ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned former military dictator General (retd) Pervez Musharraf and his wife in multibillion corruption probe next week.

The couple has been asked to explain how they bought at least 10 expensive properties.

According to documents available with The News, two separate summons have been issued to the former first couple, asking them to appear in the NAB Rawalpindi office on July 10, along with relevant documents. “The competent authority has taken cognizance of an offence committed by you under the provisions of NAO (NAB Ordinance) 1999,” says the notice issued to Pervez Musharraf on June 28.

Musharraf has been asked to appear before the NAB, along with asset details, on July 10. A similar notice was issued to his wife on July 2. “You are hereby called upon to appear along with your CNIC on 10th July 2018 at 10.00 am at NAB (R) before Malik Zubair Ahmad, Deputy Director IW-1, for recording statement along with complete details of sale and purchase of below-mentioned properties/vehicles,” says the notice issued to Sehba Musharraf and sent on her Chak Shahzad residence.

The couple is, however, out of the country and is unlikely to appear before the NAB.

Last month, Musharraf refused to come back to Pakistan despite assurance by the Supreme Court that he will not be arrested upon return.

The NAB notices mentioned 10 assets, including expensive properties in posh areas and luxurious vehicles.

The properties mentioned in summons include a house in the Army Housing Scheme Clifton, Karachi, two plots in DHA Islamabad, and a plot in P&V Scheme No-II Park Road Chak Shehzad.

The cars mentioned in the notice include two Toyota Land Cruisers, Two Toyota Hilux and one Toyota Corolla.

The NAB is probing allegations of corruption against Musharraf on a complaint of a retired army officer Colonel Inamur Rahim Advocate, who has submitted a detailed evidence against the former dictator.

Col Rahim alleged that Musharraf misused his authority and illegally allotted multiple expensive plots to himself and his favorite officers worth about Rs1,000 billion.

The evidence submitted by the applicant includes a list of 10 prime properties worth billions of rupees which Musharraf held in his name and in the names of his family members.

“One can safely calculate that allotting thousands of plots/govt lands reserved for defence purposes caused losses of more than one thousand billion rupees to the national exchequer and at least one **** Bagh Dam could be constructed with that amount; therefore, it is requested that a suitable direction should be given to DG WR, (Welfare and Rehabilitation) to provide complete record of the land allotted and gifted by Pervaiz Musharraf and be cancelled and retrieved to Govt of Pakistan as all the lands situated in the country belong to the public of Pakistan,” says the letter received by NAB from a retired army officer.

The letter lists more than 10 properties held by Musharraf and his family members in various parts of the country and the worth of only two properties is Rs1 billion.

At least 3 Generals are right now on ECL and being investigated but no lifafa or desi liberals will tell you that.

If he really is involved in corruption then he must be held accountable, no rocket science and no holy cows.

It’s like i’ve been saying...
This is just the beginning...

Another sazish by the establishment?
Jokes aside if the countries agencies start holding everyone accountable table Pakistan will be in good hands.

Hasn’t Musharraf, in the past, claimed that King Abdullah gifted him a chunk of money?

Musharraf kay Papa ka Lagotiya yaar tha na King Abdullah jo uss nay (without reason) issay itnay Paisay 'Gift' Kardiyay!!

Didn't Musharraf make a lot of money from his Autobiography? He has claimed to have received gifts from the Sheikh of UAE and the Saudi Royal Family and he also charges a heck of a lot of money for his lectures and speeches in England, USA, Canada and India.

I am pretty sure with the amount he makes he is able to afford these properties.

Musharraf, his wife summoned by NAB

ISLAMABAD .: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf and his family members to record their statements in connection with a pending inquiry into ‘misuse of power and accumulation of assets beyond known means of income’.

In April, NAB initiated the inquiry against the former president on a complaint filed by a retired army officer Lt Col (retd) Inam-ur-Rahiem. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had ordered NAB to conduct this inquiry.

NAB Rawalpindi has summoned Musharraf and his wife Sehba Musharraf on July 10, while his children Bilal and Ayla and his son-in-law Asim Raza on July 11.

Rahiem’s application, filed five years back, claimed that Musharraf owns eight immovable assets in the form of property in Pakistan and two abroad. He has under his name three properties in Karachi, two in Islamabad and one each in Lahore and Gwadar.

