genuine world class batsman and has won his team a WT20 and World Cup Finals. Hafeez is a proven choker minus the Champions Trophy Final where he killed a dead snake, and he has never been a top quality batsman at any point in his career.

This is an embarrassing thread.

For many years Double G was the face of an aggressive Indian team. On the contrary Mohammad Hafeez was the face of a cowardly Pakistan team.

One player produced clutch performances in the grandest of stages.

Other player forgot his team mates names under the pressure during toss.

It's Double G all the way.

As much as I dislike Gambhir for his extreme right wing views but when it comes to cricket he's miles ahead of Hafeez. Even if professor's wickets were all legal deliveries this is still a no contest.

Not a great comparison. Gambhir is unquestionably the better opener and cricketer

Hafeez is a bits and pieces cricketer, Gambhir is an opening batsmen

Hafeez better comparison will be with Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Gambhir is leagues ahead.

Well Hafeez was a shade quicker than Gambhir at announcing his retirement. :batman:

Gambhir was ICC Test Cricketer of the year in 2009. All formats combined from 2009-2010 he was among the very best and clutch batsmen in the world. Icing on the cake being his legendary fight back 97 in the 2011 World Cup final. There is no comparison. Hafeez never once in his career reached those heights.

Sometimes I wonder wouldn't it be better if Hafeez batted at no. 5 after Misbah's retirement in ODIs?
