Most talented batsman and bowler right now

Kohli for sure in batting. Supreme versatility across formats and is reaching a stage where he is making batting look ridiculously easy.

Sachineque stuff.

Just needs to get his consistency right in tests.

Bowling I have to think.

Kohli is almost 28 now and probably a finished product by and large.

Root has potential to go even further as of now.
 
Everyone saying fizz, what about Rabada? I think he's had a terrific start. He caused England problems in there recent test series.
 
I think Kohli is already established himself.
"Talented" would b refer to players who still are pretty new

Reg Root's improving and becoming better than Kohli...maybe but don't think so.

Kohli is a MUCH more talented player than Root actually.

He is much better in bouncy pitches and much better against spin with his body moving perfectly to meet the ball (unlike Root who hangs back and tries to make it work from there and does it more often than not). Yes Kohli needs to improve his consistency in tests but everything about his batting is perfect for spin and bounce tracks. Since he has improved his technique, he may not be too bad on swing tracks too.

And his LOI game is ridiculously good.

And I missed out Rabada I guess. Didn't watch too much of him to comment on him.

I don't think Root have a series in Australia like Virat did. He can have a good one but just not an insane one like that. If they can get root playing foreward he could be in trouble
 
Also Root is 3 years younger but English players retire early so he might still have a shorter career than Kohli.

Few years back a lot of answers would have been Rohit Sharma and Umar Akmal. Sadly they haven't been able to come up the curve.

Interesting that no one has even tendered Yasir as a possibility. He still has a chance of breaking a 120 year old record for fastest to 100 wickets. Is it the age, the fact that he juts went for 270 for 2, or that he is a Test specialist?

But yes, among bowlers, Fizz, Rabada, Amir (sorry wrist slitters) in that order.

To me Kohli is better than Sachin already. Sachin's achievement was in significant part longevity. And 28 s no age at all for a batsman. There will be no record left standing if he plays as long as Misbah :)
 
any expectations for a pakistan batsman to join the list.. at the moment i expect babar azam to shine in the LOIs. hope Jaahid ali, haris sohail and saud shakeel join the league too..

Kohli has a LOT to achieve to be considered better than Sachin.

Well, u might disagree with me on this subject but I believe that remaining at the top of ur game for a long period of time at the highest level of a specific Game is an extremely difficult task and it's certainly isn't as simple as it seems.


Now, if u take Tanis as an example there r players like tsonga, cilic, del porto and Rafa who r significantly more talented and physically stronger than Roger.


Let's say if tsonga and Roger both plays their A game against each other then Roger will inevitably lose to tsonga since tsonga is naturally more talented, has a big booming forehand and has the ability to hit some ridiculous amount of winners.


Even a few years back everyone was saying that Rafa would take over Roger as the highest number of Grand slam winners within next couple of years but Rafa is nowhere to be found now.



So what makes players like Roger (u can read Tendulkar here) a better player than their contemporaries and a legend of the game. It's their ability to play consistently well over a prolonged period of time and remain mostly injury free due to their superior techniques, fitness, work ethics and the passion they have for their respective games.

Fizz is so overrated, he is not fun to watch and can only bowl slower ones and offcuters, it is only a matter of time before batsman will start to read and play him well....
 
Back in the day Imran Farhat was pretty talented plus Rao Ifthikar Anjum followed by Rana 'The Flying Mullet' Hasan were quite the sensation in the mid 2000s

Highly underrated and unappreciated players!!

Talented? It's a domain of Pakistani players. You can't go wrong with picking two Pakistanis here.

Talent is usually associated with younger players and the future, rather than with someone who is (possibly) nearing the end of his career.
 
AB DeVilliers is the most the talented cricketer bastman, probably one of the most talented in the history of the game.

Mitchell Starc is the most talented bowler as of now.
 
Since this thread is about talented only, I would pick AB as batsman.

I am sure OP is asking across all formats, hence players like Yasir, Anderson, Root (to a certain extent), Steyn etc. gets discounted as they either do not play or not good enough in all formats.

