Great woman and great actress. Just watch her interviews. So smart

It’s weird seeing this after watching “The Professional” earlier today.

For starters, she was a teen in that movie.

Then I searched her up and found out that she was Jewish and had firm beliefs in wanting to raise her children in Israel, which is normal.

And just a few hours later, she states this quote.

Good for her. It must be sad for many decent Israelis and Jews to see the bloodthirsty actions of the Netanyahu government unfolding as they are. Israel seems to have about as rabid a Zionist government as it ever has done at the moment.

well finally is all I can say. There are alot of analysts who say Israel is loosing favour amongst American Jews. This is a massive step from Portman.

There goes her Hollywood career.

Though lets face it, this is a stunt.

If she really cared, she'd be helping the Palestinians in some way or another!

I think that’s really unfair for you to say this is a stunt ?

Remember Israel is like her second home and she was going to collect $2 Million dollor cheque !

How many celebrities refuse that kind of money, especially a
country close to their religion and roots but have refused ?? Very very few.

My respect for her has gone up so much, no should question her because it takes tons of courage for her to do so.

Remember she may have alienated so many of her fans in America and Israel especially but she stood up regardless. And waved away the dollars staring in her face.

I wish more people in the Middle East and South Asia would do the same in similar situations. But they don’t when talking is easier than taking action.

I believe that there is massive hypocrisy on both sides.

Netanyahu is a thug of a leader which is why there is such a narrative against him in recent times.

But Netanyahu's personal faults/attitude doesnt diminish in any way the fundamental right of Israelis to have a homeland which is a view what some blind pro-Palestinians folks tend to not grasp.

Similarly, Netanyahu's actions doesn't negate the fact that Palestinians groups such as Hamas engage in terrorist activities. They are ill-equipped compared to Israel which is why it is such a mismatch but that doesnt take away the point that they do engage in unsavory acts. People need to recognize this as well.

The intensely pro-Israeli folks do not accept the negative repercussions of Netanyahu's actions. However in recent times there is some acceptance by Jewish people in this regard such as in the case of Natalie Portman here. Similarly, the pro-Palestinian folks also engage in a reductionist narrative where 'Israel=EVIL, Palestinians=Angels,' eventhough this is just not true. The pro-Palestine group needs to have a similar reawakening..

You make it sound the conflict is equal.

The homeland Israel wants is not within International law so they have no fundamental right.

On topic, good on Natalie.

You've been asleep the last 100 years I guess, the state of Israel was established by terrorism by the likes of the Irgun underground whose leaders later became leaders of Israel. European jews have no right to a homeland created by killing and dispossessing the people living in a land jews ruled 2000 years ago. That's like saying North Africans have right to a homeland in Spain where their rule was more recent than the Jews rule of Palestine.

Surprising to see since she has a strong connection to Israel. Though it's good to see some celebrities wake up and smell the coffee.

There seems an increasing disconnect between American Jews who overwhelmingly vote for the Democratic Party, and Israeli Jews who have elected the most right wing government in their history.

There are some good pro-Palestinian Jewish groups overseas like J Street but the pro-peace Left in Israel seem very weak right now. Very large majority of Israelis according to polls supported the recent Gaza shootings.

Historically most Jews have seen both sides of the Israel-Palestine debate and polling has always suggested that the majority of Israeli Jews / Jews elsewhere want to see a peaceful two-state solution, however nowadays aside from the Progressive wing of Judaism (Reform, Liberal etc) the Zionist message amongst Jews feels stronger than ever, Jews inside and outside of Israel (less so in America, shamefully moreso in Britain) seem to be really into Zionism and right-wing nationalism at the moment. Netanyahu’s best mate amongst the world leaders is Trump and Israeli Jews seem to be lapping this up.

#Metoo

Lots of A-list celebs refuse that kind of money. Actors in particular, the are offered Million to play a role, and turn it down for various reasons.

Certain publicity is priceless.

Zionism was rejected by almost all Jews when it emerged esp by the head Rabbis inc the Rabbi of Jerusalem. In WW2 many of these Rabbis were killed and those that survived accepted Zionism in the form of a state in Palestine out of fear and after witnessing the horrors the Jews faced. Todays Zionists are either extremist Jews or those who claim to be secular Jews, the orthodox for the most still oppose Zionism.

Who knows maybe in a couple of decades the majority of Jews might turn against Zionism which will help peace prevail but even if they do the Christian Zionists wont.

MK Oren Hazan (Likud) slammed Israeli-American actress Natalie Portman's decision not to attend the Genesis Prize ceremony in Israel.

Portman, who was set to receive a $2 million Genesis Prize, recently announced her decision not take part in the prize ceremony in light of "recent events" in Israel which she claimed were "extremely distressing" to her. She added that she "does not feel comfortable participating in any public events in Israel" and "cannot in good conscience move forward with the ceremony."

It is not clear whether she will still receive the prize money.

"From the outset, the idea of granting the Genesis Prize to Natalie Portman was complete craziness," Hazan said. "[She is] a Jewish Israeli, who on the one hand cynically uses her birthplace to advance her career and on the other is proud of the fact that she managed to avoid enlisting in the IDF. She's an actress, but she is unworthy of any honor in the State of Israel."

"Sweetness can come from strength: I call on Interior Minister Aryeh Deri (Shas) to rescind Portman's Israeli citizenship. She left Israel at age four, and has no real connection to the State."

Meanwhile, Culture and Sport Minister Miri Regev (Likud) said, "I was very sorry to hear that Portman fell like a ripe fruit into the hands of BDS supporters."

"A Jewish actress, who was born in Israel, has joined those who see the miraculous success story of Israel's creation as a 'story of darkness.'"

They call themselves a democracy but are quick to demand she is stripped of her citizenship.