It said Musharraf owns another property in Karachi under his wife’s name and two properties in UAE and the United Kingdom respectively. Apart from them, he owns three vehicles, two Land Cruisers and one Corolla under his name and four vehicles under his wife’s name.

Rahiem claimed that Musharraf’s assets do not match with his income sources.

On April 4, the graft buster recorded statement of Rahiem in connection with this inquiry and later it issued a notification addressed to district administrations of Lahore and Karachi requesting them to provide property details registered under the name of Musharraf and his family members.

Earlier, NAB had refused to conduct this inquiry stating that it lacks jurisdiction in the matter because as a member of the armed forces the general was immune from being proceeded against under the National Accountability Ordinance 1999.

Later Rahiem had filed a petition before the IHC, challenging NAB’s reply. In Feb 2018, a division bench of the IHC ruled that “the former military dictator is amenable to be proceeded, investigated, tried and convicted under the NAB Ordinance of 1999 if there is evidence that he committed an offence”.

The bench said as Musharraf had resigned and stands retired from the armed forces of Pakistan, the NAB is vested with the power and jurisdiction to consider the complaint of the petitioner. The IHC’s decision resulted in initiation of inquiry against former military dictator.

Corruption probe: NAB decides to seize Musharraf’s properties

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to seize the property owned by former military dictator General (retd) Pervez Musharraf after he failed to appear before the anti-corruption watchdog over allegations of Rs1,000 billion corruption and owning assets beyond means.

Sources told The News that the Rawalpindi NAB has written two separate letters to the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and chief commissioner, Islamabad, for the seizure of five luxury properties held by the accused in various areas of Islamabad.

NAB had summoned Musharraf, his wife and son last week in connection with corruption probe, but none of them appeared before the investigating officer, prompting NAB to issue another summon. The letter written to the DHA, a copy of which is available with The News, mentioned four properties in Islamabad, including Plot No F-1/GT Road Central Blvd, DHA Phase-II; Plot D 42/1, DHA Phase-II extension; Plot K 24/3, DHA Phase-II extension and Plot F20/2 DHA Phase-II extension.

Another letter was written by the NAB investigating officer to the chief commissioner, Islamabad, to freeze the Farm House of Musharraf measuring five acres in P&V Scheme, Park Road, Chak Shahzad, Islamabad.

“NAB is conducting subject inquiry; in this regard, it is intimated that accused Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf and others (Ms Sehba Musharraf, Bilal Musharraf and Ms Ayla Musharraf) are holding the following properties,” says the letter listing the above mentioned properties.

The letter quotes Section 23 of the NAB Ordinance, 1999, which states : “Notwithstanding anything contained in any other law for the time being in force after the NAB chairman has initiated an inquiry or investigation into [any offence] under this ordinance, alleged to have been committed by an accused person or his any relative or associate of [accused] person or any other person on his behalf, shall not transfer by any means, whatsoever, [or] create a charge on any property owned by him or in his possession, while the inquiry, investigation or proceedings are pending before NAB or the court and any transfer of any right, title or interest or creation of a charge on such property shall be void.”

The same Section states that any person who transfers or creates a charge on property in contravention of subsection (a) shall be punishable with rigorous imprisonment for a term in jail, which may extend to three years and shall also be liable to fine not exceeding the value of the property involved.

Last month, Musharraf refused to come back to Pakistan despite assurance by the Supreme Court that he will not be arrested upon return. NAB is probing allegations of corruption against Musharraf on a complaint of a retired army officer Colonel Inamur Rahim, Advocate, who has submitted detailed evidence against the former dictator.

According to complaint, Musharraf and his family own more than 10 properties in various parts of the country, and the worth of only two properties is Rs01 billion.

Saazish written all over it! It all started by putting 3 ex Generals names on ECL a few months ago when our Govt was refusing to place great civilian Nawaz Sharif and his daughter name on ECL.

ISLAMABAD: The interior ministry has placed the name of former minister for railways retired Lt Gen Javed Ashraf Qazi on the Exit Control List (ECL).

Informed sources told Dawn that the names of railways’ former chairman retired Lt Gen Saeed-uz-Zafar, former general manager retired Maj Gen Hamid Hasan Butt and former member retired Brig Akhtar Ali Baig had also been put on the ECL at the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
