Hey guys,

I'll be posting some personal match experiences in this thread for my club this season. I'll be posting updates every week describing how I do. To introduce myself, I am a spin bowler - slow left arm, not much of a batsman. Maybe a decent bat at #9 at best. My strengths are my flight and accuracy. Weaknesses include catching....batting I could say to an extent.

I play for my local club in a country division in Middlesex. I am also just starting my third season for the club. I'll be posting personal match experiences as well as scorecards etc. This is so that I could look back here as a personal log and see how I develop as the season and my career progresses.

We played our first fixture as a friendly up in Tring Park yesterday. It was a very nice fixture. It was the first game of the season for everyone so people were buzzing and excitement filled the pavilion.

We put out a fairly weak-medium team. A good bowling unit with a decent batting line up. We obviously wanted to field first, because everyone wanted a game and didn't want to be in the position where we get bowled out for less than 100 then the team chases it down quickly for everyone to go home a couple hours earlier. Everyone payed their match fee so everyone wanted a decent game time.

We lost the toss and got put in to bat first. The opposition took early wickets. We were going ok at 60/3. Given our batting line up, we thought 160 would be a decent score to try and fight for. In the end, I came out at #11. Stuck in there for three deliveries while the #10 got out stumped trying to eek out any few runs possible.

In the end we got all out for 114. It was a very mediocre score but at least something to try and bowl at. The pitch was pretty good for both batting and bowling. No demons. I guess I could sum up our batting performance as a bit too aggressive. Everyone was trying to go for the runs when they saw the gaps in the field. What they could have done is just look to build a partnership and stay at the crease longer, then even 180 was a possibility. There were quite a few batsman that could have capitalised on good starts.

Once we got onto the field, our two opening bowlers got taken around for quite a few runs. So I came on as first change when the score was probably around 40/0. First over...managed to bag a double wicket maiden. Both wickets came on an LBW that was plumb. A ball pitching around middle, leg and turning enough to beat the bat and hit pad.

Then, I got another two wickets and managed to get two batsman bowled. I couldn't get a 5fer because the game I ran out of runs to play with. : /. Last ball I bowled, which was the first delivery of my 5th over, I got carted for 6 to mid off.

In the end, I bowled with great control. No bad balls. Just stuck to the basics and concentrated on line and length. Probably the best bowling performance of my career. Managed to get 4 wickets for 20 runs from 5.1 overs. Here's the scorecard for both batting and bowling....

this is t20?

for some reason I always think you look like rangana herath and the coke can solidifies that image in my mind :)))

40 overs :)))

:)))

Club Cricket is legendary.

Btw when you are bowling do you set your own fields or does the captain help? Am not so good with those things, I usually set a legside dominant field to try and get the batsman to play the ball against the spin, am a leggie that mainly bowls googlies, top spinners and sliders etc although recently have lost control over the googly in the nets but in the games it always spins in sharpely. Anyway how does one improve their awareness with the field settings am not really good at that

Btw congrats on the 4fer :afridi

I've still not played a full season yet, when my exams finish I usually play a few games as a reserve and then take a month of beacuse of ramadan and return to play a couple of more games :))

My proudest moment was being selected for the prestigious Birmingham League, 2nd XI off my club. On my debut I bowled at the death, 5 overs for 25. Figures would have been a bit better had i not been hit for a 6 on the last ball of my spell. The following week my season came to an end when i suffered an injury during a training session :))) the rise and fall of shazzy bear

Depends. Sunday was our first cricket game of the season. When I came onto bowl, captain has already set the field for me. It was spot on. I didn't have to move anyone. Before coming into the game, I had a field in mind for a general batsman who will be attacking and look to be opportunist. By the time I got in to bowl my first over, captain already set the field perfectly.

It's up to you. If you don't like the field, then change it to what you think fits. You change your field depending on the situation. If the score is 120-0 after 20 overs and you're on to bowl, you'll probably want a couple or more men saving the odd boundary. If the score is 85-4 after 20 overs and a wicket just fell, you'd want to squeeze runs out and set an attacking field.

Since you're a leggie and you're a guy that seems to use the google frequently from what you've mentioned, I'd set a square leg, deep midwicket, short midwicket, mid on, deep mid off, cover, short cover, extra cover and point as you're field.

The more you bowl and get match experience, you're awareness will improve naturally. It all comes with practice.

Btw congrats on the 4fer :afridi

Hahaha.....that's good to hear.

I'm sure shazzy boo will rise again when he returns later this season to his throne.

:))) if that did happen ^, it would take the most stupidest captain in the world to keep me on for 4 whole overs.
