Indian Union Minister Giriraj Singh said on Sunday that “Muslims can well imagine the consequences” if they refused to support the building of a Ram temple, Times of India reported.

The minister made the statement while speaking to newsmen at a Baghpat presser. “Muslims are descendants of Lord Ram and not of Mughals, so they should support Ram Mandir. If they don’t support the cause of Ram Mandir, they know well the Hindus will hate them. If this hatred increases then Muslims can well imagine the consequences.”

They don't need the approval of Muslim's to build the Temple so just do it. Asking for Muslim blessings over a demolished Masjid may be going a bit too far. This guy seems to be encouraging civil conflict in his own country.

All 240 million muslims of India should migrate and gather in the northern areas and then create a new country there :srini

The minister is a Sikh? Why is the temple so important to him? Surely he should be siding with other minorities instead of speaking like an extremist?

Indian Muslims need to stand up before life becomes much worse for them.

Whenever I read news like these I'm forever grateful to my forefathers for making that arduous journey in 1947 and not staying behind in India.

Do you still have any relatives left in India and how do they feel?

Where does it say he is Sikh? Singh is a common name across India do you think Dhoni is Sikh?

That's news to me (as I'm sure majority of Pakistanis). I thought Singh was an exclusively Sikh last name.

Or maybe we get an atheist dictator and destroy all temples mosques churches religious scripture ,start a brand new religion free India?

I'm sure the feeling is mutual, but in your own words you might have relatives here ,do you think anyone who migrated will have relatives in Punjab/Sindh/Peshawar?

Congratulations then..

You can't expect anything else from them, but this is slap on the face of Muslims in Hindustan as well, who over try to sell the "patriotic/nationalist" image, even taking on Hindu names in some cases.

You just have to look at the evolution : the greatest Deobandi scholar of the last century, Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi, basically quit the Deoband movement for its pro Congress stance, in the sense that as a Muslim you can't associate yourself with idolaters, and decades later, the same Deoband school of India, which thus naturally followed Maulana Husain Ahmad Madani's brand of "Indian nationalism", is issuing fatwas over fatwas on the legitimacy of yoga. Just imagine.

The Qur'an has already warned us that they would never be content until you totally adopt their religion/system of life, yet in India they've reached a level when they're literally about to support or why not even build an idolatry temple.

Where does it say he is Sikh? Singh is a common name across India do you think Dhoni is Sikh?

I was asking the question is he a Sikh.

Ok he's not but what does he mean when he says "Muslims are descendants of Lord Ram and not of Mughals"

Is he deluded?

That's news to me (as I'm sure majority of Pakistanis). I thought Singh was an exclusively Sikh last name.

Not just Sikhs or other North Indian Hindus, even South Indians and North East Indians have surname 'Singh' quite often. I know Tamils with Singh surname and even Christians use it liberally. In most Indian languages it means 'Lion', sometimes the spelling changes depending on region (variants) but meaning is same.

I was asking the question is he a Sikh.

Ok he's not but what does he mean when he says "Muslims are descendants of Lord Ram and not of Mughals"

Is he deluded?

He is Hindu, an MP from Bihar. He is a motormouth and frankly very idiotic, makes stupid statements every now and then. Even I wonder how this nincompoop got Central Ministry rank, maybe some caste factor which helps his party in Bihar. He is a butt of jokes here, totally memeworthy.

That's news to me (as I'm sure majority of Pakistanis). I thought Singh was an exclusively Sikh last name.

Sikhs have only existed for about 300 years, the name is far older than them.

Divide 'em and rule 'em.

These Muslim killers (Modi and his goons) have no other argument but to spread hate among Indians on basis of religion.

And it is doing wonders for them, they got money and power.

Or maybe we get an atheist dictator and destroy all temples mosques churches religious scripture ,start a brand new religion free India?

You mean inflict the good old Atheist terror communist style? I'll pass.

You mean inflict the good old Atheist terror communist style? I'll pass.

Most religions did the same,so communist atheist terror is actually a 20th century thing compared to what religions have done for years.

I don't understand why they don't build the temple thereby putting a permanent end to the whole controversy. Thing is that their governments whoever is in power deliberately keeps it an outstanding issue so to play politics over it. They don't want an end to this debate.

Most religions did the same,so communist atheist terror is actually a 20th century thing compared to what religions have done for years.

Perhaps. But Atheists are inventing new ways of not just killing people but ending the world once and for all :))

Nothing will happen. No temple or mosque will ever be built here. Get over it.

Like a horror movie, the emphasis will always be on whether a temple is going to be constructed here. After all, the BJP/RSS have crafted a multi-generational corporation out of this.

In the meantime, it is very easy to demonize Muslims regardless, be it India, Sri Lanka, China or France. That is another debate.

