Naseem Shah - don't write him off just yet

Three certainties of life:

Death, taxes, and Naseem “zero talent” Shah getting humiliated.

:)))

The kid should not be at the PSL.

I've said it before, he should be at the NHPC working with the coaches on his bowling.

He will learn nothing from PSL6.

Its the money factor and I dont blame him for that. Dont think he want to leave a lucrative T20 league to go back at performance centre to horne his red ball skills. Return on investment is too less for that. Even if he becomes a great red ball bowler, he would never earn the same money he would get from PSL.

So true.

T20 leagues aren't the places you go to improve your skill set. This is detrimental

I don't blame the player.

It's those managing his career at the Board that should be looking at this.

They should be looking at his long-term career prospects, rather than short-term gains.

They are damaging him, they are ruining his career.

The guy is a total mess right now. He looked bewildered at the time when the ball was handed to him as the concussion sub. Not sure who was concussed? Was it him or Russell?

5.6ft bowlers very rarely make it , infact most sena teams would stop a youngster pursuing a career as a fast bowler with a small height and tell him to become a spinner .

He bowls Gun barrel straight reminds me of mohd sami. Heck even Sami swung it a bit sometimes away from right handers

Very true, when you read notes on most SENA spnners, everybody aspired to be a pacer but then realized early on that they wouldnt succeed due to lack of height. Heck, even Sachin wanted to be a faast bowler but was dissuaded by Dennis Lillee at a fast bowlers workshop as a kid.

Well at least he has his pace back. Was getting up yo 149-150 kph last night
So he really was playing with an injury in nz.
If he makes it. It will be as an express pacer.

It is a World Cup and he performed brilliantly, but it was a team effort. Inzi singlehandedly kept us alive in that tournament and then went on to be an ATG player. Archers performance was not like say Starc’s in world cups nor was he the most important English player for their victory. So stop making it out like he’s done everything in his career just because he got 20 wickets in 11 matches and was lucky to be part of a strong team. Ferguson outperformed him and had it not been for dodgy umpiring and a boundary, archer wouldn’t have been on the winning side.

Naseem had unbelievable raw talent and ability. His bowling in that warm up match in Australia impressed everyone and had it been an easier debut / not affected by personal tragedy, perhaps his career would have started off differently. He showed that in his first series at home which was in more familiar conditions then the flag hostile decks of Australia. Yes the opposition was weak but it showed that he certainly has potential, like archer did.

And despite being shorter/ less genetically gifted, he is even quicker than Archer.

Jesus Christ the amount of garbage you have posted is unbelievable, I know you have a weird feud with other posters on here; fact is Naseem Shah has a long way to go at this stage am not writing the kid off but Archer has achieved a lot more right now, belittling his efforts which helped inspire our nation to a World Cup victory is incredibly stupid on a monumental level, and he could retire tomorow and be content, yes it would be premature but many would kill to have achieved a World Cup triumph and contributed towards it not just in the Final but during the tournament; get your head out your behind.

Still don"t get the point of dragging him along to the PSL.

I think PCB need to put the players first and not make them availlable for PSL if it's not in their best interests.

Money? and I think playing T20 leagues is not that bad. Archer became one of the better bowlers by playing in leagues around the world.

Perhaps if you had actually commented with substance instead of just waffling I could give a proper reply.

Again, I am not belittling his performance but you make it sound like winning a tournament for your team (through brilliant but not sole contributions) is the be all and end all of cricket. Had he done what Stokes did in this World Cup etc, then you could say he has really single handedly taken his team to the trophy. That’s not even close to the case. So one good performance doesn’t set up his career.

There are many plays who started cricket with a bang like Fakhar, Mendis, Hassan Ali but they will never got the hype that this guy does because he plays for England.

If he doesn’t play again, history should remember him as having one brilliant tournament then the award for being the most overhyped player over the next two years. When he is compared alongside the likes of Cummins, Hazlewood, Bumrah, Rabada LOL.

He is far closer to Naseem than them.

Archer is at a different level. He was playing County also.

At the moment the last thing Naseem needs is to be carted around in a T20 league.

I haven’t compared him to those names or suggested he single handedly won a tournament so no need to assume things like a nonce, the 2019 World Cup win was a prophecy which was fulfilled after laying the groundwork post 2015 humiliation. Starting your career with a bang is one thing but doing so in a World Cup is astronomical, I don’t think you can remotely grasp that unless you have personally tasted what it’s like to win the crown jewel of cricket but even then, it’s a World Cup and here you are under rating it big time and putting Naseem on a level playing field as Archer, I suggest you take a drugs test.

