MS Dhoni the T20I batsman

This is how one can finish a match.you definitely need common sense.Dhoni sensed that Yuvi was in tremendous form so he brilliantly took singles and gave more and more strike to Yuvraj.
 
He's not the greatest, by any means, but he definitely isn't rubbish.
 
Dhon i did not have to score sixes.

Yuvi was there doing the job for India.

Had Dhoni played a rash shot ant and gotten out, I would not trust Jaddu and Ashwin to win the game.

Why Dhoni Strike Rate is low in T20I?

In today match against Australia Yuvi was at fire so there is nothing to blame Dhoni but am curious why his overall SR is low in T20Is?

I was looking at indian batsmen with at least 300 runs in T20I and if we sort it by Strike Rate we will see Dhoni at bottom.

I guess he takes time to adjust. The way he plays in ODI one would think he would have a much better Sr in T20.
 
This thread is pointless and utter waste of time. Dhoni can walk into any international team right now in any format and dictate.

well why is it dhoni will get out by playing attacking shots but not Yuvraj, face it Dhoni has limited strokes in his arsenal, he can get you 50 odds runs and remain not out in an odi. but t20 he is useless.
 
That is Dhoni. One day he fails like anything and that would make fans screaming against him with hatred. The Next day he surprises everyone by pulling off almost an impossible win with ease.

its a guarantee that Dhoni wont play slow every game, unlike our captain
 
Dhoni is crap in T20 Internationals = fact. Yes, he could have batted like Yuvi did today , rite ?
 
There was absolutely no need for Dhoni to bang the ball around as long as Yuvraj Singh was doing it !!!! At least ONE batsman had to stay at the wicket in case the other one gets out. This is a simple formula when the target is well in sight ...... no need to throw your wicket away. He kept giving strike to Yuvraj and in the end the Indians came out on the top !!!! What else do you need ?????
 
Surely one of the worst going around.

Have done Nothing of note in his career.
 
Indian team is full of flamboyant stroke players, they dont need extra power-hitting of Dhoni in every game. His stay on the wicket alone helped Yuvraj to score freely. Had Dhoni gotten out playing a rash stroke, Yuvraj would've felt extra pressure batting with Jadeja and Ashwin etc.

Its simple maths, Dhoni and his calculations are always near perfect !

Lets not talk about ODIs. He is a beast there. His strike rotation capability within his limited strokes is uncanny.
 
Lol. Even Jaddus and Ashwin's could score 20 of 20 balls in T20s, Dhoni is just as good a batsman as them in this format.
 
I can see where the OP is coming from_

Dhoni is jsut an ok T20 player.. No wonder why we have a pathetic T20 record and performed VERY poorly in last 3 T20 worldcup... He plays with an ODI mentantilty in T20 and leaves the risk-taking option to the other batsman...

As someone said, why is that the other batsman has to take the risk everytime.. what if Yuvi got out.. Yuvi had to hit everyball because Dhoni didn't take any risk...
 
That is why sehwag and yuvi sometimes get ****** of at this guy, he has done very little in all big achievements in indian cricket yet this guy got all the credit.

When india loses he never gets the blame either .
 
Why India has been flopping in the Last three T20 WC's is due to Dhoni. If not for Yuvraj today, Dhoni would have remained not out at the end scoring 25 runs and India would have lost by 35 runs.

He is going to lose the next T20 WC too. Worst T20 batsman ever, even Misbah is miles better than him in the T20s.
 
Dhoni has only himself to blame for his poor show in T20Is.

For a guy who eats bowlers of all kinds in IPL should deliver more
 
I was surprised to notice that he has never scored a T20 half century ( int ). Thats very poor record imo. And his S/r is also very very poor.

Younis khan for example has a S/r of 120 compare to Dhoni's S/r of 110. So you can imagine how ordinary Dhoni is.
 
He is indeed very poor in T20Is. Not a rubbish thread at all.

Guess the name of this guy:

His SR is 78 in ODIs and average less thn 34 but in T20I he is a gun player with SR 134+ and average 32+
 
He averages over 40 as an opener in ODIs. He isn't a useless ODI batsman like Younis but he hasn't been handled properly.

He can't bat in the middle order but the SL selectors and management fail to see that.

Even more strange is that he smashes all the trundlers in ipl as well but just can't seem to do it in t20 internationals.
 
Dhoni has been an average T20I player. But his knock today was far from rubbish, he played second fiddle to Yuvraj who was going all guns blazing, Dhoni backs himself to hit em if India needs it but also understands that Yuvraj's momentum would've hurt if Dhoni got out trying to hit.

Agree with you he proved to be a better ODI batsman as opener and he even scored in Australian and English condition while playing as opener but they wasted him in middle order.

Still can't forget his joke of an innings in the World T20 2009 against England, which resulted in India's elimination.

its shocking really, when you look at the way he bats in ODIs and IPL, you'd assume he'd be the best T20 batsman in the world.

