Some background info to start. I bought my first car in my second year in December 2017. A Ford Fusion Sport 2010. Overall really enjoyed it even though in terms of maintenance and mileage it wasn’t the best. It’s currently parked at my cousins place in Toronto.

So once I graduate and go back in a few months, I plan on selling it and buying another car. My budget is up to 15000 CAD. The three cars I’ve shortlisted are (ignore the colour. I just selected random pics) :

2013 Ford Mustang

2014 Dodge Charger

2013 Chevrolet Camaro

Provided that all 3 have decent mileage and are in simile condition, which one would you say I should opt for? Also, if you have any other suggestions for a single young guy, I’m open to those as well.

Interesting post. I'd love to advise but unfortunately muscle cars are just not a thing in the UK. All because our roads are too narrow. Very rarely would you see one of those on the roads here.

North American based posters here will definitely provide a solid recommendation.

All of these cars look beautiful. Good luck with the search and subsequent purchase.

Wait you are getting your education in Pak while you're originally from Can?

No. I’m originally from Pak but went to Canada for my education. I’ve been back home in Pak since March 2020 because of COVID

They're all equally good. These are like the most common muscle cars most 20 something guys in the suburbs drive. I'd personally choose either the camaro or mustang

Mustang may have some after sale value. The rest are a total pieces of junk.
Look at the price different between Cobra and Saleen vs the base Mustang model.

Lol is this phenomenon present throughout the states?

I was also thinking the same thing but I'll include single men in thier 30s too..

No dig to the Op but seriously this is exactly the kind of car a young guy in the suburbs would drive..

If a sample was conducted it'll come out as 9/10 tbh

yeah bro always been like that down south lol

You can get a Ford Mustang for 15000 CAD ? :43:

My word, cars are cheap in Canada!

I'd go for the Mustang. Driven a few Chevrolets and Dodges but never liked them.

Yank motors are pants.

Get a German car or an English car.

German cars are associated with middle age white collar type uncles that live in the suburbs, until then american muscle is the better choice while you're single.

People buy Mustangs (not the latest one's of course) with the money saved up from odd jobs too (like the younger guys)

North America is cheap in general, US is even cheaper

As long as we ain't clubbing we good with boring cars

Tbh most people I know just save up for the down payment and then get good a car note with low payment and very low APR, builds credit and you don't blow like 10k of hard earned blue collar cash lol. I know a lot of guys doing ride share or other side gigs to make those payments.

Didn't say they were making the smartest decisions but it is within people's capability to make that dumb decision

Do you live in the sticks?

Try BMW M series, Mercedes AMG series, Audi RS or any Porsche. American cars cant compete with these brands. Those who buy American cars in the UK just because they are big as laughed at here.

American cars in general are not the most highest of quality

They try to do to much

Of course they would be laughed at

With those streets it's hard for a damn bicycle to pass through forget an American car :))

Nah I live in a big metro area, bigger and more relevant than most cities in the UK lol. I know about those cars, they're nice and all but what I mean is that those cars are mainly driven by middle aged people here, perhaps because young people can't afford them but the ones that do usually prefer something more exotic.

Land/Range Rover, Bentley, Royal Royce, Aston Martin, Jaguar , Lotus and others.

So they're not even in the market for average consumers

They shouldn't even be in a conversation like this they're all high end

It's Jap, German's, American or to some extent SK cars that should be discussed imo

The roads are fine here, please use some logic we have large trucks, buses etc using the same roads.

In the countryside we have bending lanes. I drove American cars, things have vastly improved recently but they arent really made for corners, which true driving is all about.

Which English cars are decent? I drove a Ford years ago, it was pretty crap. German and Japanese cars you can't really go wrong. No idea about American models, they aren't really popular here are they?

I’m ok with American cars. Had no problems with my Ford Fusion over the few years that I drive it. Felt very smooth and comfortable.

Also, I will obviously be able to test drive once I go back. Not just going to buy something blindly

Fords are rubbish but its an American brand.

Overall for all reasons, power, luxary, on road, off road, the GOAT of all is the Range Rover.

You never stated a budget :inti

How much are those 3 cars in your OP?

All the cars he listed are on average ~$15,000, also based off the 1998 in his username, OP is like 23 so he likely doesn't have the money to spend on a rolls royce.

It looks better than camry when you role up in the club
That's all that matters tbh :steyn

I haven’t gone clubbing since first year. Mindless parties are not really my thing. For me the only purpose of going clubbing would have been to very easily get girls and there’s many more ways to do that. Not really buying any a car in order to impress women tbh

Ah ok, I forgot about Range Rover. I almost bought one recently but just couldn't get past the electric window controls being located right under the window instead of on the inside door. Put me off getting a Jaguar F-Pace as well as they are the same manufacturer.

My bad, thats around £9000.

You're not going to get a great car in the UK for this but depends on what your main purpose of use is. You may get an Audi A5 not too old, great cars.

Yeah Audis are great, have one now, the dashboard is a bit plain but the drive is just fantastic.

My experience is American cars are absolute filth

I really don't like tham

My family had american cars but they switched out and are happy but I am stuck

These American cars are like 90s masala film's too many things but no real substance

Too many features but none of tham actually work, go for a Jap car for reliability

Didn't say they were making the smartest decisions but it is within people's capability to make that dumb decision

yeah Americans love credit. I also don't get why people get a car lease, seems like a waste of money.