I have a lot of sympathy for Naseem Shah.

I know a lot of people are already writing him off, but already in his short career he has had to deal with a lot of things, some in his control and some out of his control.

There are things which have happened during his career that he hasn't disclosed and may never disclose, but such is the way with Pakistan cricket.

Some of the things he has already had to deal with include:

3 stress fractures
Problems due to growing pains
His mother passed away
Struggled after contracting Covid-19 in New Zealand

Yes he was picked too early in his career, but that wasn't his fault.

Yes he hasn't delivered what people expected of him, but were expectations realistic?

My concern is that he doesn't become another Mohammad Zahid or Mohammad Sami and falls by the wayside.

Whilst he says he is mentally tough and has the resolve to bounce back, I just hope that he can do it.

No one should write off an 18 year old with a test five for under his belt. Only in Pakistan eh?

I appreciate your use of big words but try and make sure they make sense in the context.

The 2019 World Cup win was a prophesy LOL? Ah yes, I remember the oracle who predicted it 75 years ago. A saviour from the Caribbean would come and England would ride his heroic bowling performance to win the tournament on the back of umpiring errors and a boundary count rule.

And because I haven’t personally experienced winning a World Cup I can’t grasp it? Have you?

Archer just got lucky he moved to a country which had rubbish limited overs bowlers and was able to find a slot.

1 game to play and nothing to play for.

They may as well give all the reserves and kids a game.

Naseem doing well so far.

Good to see such consistent pace from Naseem after sometime. As commies were saying injuries (Naseem have had multiple in his very short career) definitely effect the confidence of pacers and Naseem seems to be getting some of it back.

Decent first 2 overs apart from a couple of loose balls against KK.

Good pace too.

He needs a season of first class to get more consistency in terms of his line and length.

But the raw ingredients are definitely there and he’s young.

The most exciting of the young pacers Pakistan has and the only one who could challenge Shaheen if he takes his game to the next level.

Such a shame that he got cramp today and wasn't able to complete his spell.

It would have been interesting how he went in the last 2 overs, as he looked pretty decent today.

A 20 year old who is never fit. Should have stayed back in Lahore and worked on his fitness at NHPC.

Express pace in 47c.

Think.

Sorry MenInG, but that is even beyond wrapping in cotton wool!

Yes it's hot, but 4 overs after a long rest and rehab, regardless of pace should be very much doable for a young fast bowler.

Naseem needs to improve his fitness big time, or else he can kiss international cricket goodbye

Sorry if it appears like I am protecting him!

My point is that his forte is extreme pace and conditions were bad yesterday so lets make some allowance.

Anyone who feels joy at seeing a young bowler who is trying his heart out and failing needs to rethink their way of thinking.

Naseem is a genuine try hard cricketer not someone who trundles in for 5 games then turns it up when he feels like it. At the moment the biggest difference between him now and 2 years ago is the accuracy with which he was bowling at the stumps.

He needs good guidance and backing , so he gets his accuracy and belief back again. Look at Haris Rauf , Lahore have recognised that he needs to bowl after pp has finished, yet Quetta keep forcing him to open the bowling.

T20 , especially in this Quetta side is the last thing that will help him regain his confidence.

Well said. Our sporting pubic dont understand these things.

Showed great pace but he needs to build stamina and power before making his comeback in the national side (alongwith domestic performances ofcourse).

Whatever the conditions. It's worrying that a young athlete could not bowl more than 2 overs due to cramp.

How many young athletes in the world can bowl 145+? Let alone in the searing heat and humidity.

He’s clearly in good shape and could have fielded all day, but to bowl extreme pace in that heat, early in the day is tough. Especially when you’ve not played much competitive cricket for a while.

I watched the recording, there is light at the end of tunnel for the young man and his pace is back. Whether it's back consistently is the question and whether he develops a nous for taking wickets will be the question.