Talent without performance means nothing hence likes of Amir, Umar, Rohit etc gets eliminated. None of them have any significant achievement yet even with loads of talent.

We also cannot consider someone with less sample size. The likes of Mustafizur and Rabada are very good till now but due not enough data.

If I have to choose a batsman and bowler across all formats it will be :

Batting - Kohli/ABDV

Bowling - Starc/Ashwin

These 4 players mentioned above will be first pick for their respective test teams and will earn a huge money in IPL as well.

I define talent as the ability to score runs for the batmen and take wickets for the bowlers. Going by that logic..

In test: Smith and Root atm (slight edge to Smith because of all-round record)

In ODI: toss up btw AB and Kohli

Although this may change at any moment. Kohli has entered his peak and next 5 years will be very interesting in terms of what he can achieve in test Cricket.

As for bowlers there is no clear distinction.. I will give a nod to Hazlewood considering he is a seam bowler. Not enough sample available for Yasir.
 
I won't stir the pot here but I genuinely thought Umar Akmal was talented when I first saw him against Newzealand and Australia.

The way he played quality quicks,picked up the length early which most modern day greats did when they started their careers was really amazing.It is sad that later he mostly became a legside hoick kind of a player...in 2009-2010, he could cut,pull,drive thanks to his ability to pick up the length so early.

Also with great ability to pick length,you eventually add the other aspect that eventually complements it which is is shot selection,I thought he showed that too albeit in patches in those innings....I thought then that it was youthful exuberance that was overshadowing it.

Obviously no one is perfect and he had some chinks in his armor like footwork against spin and not such a compact defense. It felt they were not such a drawback as someone who has a rare natural gift to pick length so early,it's only a matter of time,he would become a more complete batsman.

Trust me,Even with Kohli I couldn't have guessed he would become as good as he has become,as he had a weakness like most SC batsman against short pitch bowling which was exposed by Fidel Edwards of all people.

Fast Forward 7 years Kohli has become almost perfect against short-pitch bowling and genuine pace & bounce...He was always superb against spinners....last chink in his armour was the outswinger bowled at a good length....going by past history I can safely bet now that he has worked it out atleast to some extent.

Umar Akmal on the other hand from a guy who could pick length early has suffered from total lack of shot selection and all the attacking shots he had are reduced to leg side hoicks. To add his lack of a good defensive technique and ability against spin still continue to hamper him.

So use and predict "talents" at your own peril and be subjective about it.

I am glad Umar and Kohli were not horses as I would lost a lot of money betting on the wrong horse :)
 
Kohli has established himself. So won't consider him in that talented league. I will prefer to have some younger ones. So, Butler is one of those batsmen IMO who has the talent to succeed at the top level( not sure in test). Among bowlers, I say Rabadda.

Not sure why names of Kohli, Root, ABDV, James Anderson are floating up. Talented or not, they are established world class players with experience and mastered several different skills. Basically we are going to be talking about more recent debutants with 4-5 year experience in intl scene.

BTW, as an allrounder, I would say Mitchell Marsh, whom I barely rate but there really aren't too many budding genuine allrounders right now. All bits and pieces suited for T20s.

Root in his smaller career has played more Tests than Kohli. So, I would say he too has been around for enough time.

Kohli is the obvious answer among batsman. Would have chosen Rilee Rossouw but he's gone.

Among bowlers, Rabada followed by Amir.

Mustafiz is extremely overrated. Hasn't played much away from home and hasn't played at all in testing conditions.
 
Buttler hasn't kicked on yet. He is a special talent in odis.

Hopefully will end his career with 40+ average at ~125 SR with match winning performances.
 
DeKock/KL Rahul and Pat Cummins.

Pat Cummins looks like a Shane Bond level bowler.

Decock is just insane talent.

KL Rahul has serious ability.

In more ways than one, what with his propensity to be injured. The last six months do look promising, however, as his body seems more resilient to the workload. It's a major risk for Cricket Australia to allow him to play in the IPL after a long season with such a big year coming up: Champions Trophy, Ashes, South African tour etc.
