National T20 Cup | Match 9 | Balochistan [230/4] beat Southern Punjab [214/6] by 16 runs

Khushdil Shah is surely one of the best hitters of cricket ball in Pakistan

Khushdil with 22 runs off Kashif Bhatti’s over

Khushdil favours that legside heavily when attacking the pacers.

Gets lucky as Imam drops one in the deep.

There's a fair bit of competition for top order spots for Pakistan's white ball teams with Sharjeel Khan, Shan Masood, Imam-ul-Haq, Zeeshan Malik, Zeeshan Ashraf, Haider Ali, Ali Imran and Fakhar Zaman if he regains form. Babar Azam is obviously guaranteed one spot.

The middle-order remains problematic though.

Shan Masood finally gone, Akif Javed with the breakthrough.

And yet they keep feeding him middle stump/legstump deliveries. How smart are these players?

That is why these players are a hit in domestic, but not that impressive in international cricket.

Finally Aqif bowling some outside off deliveries and Khushdil struggling straight away. Got lucky with a few edges.

Ifti over this hack any day of the week
Hacks are players like Asif A, he has good strokes and he scores more runs than Ifti. Ifti had couple fluke matches for Pak in Australia, and despite chances in all format has been useless.

That was an awful umpiring decision. It was a clear no ball. The third umpire took an age to reach the decision and still came to the wrong one. Match changing decision

Ifti over this hack any day of the week

Guy averages 47 in List A with SR of 99 and 8 100s, so harsh to call him a hack. Ifti is a good hitter as well on his day and provides better option in bowling so thats why he gets a go more often than not for that hitting position.

Pretty good bowler to have for middle overs in LOIs with him hitting good areas more often than not. He can ball decent yorkers and does have slower balls but sometimes execution at the death isnt great. I think he deserves a go in LOIs for his bowling and hit hitting ability, fielding and fitness is a bonus. He was pretty close I think but then again some death over struggles in PSL 2020 prevented that I think.

Ammad should be tried out in the coming series against Zimbabwe in both formats along with Khushdil Shah.

Knowing PCB and Misbah they'll pick Imam, Haris Sohail, Rizwan, Kashif Bhatti, Shan Masood and the others.

This lineup should play t20s vs Zimbos...

Balochistan recorded a 16-run win over the luckless Southern Punjab side to gain two valuable points in the ninth match of the National T20 Cup for First XIs on Sunday evening at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Southern Punjab’s poor run continued in the tournament as the Shan Masood-led side crashed to their fourth consecutive defeat, they are languishing at the bottom of the six-team points table without a single point in their kitty. Balochistan on the other hand recorded their second win in three matches; they now have accumulated four points.

On Sunday, Shan fought hard with Khushdil Shah in a 103-run alliance for the third wicket in pursuit of the 231-run target. Left-armer Akif Javed accounted for both to settle the deal for Balochistan as the asking run-rate went beyond Southern Punjab batsmen; they finished on 214 for six in their 20 overs. Both left-handers (Shan and Khushdil) scored 72 runs each, Shan’s innings came off 42 balls and included three sixes and nine fours.

Khushdil’s 72 included four sixes and seven fours, he faced 34 balls. Sohaib Maqsood was the only other batsman to offer some resistance scoring 20 runs off 15 balls with the help of four fours.

Akif took three wickets for 35 runs to spearhead his side’s bowling attack. Umar Gul, Amad Butt and Kashif Bhatti took a wicket apiece.

Reflecting on his performance man-of-the-match Imam-ul-Haq said: “As openers we were losing wickets at the start in earlier games, it is my responsibility as an international player to score and perform. The pitch was a bit slow at the start but I decided to spend time on the pitch and that eventually helped me very well. We didn’t have a target in mind as such as we wanted to gauge the conditions, Haris and Bismillah helped me stay at the pitch, we then aimed for 180-190 runs but the late flourish in the innings helped us get past the 200-run mark.”

Balochistan won the toss and opted to bat first on a batting friendly pitch. They posted a mammoth total courtesy a blazing batting performance led by man-of-the-match Imam-ul-Haq and some sloppy bowling especially in the death overs by the Southern Punjab bowlers.

Imam scored a scintillating 94 off 54 balls, the left-handed opener hit four sixes and 10 fours in his stroke-filled innings.

Imam shared a dazzling 97 runs partnership in a mere 42 balls with his captain Haris Sohail as Southern Punjab bowlers lost the plot in the death overs. Haris smashed seven fours and two sixes in his 53 that came off 27 balls.

Amad Butt provided the icing on the cake for Balochistan by scoring a whirlwind unbeaten 22 off 7 balls (two fours, two sixes) as 43 runs were conceded in the last two overs of the innings bowled by Hussain Talat (21 runs) and Bilawal Bhatti (22 runs) respectively.

At the start of the innings wicketkeeper batsman Bismillah Khan scored 39 off 23 in an 80-run second wicket partnership which laid the foundations of the eventual Balochistan total.

Scores in brief:

Balochistan 230-4, 20 overs (Imam-ul-Haq 94, Hairs Sohail 53, Bismillah Khan 39; Hussain Talat 1-35)

Southern Punjab 214-6, 20 overs (Khushdil Shah 72 , Shan Masood 72; Akif Javed 3-35)

Result – Balochistan won by 16 runs

Player of the match – Imam-ul-Haq (Balochistan)

Good squads. I would personally let Akif play domestic cricket for atleast one complete season. Amad Butt can be brought in as well, a good accurate pace in the middle overs, impressive athlete and decent lower order hitter.

The SP team have so much potential but they are floundering like no tomorrow.. I think they are struggling from a severely underpowered bowling line up. IIRC they have made a good fight of 2-3 targets of 200+ just marginally falling short each time. It makes sense that they are conceding 200+ in most matches the have people like Hussain Talat and Bilawal Bhatti bowling in the death. I wouldnt even have people like them in my gully side. I thought the new domestic format was supposed to weed out the poor talent. Anyways Baluchistan deserve the win even though I dislike their side for having so many has-beens and oldies..if they are performing and winning then we can't take it away from them.

Some of these teams seem to be very batting heavy to me, meaning that bowling line-ups struggle and many decent players are batting 6 7 or even 8.

Khushdil favours that legside heavily when attacking the pacers.

I’ve been saying it for some time now. We need data analysts (stats nerds) at every level of Pakistan cricket.

Currently, the only team in any domestic competition that employs stats adequately is Multan Sultans. No other PSL franchise nor any of the domestic regions do their homework.

It was most obvious in the international side when we forgot to bowl bouncers against Chris Woakes. The difference between a series victory and a series defeat, the first series victory for Pakistan in England in god knows how many years, was a competent Rs 100,000 salary data analyst.

Every one of the 6 regions must have an analyst in their ranks doing the math on the opposition. The long term vision should be to work towards absolute degrees of precision the way CricWiz operates.

Bowlers will get smarter, and batsmen better. It will transform our domestic cricket in a flash.

Don't know about the domestic teams but our national team had an analyst named Talha Butt in the tour of England. He was often seen sitting in the dressing room with a laptop in front of him.

But is he competent enough? we don't know.

Who else thinks that Akif has gained quite a bit of pace this season and is as quick as Shaheen and Rauf these days.

If there were speed guns I am pretty sure his top delivery would come as in top 3 quickest delivery and his avg speed has considerably higher than last year as well.

Akif’s action seems a little jerky, I wonder if he sorts that out he can crank it up an extra yard or two.
