"My job is going to be to show everybody how good the Pakistani pacers can be" : Shaun Tait

Shain Tait press conference today:

It’s a nice and relaxed dressing room and an easy dressing room to come into. I’m slowly trying to get to know everybody. My job has been fairly easy so far.

I retired 5 years ago and I guess I’ve been progressing in the coaching world. I thought I had more to give the players and going down the coaching path was something I could do and be ok at. To be in a position to be involved in the Pakistan team is fantastic.

This 12 month calendar is the busiest it has ever been for many teams and Pakistan being one of those. I think with all 3 formats being played quite heavily over the next 12 months it’s a great time to come in. If I can help take the pressure off the fast bowlers by being there for them and helping them through the next 12 months, that’s probably a big part of my job.

Pakistan is known for some very good things and of them is producing fast-bowlers. As far as being a fast-bowling coach for a team this is as good as it gets. There is some great talent to work with. They have had quite a bit of experience but they are also very young. I’m just getting to know them this last week and find out how they tick. Going forward it’s going to be exciting and hopefully I can help them.

I don’t think Pakistan bowlers struggled in the 2 Tests. I thought they bowled quite well. It’s been tough-going for the fast-bowlers and it’s been a real grind for both teams and that’s the way sometimes it happens in tough fast bowling conditions. I’m just working through that with the players and moving forward to the next Test.

I’ve not been given a specific task. But I guess the main task is to keep the bowlers bowing well. Aggression was a part of the way I played my cricket and is something I can bring to them and their intensity and aggression is a big part of fast bowling.

There are no issues that stand out for me regarding Pakistan’s bowlers. It’s a very good bowling group. Chatting with people here and back in Australia, the talk is of how good this bowling group is. My job is going to be to show everybody how good the Pakistani pacers can be. In 12 months time if you guys see some results hopefully I can be a part of showing everybody how good they have become.

I’ve spoken with the fast-bowlers about general stuff and how their bodies are going after tough Test matches. I’ll talk to them about the usual stuff ahead of a Test match and their plans. I don’t want to focus too much about the Australian side, it’s about our team the way we are going to bowl and how we are going to tackle this Test match.

There’ll be some things going forward to work on with Shaheen. It’s a busy calendar and a huge 12 months. The main thing is to keep Shaheen efficient and keep his body up and going. If he’s near or around 100% fit and firing for the matches he plays he’s probably as close to the most dangerous bowler in the world right now. If I can help stay efficient and stay positive and confident in what he’s doing that will be a big support for him.

Does he need 4 years to do it just like Waqar Younis asked?

He should earmark 4-5 phaast bowlers and then PCB manage their workload most of our bowlers are alien to swing the new ball in ODI cricket so Tait should make it priority

Tait was a paint spray bowler, what is he going to do? Make Pak bowlers bowl faster? That's not gonna do much on low and slow Pakistani wickets.

Tough job on his hands.

Pakistan's pace-bowling strength isn't as good as it once was.

I don’t feel like he knows what he is doing. When asked in the interviews what his plans were and specifically what he would be doing his answers were very vague. I don’t know how he will help and don’t feel like he will.

You know what when Waqar was bowling coach the teams bowling had improved. At least Waqar is always willing to help and improve the Pakistan pace attack. You got someone like Wasim Akram who’s pride is so high who’s never done anything significant to help any Pakistan player ever

The team's bowling did not improve. Musa, Abbas, Naseem and Hasnain are in the same place they were when he started. Rauf and Hasan Ali still aren't settled all format players.

In fact the only improvement did occur in Hasan Ali when he was out of the side and made a massive comeback in domestics.

Waqar has never had a successful coaching stint and this most recent one did not differ in the slightest.

I watched the presser and it was either he has no plans as yet or more likely he didn't want to reveal them.

Time will tell.

Well most of them have also been playing franchise cricket, domestics and been to NCA where they've had exposure to other coaches than Waqar. It's upto the individual to improve, a coach can only do so much.

He was a great coach. When he was coaching the pace attack was regarded very highly.

But under Morne Morkel’s regime there has been a dip.

No coach in the world can improve the spray gun of Rauf. Throughout the entire tournament he has been ultra pathetic.

Finishing well is of no use when you start on the back foot. But getting patted on the back for returning 2/70 shows the management's and the captain's dhitaai and its epitome of zero accountability.

Unless we hire top tier coaches nothing will going to improve we try to look for cheaper options that won't work.