So you are looking for a decent reliable car? Not much for show sha

Than imo you're looking at the wrong cars, you should look for Toyota, Honda or something even a 2012 lexus or something

But for swagger those cars are good not gonna lie...

F Pace is incredible , the sound it produces is very sweet. I agree the buttons are a bit too close to the door handle and the console isnt as wide as one would like.

In Canada these cars are on average 15000 and may even be slightly cheaper in 4 or 5 months which is when I’m going back from Pak

Losing money on cars after a few months is never nice.

Have you considered lease hire? You can thrash the car and dont have to worry about selling it when you go back.

Exactly, build muscle don't buy muscle :apology

I guess I worded it wrong. The swagger, style and looks do matter to me but the purpose isn’t to get women.

Let me explain why. On one hand it is already very easy for me to get something short term so I don’t need a car to help. On the other hand, if I am looking for a serious relationship and the girl ends up dating me because I have a certain type of car, then that girl is not worth dating. Hope that clarifies it

Mazda's are pretty good if you are prepared to go for a Japanese car. Might not have the street cred for a young lad though, but they are well put together.

Of the three I genuinely prefer the Mustang... but sounds like these are all used purchases so you have to look at the overall conditions, mileage, defects and all.

Just don’t get the Charger... you are asking for a world of hurt with that one.

In the US German cars are cool. I used to have a BMw coupe before I got married. They are really popular with American twenty somethings too.

what's wrong with charger?

Idk man, I don't see a lot of young people driving beamers or benzs over here, I think Teslas are more popular in my age group

well perhaps I am from a different generation. I never said mercedez s popular. I was talking specifically about Bemers. Also Audis are a fairly popular choice amongst young professionals in the States. Tesla is more of a recent thing, I believe so maybe I am not caught up, quite honestly.

That's the issue with jap cars even the high end ones

OR if you have CAD 20,000 cash to put as down payment and get a 2013 Corvette for around CAD 50,000.

Personally I love the 2014 Class of Dodge Chargers, and am very happy to see someone considering that as well. I think after they changed the design of it in a massive overhaul last few years it looks like just another family style sedan. The 2014 one looked badass and rivaled the Challenger in terms of aesthetics.

Ofc it featuring in a fast and furious film helped. I’m a bit biased but would choose that over Camero which I’ve always thought looks ugly as hell.

I personally like the newer models of Mustang more, or the pre 2000s era Mustangs (though they are an antique atm and very expensive).

So yeah I pick Charger 2014 which is a rare breed these days. I saw a beautiful one in a bronze shade which Imo is the best color scheme for it.

Just my input aesthetics wise. No idea about specs etc.

DO NOT do this OP absolutely NOT

If you're not earning a steady and are a student any kind of big purchase is terrible for you don't take that risk

yeah that was a ridiculous suggestion :))

if i was spending around 10 grand and didnt have to consider parents, family, etc id buy something like a early 2010s 4 series. something like this...

Gotta love them. I’m planning to get myself another one in a few years hopefully. Nothing like a BMW

Word of advice:
Save your money, put down a deposit and buy a property.
If you already own one then go buy your next one.

I think bmws are overrated but then again I guess it's cause I associate it with people I know irl that I don't like

I see your point. Some of these luxury car owners are pretentious b********** no doubt. I have been driving Toyotas for a few years and I’m quite happy with them, because my family considerations were different. But some people will never compromise and always have to have a luxury car. Haha.. I hate that type myself.

That’s a good advice... but I don’t know if 15 grand can get you anywhere in Canada with the current housing market. It’s insane these days.

Why dont you be a good desi boy and get a Honda Civic 2017/2018 and have a reliable jap car on your hand. Better if you can put in some more and get a crossover SUV - Hyundai Tuscon is my choice (beautiful car).

But if you really wanna go the muscle car route, then mustang and camaro would be my choice.

Dude, the OP is loaded.
Parents send the pappu to Canada and they are probably paying a high tuition fee reserved for international student, and yet he still has CAD 15000 to shed off, after lodging and boarding expense.

Let him go for it.

Yeah I didn't think about it, the int turion is crazy high too
It makes sense tbh... :dhoni

But for most people they should never do something like that unless they're decently middle class in north America

He may be rich but I think he mentioned he's a Canadian citizen or about to be in an earlier thread, so he would be paying the local rate. Rich people in Pakistan aren't stupid, they won't blow money on international tuition, most have dual nationality or at least get scholarships and TA in order pay the local rate if they're international.

I am not loaded at all by rich Pakistani standards. I have a Canadian permanent residency so I pay domestic fee. I probably would have gone to university in Pakistan if I didn’t pay domestic fee. This Canadian 15000 is after selling my current car for around 5000 combined with my own money that I saved up working a summer job last year in Canada. Not good to assume things. Alhamdulillah I come from a well to do family but not loaded by any means.

Many of my friends from Pakistan are paying international fee and it’s an absurd amount. Scholarships at top universities are also extremely difficult to get and none of my friends got them even though we all had insane grades etc

Plus all the rent money I saved being back in Pakistan for more than 12 months now

Maybe it's different in Canada but most of the Pakistani internationals I've met at my state school were on scholarships, in fact scholarships pretty common here in the US, I know some that go to expensive private schools like that are also on full ride scholarships, you have to write a good personal statement, being a Muslim woman also helps especially in STEM or or some social science field. Also if a lot of internationals become TAs which reduces their tuition rate to in-state.
