Two people were killed as their car was fired at near the NIPA Chowrangi flyover. Police said the men identified as Moulana Amir Shahabullah and his guard Sanober Khan were critically injured and were shifted to a hospital where they succumbed to their wounds. A passer-by was injured as the car hit him during the attack, police added.

Moulana Shahabullah was en route to a mosque to lead Friday prayers when his car came under attack, officials said. The car, a Toyota Corolla 2007 model, was registered in the name of Darul Uloom Korangi.

Officials from the crime unit and investigative teams reached the site of the incident and gathered evidence. Nine bullets of 9mm-bore were found at the site, police said.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and sought a report from Additional IG Karachi. The Sindh chief minister asked the additional IG to specify whether it is an incident of targeted killing or not. Shah also ordered the immediate arrest of the suspects.

Thank Goodness that he survived the attack.. The law enforcement agencies really have to nip the sleeper cells of the terrorists completely otherwise these kind of incidents could occur from time to time..

Joint operation, proxies take orders from multiple benefactors/sponsors. MQM's terrorist wing get support and training from both India and Iran. Many of MQM's terrorist have taken refuge in Iran and have been on the forefront of sectarian violence and killings.

Religious scholar hurt in attack on Mufti Taqi Usmani succumbs to injuries

Religious scholar Maulana Amir Shahab, who was shot in the assassination attempt on Mufti Taqi Usmani in Karachi last month, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, according to the station house officer (SHO) of Aziz Bhatti police station.

Shahab, 45, was one of the two wounded when Mufti Taqi's car was targeted in a gun attack on March 22 in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighbourhood of the city. Two others had died in the ambush.

After nearly two weeks of the incident, Shahab passed away during treatment, the police official confirmed today.

On March 22, Mufti Taqi was on his way to deliver the Friday sermon at the Baitul Mukarram mosque on University Road when four gunmen riding two motorbikes had opened fire on his car on the NIPA flyover ramp at around 12:30pm.

Gulshan SP Tahir Noorani had told Dawn that the Mufti survived the assassination attempt as he was sitting on the back seat of the car along with his family members, but the shooting left police guard Mohammad Farooq dead and car driver Habib wounded.

The attackers had also shot at another car behind his vehicle, leaving driver Sanober Khan dead and Shahab hurt.

Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) executive director Dr Seemin Jamali had termed Shahab's condition as critical, explaining that he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the chest and head and was put on a ventilator.

Mufti Taqi was asked if he was reciting any special Duas when he survived an assassination attempt last month? The Sheikh said (paraphrasing) I don’t sing or do the mere recital of the Duas rather I ask and beg to my lord with duas. It’s my habit to ask Allah with duas during my journeys.
I was reciting Surah Kahf when suddenly gunmen started shooting towards my car...

Allahu Akbar!
