Siddique has sustained multiple serious injuries and has been admitted to the Lilavati hospital.

Nationalist Congress Party leader Baba Siddique, 66, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Mumbai’s Bandra East on Saturday evening, news agency ANI quoted the Lilavati Hospital as saying.

Siddique had sustained multiple serious injuries and was admitted to the Lilavati hospital. The local police and crime branch officers have launched a hunt for the shooters, who escaped from the scene.

The former Maharashtra minister and three-time Bandra West MLA had quit Congress in February this year, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, and joined the NCP led by deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. His son Zeeshan is the Bandra East MLA.

Siddique is also known for his annual iftar parties, which are attended by leading Bollywood stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Sanjay Dutt.

This guy is a Bigshot and an influential Minister in the area where many Bollywood Celebs live. His iftar parties are attended by Bollywood Biggies hence get a lot of limelight. I am shocked.

I hope he survives and Mumbai is not back to the days of Underworld Gang Wars and Shootings.

RIP and Om Shanti. From the looks of it, he seems to be a nice and pretty friendly guy.

Who Was Baba Siddique? All You Need To Know About NCP Leader Shot Dead In Mumbai

Former Maharashtra Minister and Ajit Pawar-led NCP leader Baba Siddique was shot dead in Mumbai on Saturday evening.

As per the preliminary information, three to four people fired two-three rounds of gunshots at the NCP leader outside his MLA son Zeeshan Siddiqui’s office near Colgate ground in Nirmal Nagar, Bandra (East). He was immediately taken to Lilavati Hospital, where he died shortly after arrival.

“Two to three rounds were fired. Further probe is underway as teams have rushed to the area,” news agency PTI reported citing an official.

Siddique had received a death threat just 15 days ago and was provided ‘Y’ category security.

Who Was Baba Siddique?

Baba Siddique, originally from Bihar, joined the grand-old party as a teenager. His political career began as a teenager when he joined the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), which is the student wing of the Indian National Congress.

Shortly after, he was elected as the Municipal Corporator in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. He served as an MLA from Vandre West Vidhan Sabha Constituency for three consecutive terms in 1999, 2004 and 2009, and had also served as a Minister of State for Food & Civil Supplies, Labour and FDA.

He pulled a big switcheroo in February this year when he resigned from the primary membership of the Congress and joined the Nationalist Congress Party led by Ajit Pawar.

Reflecting on his departure, Siddique remarked, “My condition in the Congress was like how curry leaves are used to enhance the taste of food. I was treated like that in the Congress Party.”

Siddique’s son, Zeeshan, served as a Congress MLA representing Mumbai’s Bandra (East) assembly constituency, however, he was expelled from the party in August for alleged anti-party activities.

Siddique, also known as Bandra Boy, was known for his grand Iftar parties which were attended by top Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.

Siddique was also credited for ending the high-profile rift between Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. As per the reports, both the superstars were involved in a heated argument in 2008. After the incident, the duo avoided running into each other at big events. However, In 2013, the feud came to an end at Siddique’s Iftar Party which was attended by prominent personalities in the industry. Both the Khans came under the same roof after a long time and hugged each other and ended their half-a-decade-long beef.

Despite his limited connection to the film industry, his ability to bring two of its biggest stars together after such a bitter feud cemented his place in the entertainment world.

Kaafi do numbri tha. He & his son were big wannabes, but had mafia connections. His reputation was well known.
I've been out of Mumbai for a couple of decades now but back then, he was known as a low level gangster and powerbroker who used to hang around the fringes of the film industry.

Surprised he was shot now. Had become increasingly irrelevant over the last decade as the film industry corporatised and the Congress shrank in relevance in Mumbai.

Lawrence Bishnoi's name is surfacing once again. Is he the 'damaad' of the BJP? Has he become more powerful than the Prime Minister of India now? :inti

Surprised at this turn of events. Mysterious assassinations have plagued Pakistan for years. In a country where organising traffic has proven too confusing for local administration, shooting dead political figures was the one thing which always seemed well co-ordinated. I wonder if this will also remain unsolved depending on who the victim is?

Plz pray tell what this person's ideology has been without googling. 🙏

Baba Siddique murder accused's families claim no contact, one was out on bail

Gurmail Baljit Singh, the 23-year-old accused arrested in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, was out on bail in another murder case for which he had served time in jail, according to his family in Haryana's Kaithal. The family stated that they had no contact with him for a long time.

Relatives of Gurmail's co-accused, 19-year-old Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich, also claimed that they were unaware of his whereabouts and had been out of touch with him.

Gurmail's grandmother, Phuli Devi, who lives with the accused's younger brother, told India Today that he was in jail for a murder case in 2019. Three months ago, he was released on bail and has not contacted the family since then.

"When he came home, he stayed for just a few minutes. I had gone out for some work, and by the time I returned, Gurmail had left," she said, adding that "he had not maintained contact with the family and did not come home for any festival or family function".

Gurmail was the only son of his father. After his father's death, he and his mother lived with his uncle's family. The grandmother recalled that Gurmail had been fighting since childhood, which led to his eviction from their home 11 years ago.

