Most of my Indian friends are actually more livid with Pakistan's performance than me

Based on the feedback from most my Indian friends i made at Uni in Canada, at work and some of my friends in India. A vast majority did not rub it in, but what caught me by surprise was that a lot of them were actually more livid than I was with Pakistan's performance and said it was unacceptable for the PCB and the selectors to be persisting with players who were complete misfits for the modern ODI game and that it was disgraceful for a country which produced Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Zaheer Abbas, Inzamam ul Haq, Mohammad Yousuf, Younis Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Abdul Qadir, Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi to be putting in such a shambolic non-competitive performance.

A lot of them made reference to Australia's dominance over England when it came to the Ashes from 1989 to 2005 where Australia won each and every Ashes series straight from 16 long years before England finally ended the losing streak in 2005 and that is how India feels about Pakistan right now where winning over Pakistan is just considered a boring easy formality.

I just remained calm mostly and answered logically that it is unfortunate that we have indeed suffered from a massive talent drought in Pakistan in the last 10 years where as disbelieving as it sounds, we are just not producing naturally gifted quality players anymore like we did in the past and we just took it for granted in a spoilt manner that we would automatically keep on producing such world class cricketers just like that without having a proper system in place and that because of our neglect, complacency we will have to go through the painful process of defeats and humiliations for a long while till a hero stands up one day and rises to the occasion and ends the slide.

Anyways, thought i would ask my fellow cricket followers over here as to how have their Indian friends, acquaintances reacted to the latest India Pakistan match i.e. have they rubbed it in? Made fun of Pakistan? Or expressed shock at how Pakistani Cricket has become?

Same here. I don't know what they say in my absence but to my face they were concerned a lot about the state of Pakistan cricket more than anything else. A strong Pakistan team is good for world cricket.

I am Indian and I am neither livid nor surprised.

The difference between Pakistan and India is due to India having changed while Pakistan failing to change. Thirty years of economic liberalization has made Indians value performance. That is why India is now able to compete with Western countries which always valued performance. Pakistan still has institutions dominated by "sifarish", and those institutions cannot compete with performance based institutions. I do not mean to say that by any means India is perfect, far from it. But as an Indian who has watched the country change, I can say that there is a very big difference between what was 30 years ago (when Ambassador and Fiat cars were the norm) and what is now (Chennai a hub of auto ancillaries manufacture for the world). "Sifarish" still dominates much of the economy, but important segments have been set free.

Yeah, Pakistan are boring as hell. I'm probably even more 'livid' than the average Indian fan because I read these forums often - enough content to bang your head against a wall.

On a sidenote, let's not get carried away with England's 2005 win against Australia either. That was flukey and good fortune in action, as evidenced by their 5-0 trouncing in 2006/7. The 2010 away win in Australia was of much better calibre, and at least had some follow through with wins in 2013 and 2015, though not without getting walloped in between whiles 5-0 in 2013/14. Go figure.

A minnow pakistan cricket team is good for no one, everyone wants pakistan to be more competitive so there can be a good match.
Pakistan has a lot of face value but not a team to match with it. I am sure even Pakistanis wouldnt want to beat a no 8th ranked team with no confidence.

I have noticed that this time there were no celebrations in the city, earlier streets would get full of dancing people and fireworks go off the hook.
In fact many people stopped watching half way in pakistan's innings.

I hope Pakistan team gets back to its old glory days so we can have competitive cricket again

Nah, Indians don't really care about pakistan cricket team to be livid about it, your friends are most probably trying to be sympathetic towards you, the media tried to create hype about the India pakistan match but pretty much every Indian knew that this was going to be an easy win for us, we were bored more than livid.

I beg to differ, there was nothing fluky about the 2005 ashes win, that was the best team in History and England beat them fair and square.

Agree, there were no celebrations, no bursting of crackers, no buzz on the streets, nobody was talking about it during the next morning . I doubt that most of the people were even watching.

All my family members left mid-way during the match when Hafeez and Azhar were tuk tuking because according to them what's the point in watching further when the result is known in advance.

