Netflix cancels House of Cards/Kevin Spacey court proceedings

Feels like thats how it happens in real life. Kevin Spacey is indeed a legend.

And Russo man... never do sharaab.

Also, all 13 episodes released at once? I don't usually mind the week long wait so it does kinda take it away from being a "TV show."

Been ill all weekend and decided to watch this show. One of the best decisions I've made! Outstanding show and great acting from Kevin Spacey.

House of Cards!

Watch the original British show while you're at it. It's on Netflix streaming too.

i saw this many months ago, really liked it, i think spacey and his wife are excellent. cant wait for the second series

Its really not as polished as the US version. The BBC version is more like a teleplay. And the writing and acting is a tad better as well in the US version. The character of the druggie for instance is one that is much better played in the US version by Corey Stoll.

But Ian Richardson is just stunning. I'm a big Spacey fan and he was flawless in this series but Ian Richardson was just something else as a slimy politician. Defintely much more of an anti-hero than Spacey who's just too charismatic to really hate.

Just finished watching it. I like how the Brits focus on the main plot and don't delve into unnecessary side stories and sub plots.

Ian Richardson was fabulous as FU. "House of Cards" was great. "To play the King" was good. "The Final cut" was mediocre and best left unseen imo.:asadrauf

FYI, one of the actors on House of Cards is a prominent Ahmadi... happens to be a great person and excellent basketball player as well.

The best new show of 2013 for me, whats surprised me is the lack of hype it got in the media. All the media outlets were hyping about Under the dome, Masters of sex and The bridge being the best new shows for he year.

Enjoyable Series. Also one of Obama's favorites. Apparently they say the show Scandal is equally good if not better

I watched both HOK and Scandal. Kerry Washington is fine looking lady. Cannot wait for season 3 of scandal to come on Netflix.

Another good show on political stuff is The West Wing. Netflix have 7 seasons of The West Wing on stream.

House of Cards!

Season 2 was released on the 14th. I watched it for hours on end, until all 13 episodes were done.

Binge watching: the latest thing.

You saw it all! I envy you sir.

Plan to watch it soon. I usually try to savor shows like that. Will watch only 1-2 episodes at a time.

Just so you know, there are two hot aunties this season: not just Robin Wright (Mrs. Underwood) but also Molly Parker, as House Majority Whip Jackie Sharp.

Ooh la la !

Speaking of hot aunties, have you seen the series Spartacus. Check out Lucy Lawless in it. Mamma-Mia! Hotness personified.

Be careful though. Not to be watched around family. The series itself is quite gung-hoish. I just watched it for her.

I'm supposed to be busy, but somehow managed 7 episodes in the last 3 days. I need to slow down or it will be over for another year!

That's the problem....my last weekend goe on HOC, it's addictive. Kevin Spacey....you sir are made for role of Francis J Underwood.

Would you believe it, they've removed it from Netflix streaming. I'll now have to sign up for the DVD plan.

spartacus was legendary tv for many reasons and lucy lawless was certainly one of them :)

Great viewing, very well made although it does get quite unrealistic towards the latter part of season 2.

Just finished watching the final episode of season 2, two words for it, decadently delicious. Much better and far superior story line, acting, character development and elements of suspense than season 1. If this doesn't win the Emmys, I'm not sure what will. Kevin Spacey was made for this role and plays it brilliantly. Good to see the husband and wife as a team than at odds with each other, giving their characters much more depth and making it more macabre than it would have been otherwise. Power, greed, manipulations, mind games, this show is opium for any political junkie. This season has such Shakespearian elements to it, the thirst for power and the absolute brutal pursuit for its attainment, it's like a Greek tragedy unfolding in front of us. Needles to say that this show is highly entertaining and addictive. Interesting choice of directors also, most episodes including the final one directed by James Foley of the "Glengarry Glenn Ross" fame, in which Spacey played his first major role as the much abused manager of that fateful real estate firm. No wonder Spacey asked him to be in control of his pet project which is sure to land him in the league of legends like Pacino and DeNiro. Masterful stuff.

I wasnt a Spacey fan until I watched HOC.