Meanwhile, Rajesh Kashyap's mother said that he had gone to Pune for work in a scrapyard and had no contact with him.

She said, "He went to Pune to work in a scrapyard. That's all I knew. I was not aware of what he was doing in Mumbai... He came home for Holi, but after that, he did not return. He wasn't even talking to me on the phone, so I cannot say anything about the incident. He is around 18-19 years old".

The mother of the third accused, Shiv Kumar, who is at large, also said that he used to work in Pune. "He used to work in Pune, he had not come home after Holi. I got information in the morning. I have not talked with him in the last 8-9 days. I don't have information about where he is right now," the mother said.

Former Maharashtra Minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique was shot dead near his office in Mumbai's Bandra on Saturday night. Gurmail and Kashyap told the Mumbai police that they belonged to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. A member of the same gang, in a social media post, claimed that the Bishnoi gang was behind the murder and hinted that the leader's links with Bollywood actor Salman Khan were a reason behind it. A third shooter, Shiv Kumar, who is also from UP, is still at large, and a manhunt has been launched.

Bishnoi gang has becoming a menace just like Laalu he has become bigger since being jail.

Exactly, why take out someone that is easy.. he was a gangster but has been irrelevant

I thought gangs are a thing of past in Mumbai. Looks like they are still going strong there.

I didn't mention anything about his identity either. Do you think it's important?
I guess some politicians deserve to be shot and some don't.

As a Pakistani you won't be able to understand which one's deserve it India.

My interpretation of his questions.

Some recent deal gone wrong is my guess. A couple of newspapers are reporting he went to the cops for more security a few days back.

Nah...gangs in Mumbai are like the background noise of the city. They're not as visible as they were when I was growing up there - supremely powerful in protection rackets, land grabbing/construction and Bollywood but they're still omnipresent. They've just shifted to gambling and drugs as real estate and Bollywood went professional.

One thing is that like in many big cities, you don't run across them unless you go looking. When I was in my teens, they were a lot more brazen and visible. Everyone knew who the controlled the local area and extracted hafta.

Gangs are a thing of the past in Mumbai?

Gangs are not a thing of the past even in many first world countries, so it’s unrealistic to expect them to disappear entirely in a city like Mumbai, regardless of its billion dollar mansions.

Indians do live in a bubble.

I have never been to Mumbai and we only used to hear about Dawood Ibrahim, Chota Rajan and Chota Shakeel back in 90's.

While gangs exist in every major city around the world, I am surprised that they still wield so much power in this day and age.

Surprised, are you? I’m honestly more surprised that you’re surprised gangs still hold influence in a developing country. But then again, I suppose the Indian media’s rosy portrayal can be quite convincing.

"Those Who Help Salman Khan...": Lawrence Bishnoi Gang's Warning After Baba Siddique Killing

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has not only claimed responsibility for the murder of Baba Siddique but also threatened that anyone who helps actor Salman Khan, near whose house it has already fired warning shots, will be in its crosshairs.

Soon after Mr Siddique, a three-time MLA and former Maharashtra minister, was killed near the office of his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique, in Bandra East on Saturday night, speculation began swirling of a Bishnoi gang link to the daring crime. This was confirmed on Sunday after a post on Facebook by one Shibu Lonkar, believed to be Bishnoi gang associate Shubham Rameshwar Lonkar, claiming responsibility.

In the post, Lonkar claimed that Siddique had been killed because he was linked to India's most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, was close to Salman Khan and because of the death of Anuj Thapan, one of the arrested suspects in the shooting outside Mr Khan's house, in police custody.

Thapan was found dead on May 1 inside the Mumbai Crime Branch lock-up. The police had said he died by suicide but his family had claimed he was tortured in custody.

"We do not have any enmity with anyone but whoever helps Salman Khan and the Dawood gang, keep your accounts in order ('hisab-kitaab kar lena')," Lonkar wrote in Hindi in the Facebook post. Police said they are verifying the authenticity of the post.

Siddique was known for hosting lavish parties and a five-year-long cold war between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan was resolved at his 'iftar' party in 2013.

Police sources said at least two celebrities have been attacked by the Bishnoi gang for their perceived closeness to Salman Khan since last year. Mr Khan visited the hospital where Siddique was admitted after he was shot on Saturday and also went to his residence on Sunday.

In November 2023, shots were fired at the house of Punjabi singer Gippy Grewal in Canada's Vancouver and the Bishnoi gang had said it had done so because Mr Grewal had praised Mr Khan and treated him "like a brother".

Mr Grewal had said he had only met the actor twice.

In September this year, shots were fired near the house of another Punjabi singer, AP Dhillon, in Vancouver. Rohit Godara, a notorious member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, had said the shooting was the handiwork of the outfit. The firing occurred after Mr Dhillon released a video of his song 'Old Money', which featured Salman Khan.

They were bigger than corporations before, even the Tata’s were at their mercy.
Things changed Corporations are bigger than gangsters in Mumbai now but this particular Gangster organisation is not based in Mumbai(the one involved in the killing).