Some Pak fans still hype the India-Pakistan match as " World's Greatest Sporting Rivalry " to self-inflate their importance and think that firing at the border between the two armies would keep the rivalry alive, no
matter how one-sided the contests become .

I'm also glad that there is no series being held with Pakistan ATM because a couple of thrashings by India would squeeze the interest among public for a couple of generations. There should be no series between the two teams or any mandatory first round matches between India and Pakistan in ICC Tournaments till Pakistan become a semi -decent team again.

Indians wanted their team to beat the pulp out of Pak team because at the back of their minds they still have Wasim, Shoaib n Saqlain....

They realised on Sunday that this team is not upto the mark so the feeling of competition gave way to sympathy and seeking logical solutions while still admiring their teams....

Its only people like me who follow Pak cricket that were not shocked by this sub standard cricket

Ditto.

Earlier even the ladies in the family used to watch Pak-India encounters. I remember one of my aunts keeping fast during 2003 WC match. They are no longer bothered now. My family members too left when Hafeez and Azhar were batting.

The level of confidence that people around me had was also something that I noticed. When Rohit and Kohli were batting a bit slowly I was a bit concerned wondering if we could make a 300+ target or not. This is when my brother said "Pakistan ke liye toh 250 bhi bahut hai".

I couldn't hear a single cracker bursting. No discussions about the game in office the next day, just a couple of memes shared on whatsapp. There was nothing to discuss to be honest.

This. I am not concerned. I wish we had good relations so that I would be concerned.

Normally Indian fans really don't care about anyone except India but we don't want to kick someone who is already so down especially Pakistan.

We used to be one before and that affection will always be there i guess...

Normally Indians dont rub it in atleast on the face. But I find majority of those exceptions in PP.

Why should they ? India were in similar situation around 25 years back.

I don't know if it's an age thing (or perhaps it's just because I post on here) but I was genuinely dissapointed at the Pakistan performance on Sunday. I'd rather see a close game and India win by something like 10 runs or 2 wickets than see a complete non contest. And speaking more generally world cricket needs a strong Pakistani side again and I hope we see it soon.

Heheheh when did Pakistan last played India in bilateral tie? Its been 10+ years and there are Pakistanis who are more still concerned about Indians whether they are livid or not.

The state of Pakistan cricket currently, has something to do with the isolation India imposed on Pakistan. They would be happy actually gloating that their policy worked. Anyway we should'nt care, used to hear and see how Asian Nations supporting each other thruout 90s against England/Australia bias, but what Pakistan went thru in hands of India is the worst it faced/is facing. So-called Pakistani fans expect show of honor and great moral standards from Pakistani cricketers but lack self-respect themselves, still promoting that country rofl.

My Indian friends did rub it in but I as a logical guy always knew we can not beat this team so I maintained my calm throughout the game and had remain on the back foot and as a cricket fan who appreciates the game there is plenty to appreciate about India whereas there is very little to appreciate with Pakistan. I made that known to them. Any how there is always a little banter but with every passing game the banter is decreasing. My Indian friends said there was a time when we would go to a cricket game to watch Pakistanis play because even as a neutral they were worth watching. These days there just is no skill, no flamboyance, nothing. Which I have to agree with.

On the game and as a rivalry on the whole all Indians and Pakistanis are well aware we can't compete. There is no point in calling it a rivalry. It is a mismatch of sorts and I fear that even a decade might not be enough to take us out of this slump. Kids aged 14-16 are losing interest in cricket so the next generation and future is not bright.

Earlier fans were scared of players even Afridi on his day could win you a match and people used to be scared till we won the match.. Now if you ask any casual fan they would not even know the names of any players apart from Shoaib Malik and probably Amir.. Pakistan team is full of nobodies at the moment someone needs to step up and become a world renowned superstar if that does not happen slowly India-Pakistan rivalry would be dead..

I think the mistake OP did was to watch the game with Indian friends - knowing fully well in advance it was going to be carnage.

Rookie mistake.

It is just a game, no need to take cricket seriously. We need an overhaul at our country leadership level, only then cricket and other sports would improve, otherwise we will remain mediocre, no matter how many PSL seasons are held.