Every election season this silly topic rears it's ugly head - people in UP need good schools, hospitals, law and order etc not another place of worship.

Having said that, the site is almost 3 acres in size - there's more than enough room to build both a large mosque and temple - build a school or hospital there too so that some good can finally come of this sorry mess.

Whenever I read news like these I'm forever grateful to my forefathers for making that arduous journey in 1947 and not staying behind in India.

These threads are never complete without a "Thank you Mr Jinnah!" contribution from Syed1. :salute

Nonsense! This pathetic topic isn't even a minuscule issue for a common Indian.

Is this true? :inti

'Kar Sevak Balbir Singh who helped demolish Babri Masjid is now Mohammed Amir, a man determined to rebuild 100 mosques'

Indian town abuzz as divisive Ram temple nears completion at Babri Masjid site

In an Indian town known as a flashpoint for sectarian violence, workers are crafting the final touches on a divisive temple that has come to symbolise the country’s rising tide of Hindu nationalism.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will next month inaugurate Ayodhya’s new shrine to Lord Ram on a site where the 16th-century Babri Mosque once stood before it was torn down by Hindu zealots more than three decades ago.

Muslim residents of the city, remembering the deadly riots that accompanied the demolition, have been wary of its renewed atmosphere of religious fervour.

But for many more, the project is both a means of restoring Ayodhya to the glory of its depiction in ancient Hindu texts and proof of Modi’s commitment to defending India’s majority faith just months ahead of national elections.

“Modi has stayed true to his promise,” housewife Gudiya Devi told AFP outside another temple in Ayodhya after her morning prayers.

“All these years we dreamt of a majestic Ram temple and now that dream is coming true,” she added. “This is all thanks to Modi. He is our true leader.”

Artisans were toiling on top of bamboo scaffolds on Friday to finish ornamental details on the main structure of the imposing shrine, which will stand 50 metres tall at its highest point.

With a price tag of an estimated 20 billion rupees ($240 million) according to project manager Jagdish Aphale, its builders expect tens of millions of Hindu pilgrims to visit the temple each year.

Immense sums from government coffers have poured into Ayodhya to give the city’s dilapidated infrastructure a facelift ahead of the inauguration.

A new international airport will open on Saturday, road and rail connections have been upgraded and a crop of new hotels have sprung up almost overnight.

Sidewalks and pillars have been decorated with saffron flags and marigold flowers used in Hindu festivities to welcome travellers.

“So many pilgrims have already started pouring into the city,” said Shubh Mangal, a 52-year-old who makes his living selling flowers and other offerings for Hindu worshippers.

“My profits have doubled. We are all overjoyed.”

‘Full of dread’
Ram is one of the most revered deities in the Hindu pantheon as the protagonist of the Ramayana, one of the faith’s two foundational epics, which chronicles his battles with the demon-king Ravana.

Devout Hindus believe that Ram was born in Ayodhya around 7,000 years ago but that during the rule of the Mughal Empire, the Babri Masjid mosque was built on top of his birthplace in the 16th century.

Modi’s presence at the inauguration is effectively the opening salvo in his campaign for re-election later in 2024.

His Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has campaigned for decades to build a temple on the site and its activists were instrumental in the mosque’s demolition.

One senior BJP leader travelled around the country to rally the faithful to the cause in a Toyota sedan fitted to resemble Ram’s mythical chariot — a procession that sparked multiple religious riots in its wake.

The mosque was torn down by a mob in 1992, triggering another wave of riots across the country that killed 2,000 people, mostly Muslims.

Its destruction was a hammer blow to the foundations of India’s secular political order, paving the way for the rise of Hindu nationalism to become the country’s dominant political force.

The site lay dormant for decades before a Supreme Court decision in 2019 permitted construction of the Ram temple.

This news article is a Classic example of how agenda driven notorious narratives are peddled through mainstream media. For instance the article very conveniently never mentions the fact that the Mosque was built squarely on top of the remains of the Ram Temple, which is a fact proven through a Proper archeological survey with witnesses from all parties involved in the dispute under court orders. And this was not a Random temple nor did the movement to reclaim the temple start in 1992. Also it is common knowledge that such acts were soo routine that the warlords who indulged in these acts proudly chronicled these acts through their court historians.

In the case of Ram Mandir, the court litigation dates back to British era. It was torn down only after the petulant Muslim community refused to acknowledge that the Mosque was built after demolishing a very sacred temple despite repeated attempts stretching multiple decades. Ditto for Kashi and Mathura. See the YouTube link below for a detailed summary of this from a Historians perspective.

