Naseem Shah of Quetta Gladiators has been released from isolation in Lahore after he breached the protocols for departure from Pakistan by arriving at the designated hotel with a non-compliant RT-PCR test result. As such, the fast bowler will not be travelling to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on 26 May and is now out of the competition.

As per the Covid-19 protocols for the remaining HBL Pakistan Super League 6 matches, all those traveling through chartered flights from Karachi and Lahore were directed to assemble at the team hotels in Karachi and Lahore on 24 May with negative reports of PCR tests taken not more than 48 hours prior to arrival at the hotel.

However, Naseem presented a PCR report from a test that was conducted on 18 May. Upon submission of the report, he was placed into isolation on a separate floor before being released following a decision made by a three-member panel on the recommendation of the independent Medical Advisory Panel for PSL.

Babar Hamid, Director – Commercial and head of HBL PSL 6: “The PCB doesn’t take any pride in releasing a young fast bowler from its marquee event but if we will ignore this breach, then we will potentially put at risk the entire event. We appreciate Quetta Gladiators for accepting this decision as it confirms we are all aligned to strictly following and implementing the protocols.

“This decision will also send out a loud and clear message to all involved in the remaining matches that the PCB will not compromise on any violations and will expel the player or player support personnel irrespective of his stature and standing in the game if they are found to be flouting the prescribed protocols or regulations.

“All participating in the tournament must understand that these protocols have been put in place for the health and safety of all involved as well for the integrity and credibility of the event and the PCB. As such, the onus is on them to ensure these are followed in its true letter and spirit and without exception.”

Poor behavior from him. He should be banned for a year for this breach and only then our players will start taking bio bubble seriously.

Great news for Quetta; terrible news for other teams.

It wasn't a breach.

He didn't have the test at the right time and instead he had it a few days too early.

It stems from an issue in the communication between the PCB and him.

This seems exceptionally harsh. Why can he not join up with the squad a day or two later?

Well I guess the PCB's argument is that there are protocols and rules and they cannot make exceptions to the rules.

Looks like it was an attempt for fraud by him.

Maybe his later tests came as positive so an earlier test that he had done was submitted.

Anyways if you cant follow protocals than byebye. It takes one fool to jeoperdise the whole league

I guess it's a good thing for Naseem Shah won't gain much by playing in a circus. Should only focus on First Class & List A cricket.

This is what the PCB should have done in Feb, March when the PSL was being held in Pakistan and Javed Afridi should have been taken to hike

Just being used to set an example here.

Stupid decision, but could be good for Naseem. He should take the time out to continue to work on his game and prepare for first class cricket.

Nothing fraudulent about it.

A genuine case of misunderstanding and some mis-communication.

Hopefully he will learn from it.

Interesting point.

The difference is Naseem Shah can't threaten PCB that he will remove his franchise from the tournament.

How things change!

===

The second online meeting between PCB and franchise owners ended today

Fast bowler Naseem Shah was allowed to return to the bio-secure bubble

Naseem Shah will be sent back to isolation after pre-arrival Cove 19 test

Upon completion of BioSecure Bubble protocols, Naseem Shah will be eligible to depart for Abu Dhabi on the third chartered flight from Pakistan.

Biosecure protocols in Pakistan include a pre-arrival test, hotel isolation and 2 repeat tests.

Good to see the kid being given a chance after what was a simple oversight and nothing malicious on his part.

Why? Kicking him out would have given an example to the others and now it's just showing that you can break rules and be forgiven. He should have been kept out.

Sensibly handled. The PCB showing good common sense but they need to educate the players of the rules and expectations.

Very sensible approach. Firm yet sensible handling of the whole matter.

Poor stuff. Things like this are exactly why no one takes the PCB bio secure bubble seriously. Nadeem Omar must have threatened the PCB and forced them to pick him. This is exactly how the bio secure bubble fiasco happened in Karachi

I dont see a problem if he isolates, and is tested regularly. Rules have to be sensible, and fair. The PCB did the right thing

If he is the only one and its an innocent mistake as opposed to a deliberate one AND he is isolated AND tested negative - then where's the issue?