Can't say I'm livid, but yeah, a lot of Indians did wish it was a closer match. Personally I thought unless Pakistan runs through our top order, there's no way they could win. And that's what happened. We're pretty confident of beating Pakistan in ICC events nowadays, because more than the Indian team, it's usually the occasion that gets the better of Pakistan. It's not fun or exciting watching India-Pakistan matches anymore, which is why you'll find a bit of sympathy from our side. Everyone loves a close contest, especially for a rivalry of this nature.

Lol. We are having fun dude. We want this going for next decade or so until we beat you in h2h as well.

This win was a dampener for sure. It was so one-sided that it gave a feeling that India beat a club team in a warm-up match.

Frankly speaking I was not even aware of the name of Pakistani captain before this match. The only Pakistani player with whose name I was familiar with was Shoaib Malik. I was barely aware of the names of other players. It means that most Pakistani players had not achieved anything special in cricket for me to remember their names.

While I dont mind India trashing Pakistan , I miss competitive matches really badly between these two sides . I remember how the streets used to be during these matches few years back , you will not see a single vehicle , but lately thats not the case . I think for the first time I actually forgot about the match , switching to playing games on my xbox and when I remembered it was almost 15 overs up and eventually got bored .

Only one guy in my office brought up the match next day , which was like a 5 minutes conversation on how bad the match was compared to the days how people would talk about each wicket or a shot for weeks . This is the part I completely miss , irrespective of we win or lose . I hope Pak cricket has reached its low aleardy and its all up from here .

Not livid. I am disappointed for sure. I grew up watching Pak bash us in the 90's (predominantly) and some of the players were mind blowing back then. I have said before, India would have died to have a bowler like shahid nazir who could not even make the second XI. It is disappointing to see the plunge and I do not see a way up any time soon.

To be honest my all time favorite bowler has been Akram. I used to never miss his bowling irrespective of the fact whether he was playing against us or other countries. However it really feels sad to see a proud and skilled team lose their way.

Hope the relevant authorities in Pakistan wake up and straighten things. I refuse to believe there is a lack of talent from the land of Miandad, Zaheer Abbas, Saeed Anwar, Akram, Imran etc etc.

I felt bored, then sad.

I have observed Pakistani cricket from the early 80s. To think that I could watch an India Pakistan game without feeling any tension at any stage, without being even mildly apprehensive of any Pakistani player (save, VERY briefly Amir and Malik), remaining absolutely confident we were winning this.

Come back strong Pakistan, I hope we beat you every time, but when you play so badly against us, well, it diminishes my cricket world and takes away a lot of pleasure from it.

There was a time when Indian fans would even know the name of Pakistan's 12th man. Today, many of them didn't even know the name of the captain until the toss.

It is true in my case atleast. Before the match, my PK colleague was gung ho and told me about how Amir, Junaid and the new kid spinner would (politely put) perform well and CT h2h would go up 3-1.
On Monday when I returned to work he was expecting me to rub it in but I did not say a word till 4 pm. In end he lost his patience and actually asked me why I did not rub it in.
I simple said" It just a game, a team wins some and loose some and someday India might loose too. Its just yor teams batting is very weak right now thats why they lost".
He was like "I really dont understand you man" and went on to criticize PK players and their commitments.
But in end, I think he must have realized that at least for me, its just a game with a bit more spice compared to when India plays others, but not worth spoiling relations with ones we collaborate daily, that too for a few seconds of pleasure.
I admit ,I did feel like rubbing it in initially but then I guess I looked at long term picture and decided that good working relationship with a colleague is better than few moments of sarcastic pleasure.
Guess with age I have changed too.

I request bcci/goi to cancel carribean tour nd schedule 7 match odi series nd 5 match test series wid pk team nd repeat the same for every 6mnths for next 5years..noo more tours to zimboks or windies

I was very disappointing at Pakistan's performance against India. There was no competition, only got to see Pakistan's batting and it was a disappointing from the start.

During match as we were in good position I wanted to come here(after long time) and troll some Pak fans like Bilal and Mobasshir but the way Pakistan lost the match I change my mind.