Have to agree with you. Indian cities and India have no future. All these rosy portrayals are to keep Hindutva supporters happy. (y)

The deobandis other than ashraf thanvi etc have always seen themselves as part of hindustan and its only really the bohras who have 'fought back' since partition including the Mumbai killings.

Seems like the gangster industry is another that has been nationalised and institutionalised.

Bohras in India have always been Nationalistic, they cannot be institutionalised because they see themselves better off than all other institutions considering the wealth and education they have accumulated.

They have been the only Muslim community openly pro-Modi.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun.

Will BJP posters here condemn it or will they make excuses?

This has nothing to do with BJP...I know your record stops there. However, every sensible person should and will condemn it.

Baba Siddique is killed by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi who has connections with Khalistani gangs in Canada. The same gang killed Siddhu Moosewala and also vowed to kill Salman Khan. Though Lawrence himself in in jail, his crime company is rampant now all over Bollywood. It is very similar to how D-company and Dawood Ibrahim was back in the 90s where most Bollywood producers had to pay them tax before releasing a movie. Those who denied, like Gulshan Kumar, was shot dead or had close calls like Rakesh Roshan. Atleast Lawrence is in Tihar Jail facing life sentence where as Dawood is still protected by ISI as guest of honor.

LAWRANCE BISHNOI is like dawood ibrahim. Indian govt commmits crimes, and than blame these ghosts that dont even exist.
Dawood Ibrahim doesn’t exist? Does Javed Miandad doesn’t exist either?

exist as in committing crimes to the nature that india loves exaggerating.
What India exaggerates? Let me give you an example: Haji Mastaan was a gangster big one, India never exaggerated his role because he didn’t indulge in terrorism , Dawood did.

Baba Siddique left congress to join NCP-Ajit Pawar. They are allies of the BJP.

And here people who have no idea are blaming BJP.

All exaggerations. Haji mastan, the same guy who has been portrayed in bollywood.

The indian govt carries out illegal crimes and that use these fictional characters as the people behind, thus eliminating suspicion.

Like if you are gonna believe that some guy called Bishnoi is killing evryone in india, than i rest my case

When i met Lawrence long ago, i had no idea what he would become. Thankfully i didn’t become part of the gang culture in Panjab University. Things were always pretty bad.

How was he when you met him? Did he gave you any impression that one day he will become a gangster?

I have had interactions with the majority of the student leaders in PU from the 2010s era and a lot of singers, writers some of whom have become superstars now. Students politics in Punjab was never about students rights but about gaining political influence, creating gangs, milking that political funding from major political parties to have parties and all. They used to ask me to join them but i saw their reality soon enough. So many of the guys died so soon. So many guys never returned home and became gangsters or jobless wannabes.

Why the killers not arrested yet, and isn't the same gang that was behind Sidhu's murder?

Lawrence Bishnoi is admired by some extreme groups and andhbhakhts in India, who wrongly believe he is like Bhagat Singh and will get rid of the country's enemies. They don’t even know he is in jail for a cross-border drug smuggling case. He is trying to fix his image by going after Salman Khan. :inti

Baba Siddique Murder: Wine Shop Owner From Haryana Link Between Mastermind, Shooter?

The 11th accused arrested by Mumbai Police is suspected to have helped with logistical and financial support to alleged mastermind Mohammed Zeeshan Akhtar, who is still on the run

The Mumbai Police claimed to have established a key link between one of the shooters and the alleged mastermind with the arrest of the 11th accused in the Baba Siddique murder case.

Police identified the 11th accused as 29-year-old Amit Hisamsing Kumar, who was nabbed from Haryana by the crime branch on Tuesday evening (October 22). He was brought to Mumbai on Wednesday morning and remanded in police custody till November 4.

According to police, he helped with logistical and financial support to Mohammed Zeeshan Akhtar, who is still on the run and is suspected to have masterminded the NCP politician’s murder. His role in the crime came to the fore during the interrogation of other accused in custody. He was involved in planning the murder and its execution, they said.

Police said this could be a breakthrough in the case as he is an important link between Gurmail Singh – one of the shooters in custody – and Akhtar, who in turn is the common link between the shooters and murder conspirators.

Could this be related to this same issue?

The high-profile murder of a Punjabi rapper, repeated death threats against a Bollywood star and the killing of a Mumbai-based politician earlier this month — all are alleged to be the work of one of India's most feared gangsters, Lawrence Bishnoi.

The latest addition to that list is the RCMP's claim that the Bishnoi gang is targeting members of the pro-Khalistan movement on Canadian soil, allegedly at the behest of the Indian government.

The RCMP's assistant commissioner Brigitte Gauvin name-dropped the Bishnoi group last Monday during a stunning news conference in which the Mounties outlined allegations that top Indian diplomats were engaged in criminal activity in Canada. Gauvin specified that investigators believe the gang is "connected to agents of the government of India."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also made the explicit connection during his testimony at a commission investigating foreign interference last week.

He stated that diplomats collected information on Canadians who were "in disagreement" with the government of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then passed that information to "the highest levels" of the Indian government before it was directed to "criminal organizations like the Lawrence Bishnoi gang," ending in "violence against Canadians on the ground."
