Mudassar Nazar "I kicked Umar Akmal out of the Academy"

Talented Selfish Player.

Has ( or maybe had ) Talent but lacks the hard work, totally

I see him in shehzad, lets where his road leads him....

Should have been give this type of treatment at international level. His work ethic is absolutely disgraceful.

Thats why I believe Mudassar Nazar has a grat eye for players. He knew from the start that he is talented but is not hard to working enough. After 8 years Umar still hasnt learned a thing.

Mudassar is the best man in Pakistan related to cricket.

Nazar has served PC with distinction- long may it continue.

A few more reflections on Umar Akmal by Mudassar Nazar in his latest interview with us:

PakPassion.net: You had run-ins with Umar Akmal at the NCA early into his career. Where’s he gone wrong?

Mudassar Nazar: Umar Akmal was a difficult personality to deal with. Sometimes when you spoke with him, he seemed to be fine for a period of a few months and he would start delivering straight away, and then something would get triggered in his mind, which made it so difficult to deal with him. When he was at the NCA, he kept on slogging and getting out all the time and I told him to not come back. We kept him away from the academy for a few months, but when he came back, he scored 4-5 hundreds on the trot. From then on, he went on to play for Pakistan Under-19s and then had a great start for the national side. After that, things went haywire for him and he is where he is now. I feel really sad for him and I do feel that the only people who can help him now are himself or his immediate family.

What went wrong with Umar Akmal? Plain and simple, bad company

It’s his own fault as well but no way has his strengths been utilised properly look at the amount of backing given to others like Azhar and Shafiq who largely haven’t delivered.
He should’ve been a regular in the test team from 2012 onwards and in time given a run in the top 3-4 in ODIs I have little doubt he would’ve been more successful and contributed to more wins for the team.

How could he be regular in the test team when he was performing terribly in domestic first class cricket?

Did you know that from 2011 to 2017 or so he scored ONE century in first class cricket despite playing regularly. And he was getting caught in controversies (Hyderabad mujra for eg) even in that period.

No that’s wrong he averaged 71 54 and 51 in the 3 years after being dropped with 3 hundreds next few years he had a leaner period but in the last 3 years he’s scored 6 hundreds he should’ve been a regular of the test team.
Developing a batsman is key unfortunately at a young age he was made into a lower order hitter in ODIs and that’s been his career basically after 2012.

Things never really improved did they for Umar?

He seemed to never learn from his lessons despite many chances.

One of my fellow teachers had a close friend that worked for Leicestershire and his stories about how much Umar Akmal wanted to be pampered were really funny. He asked Leicestershire for a chef and they were shocked and in the words of the guy, they told him to take a hike. Seems like a spoilt brat

And who were these more deserving youngsters who deserved a chance ahead of Umar Akmal? Has we produced any explosive young batter for the past 5-6 years?

Discipline is so over rated at times. I wonder why did Nazar even have to release this statement on Umar Akmal when the lad is doing so well. He certainly doesnt deserve any credit for Akmal's success.

I actually agree, players need to be managed. You take away the natural flair from a player, you destroy them.

Umar Akmal has to own his failures but it didnt help that he was managed by oldies from a different generation who believed in average rather than strike rate.

For almost two decades Pakistan cricket could not recover because of these situations. Umar should have never been brought back after he was kicked out of academy by Mudasaar Nazar.

Years later he was kicked out Mickey Arthur too. Still found a way back

Well Mudassar wasn't there......others came to replace.......and opened doors once again to those who weren't welcome.
