Manchester United have completed the signing of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea for £40m on a three-year deal.

Matic, 28, becomes United's third summer buy, following £31m defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica and £75m striker Romelu Lukaku from Everton.

United manager Jose Mourinho described Matic as a "team player" who has "everything we want in a footballer; loyalty, consistency, ambition".

Matic said he was "delighted" to be joining at "an exciting time".

The Serbia midfielder added: "To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn't turn down.

"I have enjoyed my time at Chelsea and would like to thank the club and the fans for their support. I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and to start training with them."

More to follow.

Good deal for both clubs. Chelsea getting 40 million for a 29 year old and utd getting a player that jose knows and he'll free up pogba.

Decent signing for Manchester United. A trio of Herrera-Pogba -Matic looks very balanced and has all basis covered. If Manchester can get another LB and another winger, they are serious contenders for the premier league imo. JM knows how ti win, he's sorted out the spine of his team and will know how to adjust his tactics/team according to the opposition. He always improves performance in his 2nd season. Would be suprised if this season isn't any different.

Fuming that we've allowed United to have him, when we could have easily used him in a deal + cash for Sandro. Instead, we've satisfied our fetish for selling to rivals. Mata, Sturridge, Cech and Matic are all examples of it. Who cares if we get £30-40m, we don't need the money and it's not like we're spending massive amounts compared to the profits made that we need to sell to satisfy FFP rules. Ridiculous stuff by the board and I won't be happy unless we get Ox/Sanches/Roberto and Sandro/Telles. If our board are not smart enough to do the swap deal, then we should atleast see that he's a fantastic player and we should keep him until his contract runs out and keep him in our plans.

Man I'll miss this guy. Very versatile player. Especially because he was lefty. With that being said, Matic-Kante midfield was to one-dimensional and Fabregas-Kante is a better option, albeit a bit riskier.

Solanke too ...

We have the stadium costs to worry about, Roman is more than willing to fund for it, but its good the club are looking to rely on him very little. So far this season, we have a positive net spend and we have'nt even sold Diego Costa yet.

The team has been severely weakened, you can't go into a CL and PL with a squad of only 14-15 experienced players.

Solanke I'm not going to blame them for, I doubt they could have honestly stopped him from going when he wanted more game time and he wasn't going to get it because (at the time) Costa, Bats, Traore and even Tammy looked to be ahead of him in the pecking order.