Dilshan-Jayawardene partnership could have been amazing. But Tharanga had to play.
 
Yup, he is a fine batsman but the prince of edges which means he'd always be inconsistent as an opener. But his no of hundreds prove his class.

The problem with MS Dhoni is that he tries to bat in T20I like he does in ODI cricket. T20I cricket requires more so the fearless hitters instead of those who play a calculated innings.

Apart from the inaurgral ICC World T20 in 2007, where he played a couple of useful innings´, he never fascinated me much and neither was I in favour of him playing the last championship, nor the upcoming one in Bangladesh. Really dislike seeing him play T20I cricket and I am not sure what he wants to achieve. He is at best even not an average batsman in this format. I really believe he should retire from it and someone like Sanju Samson should replace him.

That being said, whereas his yesterday´s innings against Australia wasn´t any great or good, I do believe that he did what was required of him. As long as Yuvraj Singh was going the way he did yesterday, there was no need for him to do anything extraordinary. He simply rotated the strike and it was a sensible thing to do.

However, he has proved to be the reason behind India´s defeats on occasions in T20I cricket. Really can´t stand him in this format!
 
Pretty average T20 player IMO.
Becomes superhuman T20 player when he puts on a yellow shirt though
 
T20Is are a joke. What I mean is, most of these stats are compiled by one-off T20's like these which aren't really important at all. Yes he can improve his performance a fair bit, but that doesn't mean he s rubbish. he would still walk into any T20 team easily, even purely as a batsman.

the problem i see here is the "buffer". his calculation revolves around some timeframe and in t20, it becomes too narrow to "execute" his plans and hence is doomed to fail.

in IPL, he targets one particular rubbish bowler to destroy the momentum but international team rarely has rubbish bowlers like IPL. the reason why he has success in IPL but not in international level.

he has bashed bowlers like Steyn,Malinga in IPL.Perera is an international bowler too.

Its just a mental thing imo
 
If Dhoni still has any shame left in him then he should retire from the T20 Internationals ASAP and make way for Sanju.

Hopefully that will happen after he loses the next T20 WC for India single handedly.

A good point, but I think only those will observe who have watched his batting closely in the IPL. We both do, hence your accurate observation. Apart from it being a mental thing, you will also see MS Dhoni bat a lot more freely and you won´t see him calculate too much. Getting the matches to the last over is a habit though which will never change:msd.

Itachi bhai´s theory makes sense though and is not unfounded if you were to summarise without watching too much of the IPL.
 
Even though its an Odi but its a T20 scenario. With no Yuvraj or any other explosive batsman to partner him, Dhoni is going to show why he is a useless bat in these situations.
 
What a rubbish T20 player. Takes 20 balls to score 24 runs.

Worse than Misbah and a typical match loser .
 
A good knock today given the circumstances. India were not in a position to score 130-140 when he came in. Somehow though he just falls short of the exceptional finisher he is in ODI's. A decent player at best in T20s.
 
Hain?? I don't know if you guys know this but cricket is a partnerships game. Dhoni did very well today to recover with Yuvay!
 
Why Dhoni is not successful in T20 Internationals?

His average in T20I may tell you a different story but anyone who saw him playing T20I closely can tell you he is not even half the batsman he is in ODI. Most of the time he depends on others in this format to go BOOM BOOM i hardly remember any special innings played by Dhoni in this format.

Because he need 3-4 overs of tuk tuk tuk to settle in and in that period games mostly runs away from India.
 
I wonder why Dhoni cant bat like Yuvraj for a change , he always goes on with his usual 10 in 10, 15 in 15 and 20 in 20 knocks.
 
He should retire form the T20s ASAP. I bet any other keeper in India cant do worse than him.
 
Rubbish T20 batsman. Should retire from T20s from ASAP. Now just see him turning into a Tarzan in the upcoming IPL.
 
Has remained Not Out in 21 of his 47 innings to average 33.61.

Has never scored a T20I 50, however.
 
Another poor T20 innings by Dhoni - any other player with his record and they'd be dropped from the side a long time ago. He deserves his place in ODIs but does he deserve a place in the international T20 side?

He was in the t20 side just for his captaincy skills. If he isnt the captain he shouldn't be there. He has achieved nothing as a t20i batsman in his entire career.

When was he good to begin with? Most rubbish player who lost innumerable matches for india with his tuk tuking. He even loses matches where the runrate is less than 6.
 
Dhoni's presence itself is good enough to send chills down the opposition teams, frankly minus dhoni in the lineup, India operates at 60% efficiency, enough said.

Dhoni needs to be thrown out of the side, he has ZERO ability to make big shots... This innings he is playing now shows why it is already very late to not have thrown Dhoni out, he is taking up a valuable spot.. Pant needs to come in ASAP
 
again horrendous negative batting approach by ms dhoni , still people defend him.
He better perform well in worldcup otherwise if india gets knocked out with dhoni being culprit then expect 2007 like scenes from fans.
