More Kangaroos than Humans in Australia! 50 million vs 25 million

I was reading an interesting report that Australians have been encouraged to eat more kangaroo meat as a way of controlling the population, which is around 50 million in 2017. Australia's total human population is 25 around million.

How come there are so many Kangaroos now? According to a report in 2007 there were only 7 million and now after 10 years there are 50 million Kangaroos!

Kangaroos are far from the dominant race, silvereyes outnumber kangaroos by more than double.

Just googled it, apparently Kangaroo meat is halal. at least according to the site I went to. Not 100 % sure though.

There are different types of kangaroos and i find red ones are the scariest.

There are pest here in Capital territory, on my 30KM drive i see on average 3 Kangroos dead on side roads which have been hit early in the morning.

Army huddle them to the corner and kill about 1200 each year, i think thats what they are allowed to

Yes. Did a quick google search. Looks like the Aussies are still divided over this issue. I think it will take time to decide how to deal with the booming kangaroo population. A drought in the future could fix that easily.

There is no division in Australia about kangaroos, you cannot herd kangaroos and confine them into a yard or suitable enclosure for slaughter.

A drought will not fix anything, kangaroos due to the reproductive system of the female almost makes them drought proof and the introduction of windmills on stations in the outback has helped kangaroos increase their population to what it is today.

I wouldn't do that if I was the relevant authority. Kangaroos aren't that bad you know. Rarely cause nuisance.

If excess population is damaging the eco system, then some measures need to be taken. For many herbivores, if there are no natural predators in their vicinity, it will be a disaster for the environment.

Extinction of Thylacine AKA Tasmanian Tiger is causing this issue for sure.

No, unless you deliberately corner and attack a kangaroo it will not attempt to injure you. People have been injured by kangaroos but only because the kangaroo had no escape.

If Australians could change their reliance on beef to kangaroo meat it would reduce the damage done to the land and improve the health of Australians. This would not have any detrimental effects on kangaroo numbers. In reality if kangaroos were the preferred meat we could see a rise in kangaroo numbers.
