The Uttarakhand Police have registered a first information report (FIR) against a named accused and unidentified persons for allegedly assaulting a Muslim man while he was offering namaz on a vacant plot near a temple in Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district

A video of the incident, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, has gone viral on social media, wherein the footage shows a man approaching the victim during namaz, grabbing him by the neck and throwing him to the ground. The accused is then seen kicking and slapping the man, verbally abusing him and forcing him to chant “Jai Shri Ram”.

In the video, the accused can be heard asking, “How could you offer namaz near the temple?” The victim was allowed to leave only after being forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram”. The authenticity of the video, however, could not be independently verified.

The victim, Mohammad Shahid (44), a resident of Resham Bari area, had gone to Jagatpura for daily wage work. The incident took place around 2pm near the Atriya Temple.

I have once prayed at a parking lot because mosque was far and I was running out of time. Nobody told me anything. I guess that's the difference between Canada and India.

I agree with you partially. Everyone should stay in their lane, especially religious folk. The reaction was criminal and he deserves to be booked though. But the same should apply to those who chant Hindu slogans outside mosques, even if the nitpickers will argue it's on a public road. Treat all flaunting of religious pride equally.

“Vacant plot near a temple” and “in a temple” are two entirely different things.

This is is India after all, so ofc there’s always gonna be a temple nearby, and perhaps there wasn’t a mosque near him.

I am not really sure about specific prohibitions on non-Muslims. My reply was more aimed at Bhaijaan attempting to use Islamic injunctures to model Hindu laws which I feel is wrong. Hindus need not look outside to implement their own beliefs.

That’s what I tried to explain to people here but it’s not unusual that Pakistanis here who see world with tinted Islamist viewpoint would call it an extremist view.