So England won a WC on pure luck and Archer was fortunate to find a slot in the team, so this explains why England won the tournament and why Archer was in the top 3 as a leading wicket taker and also England’s best bowler in the tournie :yk2 you must truly have some special needs. These feats can only be belittled by a village idiot. I suggest you take a drugs test again when you belittle these special accomplishments and even worse when you try to put Naseem on a level playing field as a player like Archer and world championship team in England, even worse at present when Naseem is having the worst time of his career and bowling like a Jobber

Saj if possible do ask him what the issue is with his fitness

Not on pure luck, but that had a major say on the final. You’d be an idiot not to acknowledge the effect of umpiring errors and the boundary count rule coming into effect. However they were still the best team overall in the tournament in those conditions. If you take our Archer and put in most other decent bowlers, England still would have won.

Again, good use of personal attacks. Did you have another prophecy?

I thought apart from the first delivery and wide (2 deliveries) has was brilliant with Pace, swing and line. Should have had Sharjeel but Azam Khan dropped a dolly and could have had Babar with a brilliant out swinger. He could be brilliant with a few FC seasons...lets see. I'm not writing him off

That’s exactly it. He has all the raw ingredients to be a brilliant player. He is far far from that now and should be toiling in domestic cricket for a while but to write him off is ridiculous.

He does not need to written off he just needs to be left alone to learn his art in domestic cricket for next 3 years.

What sort of player management do they have in Quetta?

Management that needs to make some tough and unpopular decisions. Whether they are capable of doing that or have the guts to do it, remains to be seen.

Forum363 you make it sound like your old man could play in England’s set up and contribute to a World Cup win just like that

Perhaps not, but the likes of Wood and Plunkett who got less wickets but played less games, or even Wiley could have filled in and it not made a difference.

Did archer actually win any games for England apart from just contributing like other players? And don’t mention the super over where he couldn’t defend 15 runs against an out of form Guptil and Neesham LOL.

Hypothetical assumption that again to berate and belittle a terrific cricketer, Jofra is not expendable for England and thankfully we don’t share such a bigoted view. Jofra was terrific during the tournament and had a better average and economy then those players, numbers never do his impact justice, he is difficult to score off and creates pressure which supporting bowlers can take advantage off, in any case you do overlook him being one of the best performers in the tournament and he delivered throughout and in the KO stages when it mattered.

So all that waffle but the answer is no, he didn’t win any games for England. Just bowled well and kept it tight…

At least you’ve accepted something. Congratulations.

It’s a world cup and he was in the top 3 leading wicket takers, trying to take that apart negatively is like to trying to take your head out the behind, just not possible is it. Archer inspired all of England’s wins largely, such was his impact and then he helped us seal the deal in the super over, Naseem in comparison gets smashed by street cricketers in the PSL and you sing his praises from genesis to revelations :))

Except he didn’t seal the deal in the super over.

He couldn’t defend a massive 15 runs against a completely out of form Guptil and Neesham. That was a failure and he was saved by a random boundary count rule otherwise he’d be the villain.

Naseem is out of form right now but where is Jofra? Oh yeah injured again.

As far as am aware NZ didn’t win the super over by scoring more then 15, boundary rule or not Archer in fact sealed the deal for England, but his performances in the entire tournament were incredible, Stokes failed in the past in a similar situation and he came back, Archer would have been backed regardless. Yes he is recovering from an injury as a World Champion who is valued highly by his team who utilise him frequently while Naseem has been getting smashed to bits and pieces.

I’m certain Naseem could have defended 15 runs against Guptil and Neesham in that over, with that much pressure on the batsman. Archer bottled it when it counted and got lucky, that’s all.

He is valued highly by the team… because he’s the most overrated cricketer in history. Posters like you and Mamoon seem to think he’s achieved everything there possibly is in cricket but doing well in one World Cup.

You keep saying he was in the top 3. So playing the most matches and getting the third highest wickets in one World Cup automatically sets up your career? No matter how rubbish you are for the two years after.

At least Naseem doesn’t have an attitude problem like Jofra. Breaking rules, putting peoples lives at risk and giving moody statements when questioned on his rubbish performance.

Naseem Shah has signed a deal with an English County for this summer which will see him play in the T20 Blast and also a few County Championship matches. He might also play a few 50-over matches if he's not required for international duty.

NOC received.

Playing in county championship will improve Naseem’s game.It will be good if Hasnain can get a deal with a county or even a good club.In the good old days many top West Indies cricketers used to play in Lancashire league.

That's great, young man has lots of potential but still raw, this will be a very good experience for him.

Could well be a career changing move to experience County cricket.