Link: Ram mandir history

Also the article laments how the demolition was a "Hammer blow" to secularism in India implying that the responsibility of Secularism rests solely in the hands of Hindus and as part of that responsibility they must pretend that these Mosques and the ideology that was responsible for their construction in the first place was legit and nothing unholy about it even when anyone with two functional eyes can see that these Mosques were purposely built after demolishing temples. Especially the Gyanvapi Mosque as can be seen from the Picture below:

Congress Boycott Ram Temple inauguration on 22 Jan

The BJP on January 11 slammed the Congress' decision to decline the invitation to its three top leaders to attend the Ram temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya, claiming it has exposed the party's inherent opposition to India's culture and Hindu religion.

Due to its feelings of "jealousy, malice and inferiority complex" towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress had gone to the extent of opposing the country and is now opposing God, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi told reporters.

The Ram temple in Ayodhya symbolises the highest values of Indian traditions and culture, he said, but for the Congress and other Opposition parties with a similar mindset extremist politics is more important, he alleged.

What is new? Nehru tried to stop the construction of the Somnath temple. Sardar Patel then had to involve Gandhiji and once Gandhiji agreed Nehru had to backoff. Later at the consecration of the temple, Rajendra Prasad was invited and Nehru tried to stop him as well.

It was Nehru in 1949 who tried to get the ram lala idols removed.

Congress lawyers tried to stop the construction of the temple and called Ram as imaginary.

They are just continuing their tradition.

Sums up the whole project in a few sentences. Veiled threats issued by the nation's minister to religious minorities in their own country. The face of secular India today.

Modi's promised Ram temple is set to open and resonate with Hindus ahead of India's election

Frenzied preparations were underway Wednesday in India's northern holy city of Ayodhya to mark the opening of a grand temple for Lord Ram, Hinduism’s most revered deity.

The Ram Mandir's opening Monday would fulfill a decadeslong Hindu nationalist pledge that is expected to resonate with voters during the upcoming national election expected in April or May.

Several sprawling tent cities were being erected nearby to accommodate tens of thousands of devotees who are expected to attend. Dozens of private jets will fly India’s powerful elite, including top industrialists, movie stars and celebrities, to Ayodhya to see the ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has planned live screenings across the country, as well as at some Indian embassies across the world.

Modi will be in attendance, alongside several Hindu priests, for the consecration ceremony in which a statue of Ram is to be placed in the temple's inner sanctum.

Modi's ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party has long campaigned for the temple to replace the 16th-century Babri Mosque that was demolished by Hindu mobs in 1992, sparking nationwide riots that killed more than 2,000 people, mostly Muslims. The decadeslong dispute ended in 2019 when, in a controversial decision, India’s Supreme Court granted the site to Hindus and gave a different plot of land to Muslims for a mosque.

The temple's opening at one of India’s most contentious religious sites ahead of the national polls scheduled for the spring is expected to give major momentum to Modi as he looks to extend his rule for a record third-consecutive term by drawing on the religious sentiments of Hindus, who make up about 80% of India’s population.

The temple, a three-story structure clad in pink sandstone, stretches across 2.9 hectares (7.2 acres) in a 28-hectare (70-acre) complex. It will have a 1.3-meter (4.25-foot) idol of Lord Ram, whom Hindus believe was born at the exact site where the razed mosque once stood.

The city, once dotted with tightly packed houses and rundown stalls, is already witnessing an elaborate makeover.

Nearly 7,500 people are expected at the opening ceremony, and by the end of the year a staggering 100,000 devotees per day are predicted to descend on Ayodhya, according to official estimates.

The narrow roads have given way to four-lane pilgrim route, including the newly developed 13-kilometer (8-mile) Ram Path leading to the temple. The city boasts a new airport and a sprawling railway station with a daily passenger capacity of more than 50,000 people. Major hotel chains are building new properties and locals are converting their homes into homestays. Flower sellers and street food vendors, anticipating a surge in demand, have transformed their shops.

Ananya Sharma, a local tour operator, said Ayodhya’s transformation gained momentum after the 2020 groundbreaking ceremony of the temple, also attended by Modi.

“Subsequent development initiatives have elevated Ayodhya to a destination of both spiritual and economic significance,” Sharma said.

The temple is being built at an estimated cost of $217 million, but it is far from complete. The site is filled with roaring bulldozers and busy builders still working on the elaborate 46 doors — 42 of which will have a layer of gold totaling around 100 kilograms (220 pounds) — and numerous wall carvings that will form the final architecture of the temple.

At least two head priests from a Hindu sect have refused to go the opening ceremony, saying consecrating an unfinished temple goes against Hindu scriptures. Some top leaders from India's main opposition Congress party have turned down invitations to attend, with many opposition lawmakers calling the temple a political project.

Across India, however, the mood among Hindus has reached a feverish pitch.

Politicians are visiting local temples and mopping the floors, obeying a directive that came directly from Modi. Indian TV channels are running wall-to-wall coverage ahead of the event. And volunteers from Modi’s party and other Hindu nationalist groups are going door to door, distributing religious flags and pamphlets.