The only complaint I had with the first 2 seasons was that they portrayed Walker as a very soft character who just becomes a puppet in any tough situation.

Im sure you dont become an American president without being a little clever and pragmatic :zardari

Just binge watched 2 seasons of HOC. Watched the whole thing in 6 days haha. Must be some sort of record.

And is it just me or does Adam Galloway (the photographer) look a lot like Dale Steyn???

Currently (binge) watching this show. Extremely addictive. The opening soundtrack too lol.

I binge watched it in one night in February, the night after it was released. Can't wait for Season 3.

what do you mean? all eps came out together?
Yeah all Netflix shows do that. All the episodes are released in one go. Orange is the new black, arrested development season 4, The Killing season 4, house of cards all got similar treatment.

Damn.

I'd just got over thinking about missing the show. Seeing this thread makes me me want season 3 to hurry up and get released!

One of the best shows going at the moment. Easily. I remember sitting and watching through two seasons in three days. Good times. :yk

I haven't seen the new season yet, but just wanted to say that Kevin Spacey is a fantastic actor, among the very best of our generation.

Season 3 was a real disappointment for me, wish I hadn't watched it now.

surprising.

ive seen 4 episodes and it definitely is exciting and has me hooked.

I would they they have maybe bit a more than what they might be able to chew in terms of so many storylines taking place together but nothing to indicate that its a big disappointment

on another note. how the heck did you manage to watch the whole season in 3 days?

Season 3 had great moments but the bigger picture was a bit tame by earlier seasons' standards.
Meeting in Jordan Valley, father's grave scene, first speech about AmWorks, the separation, etc
But I guess he couldn't make those cunning moves as president, he's been on the defensive, with everyone gunning to take him down.

Enjoyed the first episode of season 3, very good. House of Cards deserves more hype, it's that damn good. I miss Peter Russo and his gf :(

This season has been a disappointment. Underwood still plays power politics, but it's almost like he is conscientious, and isn't doing anything outright shady. He's almost statesmanlike. I'm not done with the whole season yet, but it's no match for the first two.

Will definitely try watching the third season as soon as I have a bit of time on my hands.

Because he is the president now, the blame for his actions and the actions of his representatives will fall squarely on him.
In season 1 and 2 Walker was always the fall guy for underwood's hanky panky stuff.

Still, he could've been like Nixon. Or Clinton. Engage in some blatant corruption. Suddenly all he's interested in is "a legacy," as he keeps saying.

Bloody hell how did you manage to watch it so quick! cool avatar btw :))

I just finished watching the first episode

Watched 5 episodes on fri night, and the rest over the weekend - sad I know. I think that ruined it for me a bit.

Don't get me wrong it's still worth watching - I suppose what I meant was 'I wish I hadn't watched it so quickly now' :))) - it's just not as good (for me) as the 1st 2 seasons.

very disappointing season, did not take the story forward at all.

Putin rip-off president was more comical than menacing.

What the whole season 3 is out I am still waiting for it on Netflix.

The fact that you kept watching shows they must be doing something right it's that kinda show which you can afford to binge watch, actually i might have done what you did for seasons 1 and 2 might have watched them in like a week or two but in the summer :)))

OMG watching the second episode now, just saw the weirdest thing ever! the bit when Frank was sobbing and what happened after :))) :))) :))) I can't believe what I just saw. He was in a better mood a day after though wasn't he :afridi

Just completed waching the 3rd season and what a lackluster season this turned out. Some episodes were so slow and all over the place that had to skip through it. First 2 season were fantastic by any standard and this season was the complete opposite also by any standard.

Reluctantly entered the thread because I haven't watched season 3 yet and was afraid of spoilers. Glad no one has spilled the beans and I would request in the future also to not give away any plot twists or put it in the spoiler tag if really want to.

Sad to see disappointing reviews so far. In any case, still plan to watch it. The whole premise with Underwood now in the Presidents role is too inciting to not explore.

