Recap of Day 2:

PAK 342/3 (87.5 Ovs) • BAN 233
Day 2: Stumps - Pakistan lead by 109 runs

====

Centuries for Shan Masood and Babar Azam, and a fifty for Asad Shafiq set Pakistan up for a strong lead on day two of the first Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.

While Masood fell right after reaching three figures, ending a third-wicket stand at 112, Babar kept going. He added another unbroken 137 for the fourth wicket with Shafiq (60*), finishing unbeaten on 143 at stumps on Saturday, 8 February. The top order easily overhauled Bangladesh's first-innings total of 233, extending the hosts' score to 342/3 and their advantage to 109.

Bangladesh, who began the morning promisingly, getting the wicket of Abid Ali for a duck in the second over, were deflated as the day went on. They were made to rue their missed chances, including a drop of Babar soon after lunch, when he was on 3.

After Abid fell chasing a wide delivery, Masood and skipper Azhar Ali saw out the new ball, combining for 91 runs and lasting for most of the first session. The opener imposed himself without taking risks, driving beautifully on his way to a brisk half-century in just 54 balls.

However, having done the hard work, Azhar allowed Bangladesh back in a few overs before lunch, edging a wide-ish one off Abu Jayed to the slip fielder.

The visitors could have enjoyed a firm hold on proceedings if Ebadat Hossain at mid-off hadn't fluffed Babar's catch. Babar, who had looked scratchy till then, stepped out to Taijul Islam, only to miscue the shot and ending up slicing it to the fielder. He recovered well, though, taking over the attack even as Masood slowed down.

Masood reached his third Test century in 157 balls late in the second session, before a lapse in an otherwise disciplined innings saw him depart three balls later. It gave Bangladesh another ray of hope going into tea, but that too was diminished as Babar upped the ante.

The No.4 showed off his range, reaching his fifth Test hundred with a boundary behind square. A six over deep mid-wicket off the new ball was added to his 19 fours, and with Shafiq contributing eight boundaries of his own, runs came easily.

The final session yielded 136 in 32.5 overs before poor light brought an early end to the day's play.

Need to bat till 45 mins after tea. Hopefully get a lead of around 300 + and put Bangladesh in

what an anti climax, Nazar lga de sab ne , kal se thread pe thread jo bna rahay thay, babar this babar that.

Mustafiz was far better. All 3 wickets were gifted by our batsmen.

No mustafizur is a nothing test bowler. No skills other than slower cutters

Jayed can get movement both ways. Miles better than mustafizur for tests

Watching Abu Hayes for the first time and he is GOOD.
Ottis Gibson has a good prospect to work with.

Another wicket is gone.

353/5.

BD can come back to the game if they can get Pakistan out quickly.

Shafiq choker gone!!! This guy can only play from mid 2nd session. Any movement he is like walking wicket.

Hahaha

since last 2 days pakpassion was bombarded with threads regarding Babar Azam being anointed as a batting great and it took just new bowl some movement on the 5th stump line and he edged it, his very weakness known and utilized by all top teams.

As I was typing another mental midget Asad Shafiq gets dismissed we are back to 2013 thanks to Misbah on our home soil.

Shifiq was never that good to start. Babar has potential but to be successful in test has long way to go. We batted really poor this test so far and we were lucky it was BD bowlers otherwise we will not score even 200 against good team

Babar Azam is not a technically good player, he has been protected by the team management in Tests where they changed his batting position several times down the order so he somehow avoids the new bowl.

Bangladeshi bowlers have been wayward mostly, whenever they hit full on 4th to 5th stump line Pakistani batsmen themselves edged to the slips. Bangladeshi also are awful with usage of the reviews. They had Babar Azam and Shan Masood earlier, Masood edged one to the keeper both keeper and bowler were absent-minded at the time never reviewed. Bangladesh is not a great team but the Misbah's TTF players will give them a chance.

Exactly!!!!

I just realized Pakistan have an untested tail. Naseem and Shaheen have the opportunity for batting practice.

He did face new ball against the best attack in the world in Australia(came after 4.4 overs), and scored a hundred in the first test

The most important stat for a player outside Pakistan
Did Pakistan win, or lost that match by an innings

Shafiq has also done a lot of 100s where Pakistan lost. Useless 100s that don't help the team are not valued by anyone.

I am gutted that Bangladeshis didn't appeal for that Haris catch. Are they deaf or what?

BD needs to put a fielder in deep cover for Haris. It can stop the boundaries and also tempts him to go for the drive.

Rubel has ensured that his bowling average doesn't increase further. What a bowler!

Haris knowing the tail is exposed now has started playing shots rofl and get some runs to keep his placein the side

When he was needed to play shots to ease pressure on the other batsman he was blocking most of the deliveries.

This is why this is the most pathetic XI under Misbah. Every batsman plays for himself than the team.

Yasir can bat. He probably should be considered as a low-key all-rounder now after his century in Australia.

Meanwhile Ebadat is trying to do that also. He has picked up a solitary wicket, approaching century.

Haris seems to be fluent against Rubel. He was struggling against Jayed and Ebadot.

Time to put a tall left armer in our line up, Shariful, any thought? I am Keen how he does in the final against the mighty Indians

Why is Rubel still bowling? Brainless captaincy from Mahmudullah.

His current spell: 4-0-24-1.
