What's new

MS Dhoni and Shoaib Malik have cost India and Pakistan this World Cup, respectively!

It's not superstition. There exists a concept of the touch. If you want to rationalize it, there are plenty of things that go into it. The gut instinct that makes you give the ball to a certain bowler, making selection changes that people question but work for you. But most important for me in a Rohit vs Kohli debate - I seriously believe Rohit holds his nerve as captain far better than Kohli when an assault from the opposition is on.

I have to agree with this. Especially, the gut instinct part.

I guess if jadeja had hit that ball for 6, you wouldn't be saying what you are about him!
You are not taking into account that it was the multiple 6s jadeja hit, that gave india a chance of victory. If jadeja did not hit those 6s, and dhoni plodding away taking singles, it would not have been 42 runs from 4 overs, but more like 70 runs fom 4 overs!
I understand dhoni has been a champion for india in the past, but he is well past it and definetly cost india this world cup!
Should have picked a youngster instead!

Yeah but look the bowlers those sixes came against - Neesham, Santner and Lockie.

And that's my point!

When you know that, Neesham and Lockie Fergeson are going to bowl the next two overs, why would play a high risk shot against the best bowler in the opposition camp?

That was not smart cricket from Jadeja.

I don't think Dhoni is solely responsible for the loss. However, he did disappoint a lot of fans with his slow scoring rate and lackluster performance in the world cup. If you are being played for your experience then you must prove your worth in these pressure situations.
Overall, India was destined to crash and burn with this sort of batting order. They should have moved dhoni up when 4 wickets fell in quick succession. That is where Dhoni would have done wonders especially in this game where the required runrate wasn't that much. Instead they kept with the same batting lineup (which works wonderfully if your top order performs) and we all know what happened next. If Pandya had come down the order then maybe India would have managed to win this game
In essence, the blame should go the think tank for not having a plan B. In hindsight everyone knows what to say or do but this should have been the obvious plan IMO