Btw, is anyone else here a fan of the shows theme song and opening credits. It reflects the whole theme so well. DC with its monuments and statues and govt. buildings with gargoyles perched on top watching the whole scheming manipulating corrupt and power hungry show on display. The music capturing the facade of civility and order on top, revealing the evil designs encompassing the whole city like a swamp full of treachery and lust for power. The shows logo with the upside down flag just finishes the whole sequence with such precision and accuracy. The themes excellent use of strings and modern instruments just holding the whole thing tightly together. I don't know if Fincher had anything to do with it but his fingerprints seem to be all over it. Simply brilliant.

I will watch the last three episodes tonight, just to get it over with. Hopefully next February will usher in a better one.

Just watched the first two episodes. Looked good to me.....not sure what the fuss is all about or what was the expectations. I've noticed though in previous seasons of HOC's that the middle episodes do lag and and get drawn out a bit but the last few episodes make up for it. I expect the same here.

Big fan, Cani. I'm gonna watch season 3 over the weekend so simply ignoring all the posts in this thread. Hoping for another season filled with smug Spacey moments. :))

finished it.

don't like the direction of the show

Exactly, am glad you feel the same way I was just about to reply to your post and say that I think the season has been great thus far (watched up until episode 6) don't know why people are complaining, the fact is most people binge watch this show and nothing has prevented people from skipping an episode or not watching it all together (if they really find it that bad) it's evidently addictive even for the people that are moaning.

Disappointed by this season. Season didn't move forward and Frank didn't achieve anything worth mentioning as the president. All his shrewdness fell apart as soon as he got the office.
Claire's role was weird too. Don't understand why would he leave Frank now when she stood behind her during all the murders and manipulations.Claire having sudden piffany about morality was weird too. After what they both had done.. the Suicidal death of that guy in Russian jail was nothing!

Season started off well but nose-dived after 6-7 episodes.

Is it just me or was Spacey's voice off this season? He sounded like he had just recovered from a cold.

The final episode, which I watched last night, was a return to good form. Let's see what the next season brings.

Exactly!

I don't get the binge watching craze at all. I try to savor each episode. Did the same with Lost. Most I'll watch is two in a row. Plus I can never find the time to watch more than a couple of hours anyways. Last night I was up till 3 to watch the first two episode. Anything after that would have been me watching while dozing off. The new season comes out once a year anyways, what's the rush.

Terrible season. A big let down from the previous ones. Don't no what they were thinking with one unnecessary conflict after the other. By the middle of the season the show almost had no resemblance to the previous seasons. I also agree to the point about Frank's voice it seemed he had a cold towards the latter part of the season.

Definite drop in quality but I still found the show to be quite enjoyable. The finale was poor compared to the other two seasons though. Also, Claire was one of the few female characters that I've actually liked in ANY tv show, as usually they're absolutely intolerable (Skyler White/Tony Soprano's wife).

That certainly changed this season. She wasn't half being unreasonable was she?

I usually listen/watch it. And even if i am in a hurry i must get some taste of the opening. It tunes me up for the drama like a key does to an engine.

Have watched 4 episodes now and so far so good. Really liked the Russian President's character. From the posts so far looks like that's where the show starts to take the turn for the worse....

Exactly. Like a preface to a book...preparing you for the dive into the world of Frank Underwood.

I watched up until episode 8 or 9 so far , out of all of them the only one I didn't enjoy was episode 6 or 7

Watched Season 3, pretty good.

Like Season 2 the best so far though.

What the hell was up with Frank and Thomas on that couch??

Underwood is Bisexual. Remember in season 1 he visited the Sentinel (his old military school) to meet old friends and it was hinted that he had a relationship with one of them. Then in season 2 what he got up to with his wife and bodyguard pretty much confirmed it.

I find that the show has been in freefall in terms of writing after Kate Mara's death. It just seems increasingly stereotyped and simplified which may be a consequence of Frank having more responsbilities. Season 3 is just an extension of season 2 in that it feels the writers have an end result in mind and they will do anything to get there even if it means dumbing down every single character and having a lot of deus ex machina.

Rumors circulating that the next season will be the last as 13 more episodes will take the total number of episodes to 52; the same number as a deck of cards. The directors have avoided any comment on this.
