MS Dhoni steps down as ODI and T20I captain of the Indian Cricket Team

actually nope. he mostly played when the grounds are at least 80 mtr distance for the 6. his most of the mishit in his earlier career could've cleared in today's ground.

The top six hitters all can clear any ground effortlessly so I dont see your point at all

I´m really looking forward to seeing how post-captaincy MS goes about his approach in T20I cricket and even more interesting it´ll be to see how he´s used by the think-tank and where they make him bat. I get a strange gut feeling that we´ll see a few surprises.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been sacked as the captain of the Rising Pune Supergiants for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. The franchise has appointed Australia's Steve Smith as the new skipper. (Latest Cricket stories)

"We have opted for Steve Smith as captain of RPS for the forthcoming IPL season," RPS owner Sanjeev Goenka told India Today.

"Despite having a good side the team did not get expected results last year. Last year we failed. We could have done much better," he added.

Dhoni has extended his full co-operation and is ready to help Smith in decision-making on the field. While Dhoni is expected to keep his place in the side, the wicketkeeper-batsman is likely to be promoted up the order.

Dhoni has also been communicated about the decision by the franchise.

"Mahi was cooperation personified when we conveyed the decision to him," he said.

Pune, one the two franchises to replace the suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, finished seventh in their debut season last year.

Under Dhoni, the team managed to win only five of their 14 matches in the IPL 9.

Dhoni's form was also a cause of concern for the side. He managed to score only 284 runs from 12 innings with only one fifty to his credit.

The 35-year-old is one of the three captains to have won the cash-rich T20 league twice. He led Chennai Super Kings for nine editions starting from the league's inaugural season in 2008.

Under him, CSK won the IPL in 2010 and 2011 while the Champions League in 2010 and 2014.

Dhoni recently stepped down as India's limited-overs captain, handing over the mantle to Virat Kohli in all three formats..

As Bill Lawry says "When you're hot, you're hot. When you're not, you're not!"

Dhoni knows his end is nigh. May be we would see a couple of sparks here and there, but I wouldn't expect him to perform consistently. It was good while it lasted. I don't think he has it in him to reinvent himself at this age and his relfexes have slowed down for him to play like the days of yore!

Don't think he cares anyway. Wouldn't be surprised if he walks out of the game (soon) and we never hear from him again. That's the kind of guy he is!

Dhoni reprimaded after breach of Code of conduct.

Former India skipper and Rising Pune Supergiant (RPSG) player Mahendra Singh Dhoni was reprimanded by match referee Manu Nayyar after the match between RPSG and Mumbai Indians for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

According to the IPL media release, Dhoni admitted the Level 1 offence (Article 2.1.1) for breaching the code of conduct.

The 2.1.1 breach relates to IPL clothing regulations. And deals with breaches relating to a ‘Commercial Logo’ or a ‘Player’s Bat Logo’ as those terms are defined therein.

One of the core objectives of the IPL Clothing Regulations is to ensure appropriate and professional standards of appearance on the field of play and to prevent those practices that undermine that objective (for example the covering up/alteration of clothing and equipment with sticking plaster or marker pens, the wearing of batting pads painted with paint that subsequently fades or falls off and/or the use of prohibited logos).

For the avoidance of any doubt, there shall be no requirement that the Umpire must first provide a warning to the offending person to remove or cover up a prohibited logo before a breach of this Article can be established.

It shall be a defence to a charge brought under this Article to show that a Player or Team Official was required by his/her Team to use the offending clothing or equipment.

MS Dhoni conducting team India from behind the stumps

I've been pretty scathing of Dhoni's recent batting form but on a positive note it seems he's still providing lots to the team in the form of guidance behind the stumps. It's nice to see.

Yeah I saw these videos recently. From what we can see from the videos it looks like Dhonis still doing a lot of the captains work.

I don't think anything surprising here - WK had been the most integral part of any team on field because he is at centre of the action. WK is the busiest guy in the game, watches the game more closely than even batsman, he sets the fielding angles, slip positions, he can see what his bowlers are doing, he is aware of every single "code/signal" of his bowlers and he can watch the batsmen best while playing shot - for that every great Captain had a WK as his go to guy on field.

However, WK is the most clumsy & rowdy job in the business, therefore not many WKs were made Captain or deputy of his side, though most of the great WKs were extremely cunning and street smart. I believe, I wrote (when MS resigned), that still he'll be the vocal leader of the team - not because he is former Captain, rather because he is WK & street smart. PCB seems to believe that only being Captain, a WK can come in to use with his tips (& yelling).

WK's can see what is happening better then others. He shouts out encouragement and instructions to the bowler that is not to be confused for captaincy. No harm in the current captain seeking his advice every now and again either.

Wicketkeeper is standing at key position and can study (somewhat) what batsmen is upto. Mahi is very cunning and can predict what batsmen is trying to do specially against spinners. He always guides the bowler to change pace/line/length and helps bowler outfox the batsman. Not just cricket, but other sports such like Baseball where catcher (Baseball’s wicketkeeper) uses sign language to pass message to pitcher (bowler), similarly in football (soccer) Goal keeper often dictates terms in regards to free kick and corner.

One shouldn’t get confused with being a keeper and passing cruical info to bowlers and captaining a side. Two different things

Not really. Its a clever thing to put up a muppet captain for diverting media and unwanted eyes while actually commanding the team silently.

Stump Mic - excellent stuff :))

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is 36, and when cricketers get to that age, there are always question marks around them – how much longer can they carry on?

With Dhoni, on the evidence on the 2018 Indian Premier League, ‘a long time’ might be the right answer. There have been a couple of low scores, but he has hit three half-centuries and has ended the Chennai Super Kings innings unbeaten on six occasions.

Those have gone towards him scoring 360 runs in 10 matches – putting him at No.3 on the run-scorers’ table – at an average of 90, and a strike rate of 165.89. And most of those runs have come in winning causes; Chennai are second on the eight-team table with 14 points.

'Everyone likes seeing MS strike the ball the way he does' - Kohli on Dhoni

“It's the best I've seen him play for quite a few years,” said Mike Hussey, the Chennai batting coach, at the end of Dhoni’s latest round of heroics, and another Chennai victory, against Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday.

Chasing a modest 128, Dhoni came in at 78/3 and hit a four and three sixes to score 31* in 23 balls to take his team to victory. That took Dhoni’s season tally to 19 fours and 27 sixes.

In an earlier fixture between the two sides, Dhoni had smashed 70* in 34 balls to take Chennai to a five-wicket win over Bangalore. Then, the chase was of a huge 206 runs.

'He's the key man in our whole organisation both on and off the field' - Hussey on Dhoni

Though on the losing side on the night, Kohli sported a big smile when asked about Dhoni’s batting.

“Lovely to see. Everyone likes seeing MS strike the ball the way he does. It’s only a great sign for Indian cricket. The bigger picture is that, and we’re all very happy with that,” said Kohli, who leads Dhoni in limited-overs internationals. “We’d have liked to win, but he played well so deservingly they won the game.”

Hussey, who was a player with Chennai earlier, stressed on Dhoni’s importance to the team.

Dhoni has now led Chennai to seven wins in 10 IPL 2018 games

“He is such an important player for the team. He's the captain for one, he's a fantastic keeper, he's been in unbelievable form with the bat,” said the former Australian international.

“He's (important) away from the game as well. We saw the packed house tonight, so many Dhoni fans out there. He's the key man in our whole organisation both on and off the field. What I like about him, apart from watching him play in the middle, is the character of the man off the field. He's very calm and relaxed.”

The signs are good for Indian cricket for sure, especially with the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and ICC World T20 2020 not too far away.
