Muslim man told 'this is a Christian country' in racist attack for reading Quran on London Tube

etiquette on the underground :)))

I do not use them now but have done many times in the past.

The underground isn't your Tory politician friends private carriage where everyone is dressed in suits and top hats, sipping teas and whisppering. Its full of all kinds of ordinary people, lower class mostly inc drunks, crackheads, criminals, louts. If you want etiquette use a limo and chauffer.

Your post was Gold, one of the best :)

Actually the underground is a consortium of private entities. Look it up.

Tired of schooling you once again in this thread. :)

The amount of cowards in this thread, absolutely shocking!! This is the ummah of Hazrat Umar ibn Khattab!

Some of the ridiculous excuses made for the racist and the incorrect assumptions/accusations on the Muslim guy really make you realise what a pathetic, weasly and colonised mindset some of you have. Genuinely embarrassed. Get some backbone and man up.

Let's clear up some of the nonsense.

- The guy wasnt reading the Quran loudly, he was reading it in a whisper to himself so he can hear himself read (it means you can read with proper tajweed and self correct)

- it was 7am on a weekend morning, the white guy had a virtually empty carriage to choose from but chose to sit opposite this guy and then moan about the noise!

- people talk, and have music on the tube all the bloody time, no one complains. Clearly the noise wasnt the problem but the public display of islamic worship.

- He wasnt 'shoving his religion down everyones throat', he had some spare time and was doing something he felt for himself. This was hardly an act of proselytising.

And I will reiterate, if youre a Muslim and you found yourself trying to defend the racist abs criticise the wronged party, you're an outright coward.

There is always an expected/acceptable level of noise in public. The aggressor here was a massive bigot, I don’t think that can be skirted around. He should be called out for it.

London Tube unwritten etiquette is to be quiet, but this refers to phones and playing music. Reciting a book is more akin to a quiet conversation.

Personally I would not speak loudly on the Tube as I don’t want my business known to all.

I wouldn’t have a problem with someone reciting quietly. The Tube train noise is loud anyway. Agree that the Saffer made a mountain out of a molehill.

The racist should probably get charged for hate crime but as Muslims we're Mu'min. Overt display of faith isn't required. The seat being sat on to read is most definitely unclean so the etiquette of reading on a train carriage is in itself debatable.

Lol! You realise that the Prophet SAW and the sahaabah regularly made overt displays of faith right? You also realise that even basic superficial things like growing a beard and trimming the moustache are in fact overt displays of faith which were encouraged so that one could always differentiate a Muslim from a non- Muslim.

The last point I would completely disagree with from a basic fiqhi viewpoint. If there is no obvious sign of uncleanliness on the seat, you make the assumption of cleanliness and leave the rest to Allah SWT.

Yep, and with that overt identity it's our conduct under the microscope.

Most of the defence is 'people's drinking and singing'. You think it's likely the seat is clean on public transport?.

At least we agree that overt displays of faith are not necessarily a bad thing. And there was nothing wrong with his conduct at all.

Yes, as long as the obvious signs of uncleanliness are not there ie stains or being wet, then sitting on a chair and reading the Quran isn't a problem at all.

Reading your previous posts in this thread, its obvious youre trying to twist this way and that just because this is something that makes YOU uncomfortable. You need to man up, my brother.

We don't know the full story either. The guy reading sounded very timid so if you are going to be the bastion up your defence.

Pretty much my take. What I go back to is how often you hear people having loud conversations on public transport and playing YouTube videos / music tracks on speaker mode on their phones. This is annoying, really annoying tbh but it doesn’t cause public conflict issues usually. The differentiator here was the Islamic element. Which makes the aggressor a bigot and a racist in my view.