On a recent afternoon, Om Prakash Bhatia went to house after house in a New Delhi neighborhood inviting people to take part in Hindu ceremonies at local temples. Joined by other volunteers, he passed saffron flags — a color associated with Hinduism — to the residents, who presented him with marigold garlands and smeared vermillion on his forehead.

“Lord Ram is the center of our faith. After slavery and struggle of 500 years, finally the name of Lord Ram is victorious,” Bhatia said, referring to the Mughals who ruled India before the British colonized it.

He chanted “Jai Sri Ram,” or “Hail Lord Ram,” a slogan that has become a battle cry for Hindu nationalists, who claim the Muslim Mughal rulers destroyed Hindu culture. It has prompted Hindu nationalists to seek ownership of hundreds of historic mosques, sparking fears over the status of religious places for India’s Muslims, a minority community that has come under attack in recent years by Hindu nationalist groups who seek to turn officially secular India into an avowedly Hindu nation.

Not "the" minority, but "a" minority. He may be stating the obvious, that if muslims don't support justice for hindus, then hindus will also reciprocate likewise and won't support them when it comes to their rights. For long hindus have allowed special rights to muslims which they themselves don't get, and it may change if muslims don't support hindus.

Don't see any of the famous Bollywood Khans on the invite list. Is there a reason?

Religious spectacle to mark opening of Ram temple by India's Modi

A grand temple to Hindu god Lord Ram opens on Monday on a site in India millions believe is his birthplace, in a religious spectacle led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi months before he seeks a rare third term in elections.

The construction of the temple is a 35-year-old, central promise of Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a contentious political issue that helped catapult the party to prominence and power.

Hindu groups are portraying the inauguration ceremony in the northern city of Ayodhya as the peak of Hindu awakening after centuries of subjugation by Muslim and colonial powers.

It is also being seen as the virtual launch of the deeply religious strongman Modi’s re-election campaign for general elections due by May.

The temple site was bitterly contested for decades with both Hindus and Muslims laying claim to it and was a flashpoint for violence after a Hindu mob in 1992 destroyed a 16th century mosque which stood there.

India's majority Hindus say the site is the birthplace of Lord Ram, and was holy to them long before Muslim Mughals razed a temple at the spot and built the Babri Masjid or mosque there in 1528.

In 2019, the Supreme Court handed over the land to Hindus and ordered allotment of a separate plot to Muslims.

On Monday, Modi will take part in the culmination of rituals to inaugurate the temple, for which thousands of members of BJP and its affiliates, religious leaders and devotees from across the country are expected to gather in Ayodhya.

Some of India’s top business leaders, movie actors and sportspersons have also been invited for the consecration, organisers said.

RELIGIOUS OUTPOURING, POLITICAL CONTROVERSY

“The Lord has made me an instrument to represent all the people of India during the consecration,” Modi said on X as he began 11 days of special rituals ahead of the inauguration.

Calling it a “historic moment” when Lord Ram will take his place in his grand temple, Modi has urged Indians to light lamps in their homes and neighbourhood temples on Monday evening and once again celebrate Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights which usually falls in October-November.

“The consecration of the temple feels more like the launching of the general election campaign rather than a religious ritual,” said Prithvi Datta Chandra Shobhi, a political commentator who teaches at Krea University in southern India.

“The prime minister appears to inhabit the role of an emperor who is undertaking a major ritual sacrifice,” he said.

The temple has been built on a 2.67-acre (1.08 hectares) site inside a 70-acre (28.33 hectares) complex and only its first phase is ready. The second and final phase is expected to be completed in December 2025.

The project is estimated to cost 15 billion rupees ($181 million) and is entirely funded by donations from within the country.

India has witnessed an emotional outpouring among Hindus ahead of the consecration, with residential colonies and markets flying holy flags, organising special prayers and making plans to show the live telecast of Monday’s event on giant screens.

The inauguration has also sparked a political controversy with major opposition parties, including the main opposition Congress, declining invitations to attend saying it had been converted into a political, Modi event.

Muslim groups were not happy with the 2019 court verdict which gave the site to Hindus but said they would accept it “with humility”. Nearly five years on, they indicated they had moved on.

“The construction of the temple is going on as per the direction of the Supreme Court, so we welcome it. I don't think there's any feeling of ill-will in the Muslim community,” said Zufar Ahmad Faruqi, head of the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation that is building a new mosque in Ayodhya about 25 km (15 miles) from the temple.

LOL. Yup.

If you observe carefully, you can see they do not make comments on Ukraine-Russia issue or another issue. But, they are always enthusiastic about Mughal topics and Israel-Gaza topics.

If Mughals were not Muslims, I doubt many Indians would've cared or made comments.

Quite funny.
