Absolutely love it... the whole show is based on 2 rooms and a handful of characters, but it keeps you completely intrigued and involved.
 
In some ways they tried to copy GOT and LOTR in this new Netflix original show called The Witcher but IMHO this attempt was a big failure even a big name like Henry Cavill as lead role wasn't able to save it. I don't know how the show still managed have a 8.6 rating on IMDB after 130k ratings.

It has a cult following based on graphic novels and a video game. I watched it, found it to be OK. Multiple timelines were a bit confusing to follow at times.
The producers tried very hard to refute similarities to GoT & LOTR during their interviews.
 
Watching my first ever series on Netflix - The Witcher. Love it. Initially I had some questions over why certain characters were behaving a certain way but later learnt that - this series essentially follows its parent - the novel/s.

It has a high rating because most people are impressed by visual gimmicks and monsters, same as they are impressed by superhero movies. I've seen 4 episodes so far, and while it is watchable, I'm not finding myself hooked.

The GOT/LOTR comparisons are a bit tiresome. Those shows had a lot of depth even without the fantasy and wizadry. The Witcher has no memorable characters so far, although I think Cavill has done a stand up job as the Witcher himself.

I think this show will appeal to the type of folk who liked Lara Croft in Tombraider because of her tight t-shirt and shorts.

I've watched 2 episodes so far.

It appears though there is only 1 series with just a few episides?

The series is based in 4 countries with 3 episodes each, i,e Criminal UK (Germany, France and Spain).

Germany was quite good (nothing that mind blowing though), UK at the number 2 spot was OK although *******/girls were gushing and over hyping Tennants performance for some reason, France and Spain make up the rest of the series with not that memorable installments.
 
Has anyone watched 'Men in high castles' on Amazon Prime. Thinking about starting it soon.

It's "The Man In The High Castle" and its about what would have happened if the Axis, i,e Germany/Italy/France had won WW2. The first season is really good, the second better but it starts going downhill from there on.
 
Just watched "London has Fallen".

An alright movie. A lot like the previous one.
They somehow made this about America too.

Royal TV drama The Crown has failed to make Netflix UK's top 10 list of its most popular releases of 2019.

The streaming giant's top 10 includes Martin Scorsese film The Irishman, Stranger Things 3 and After Life.

The top spot went to Netflix's documentary about the disappearance of three-year-old Madeleine McCann in 2007.

But series three of The Crown did not make the list, despite being nominated for a raft of Golden Globe awards.

I've started watching 'Breaking Bad' last week. Into Season 5 - a very riveting series this. Cant wait for the denouement.

Probably like Prison Break. Started with a bang and then went downhill. But the concept is truly mind blowing about possible outcomes if axis had won. Will start watching that soon.

Olympus has fallen was much better than this one. I would rate it at 4/10 and the former easily at 7/10

Completed the UK episodes which were really good. Started now on the French ones which are also very good.

The concept of it is really appealing.
 
Glad to learn that "The Witcher" became the most in-demand streaming show beating "The Mandalorian". Actually learnt that quite a few fans are from the fans of the 'The Witcher' books and also the through the popular Witcher video games. Apparently 'Witcher 3' video game is one of the best video games released in the last 5 years.

No question that Netflix will do a second season. There's already a tremendous positive buzz around 'The Witcher'.
 
Messiah released yesterday, just started watching it. Only 3 episodes in but looks interesting so far
 
Also, second season of Lost in Space was a bit of a bust for me. Doesn't really give you the same feel as the original. There really aren't that many good Sci Fi shows on these days.
 
Also finished watching the second season of You. I thought it was okay, I mean it kept me interested but starting to get a bit repetitive. It's decent but its no Dexter.
 
Kingdom: 8/10 , A bloody great South Korean miniseries, a better and scarier zombie show than anything Hollywood has produced so far.

The Witcher: 2/10, An utter disgrace, an absolute and diabolical mess of things. A brooding one dimensional musclebound protagonist with a supporting cast consisting of largely unknown actors with very questionable acting skills. A pretentious script and amateurish execution.

Was really disappointed. Lot of plot holes. Still managed to do a decent job. Was able to guess most of it tbh. Hope S3 is better!

Finished Ghost Stories last night. Total disappointment IMHO. Only Dibankar Banerjee's story had some nuanced parallels with reality. Karan Johar's one felt like another addition to Darna Mana hai, and honestly I did not know what to make of Kashyap's story. Also liked the juxtaposing of Crows in the stories!
 
Watched 1st episode of season 1 of "Peaky Blinders". It caught my attention as apparently there was really an urban street gang with the same name at the end of the 19th century.

It looked interesting to me.

Still got two episodes left of The Witcher but don't know if I should bother. The sex scenes are spectacularly bad. I would describe the show as a sort of medieval James Bond, the sort they used to make back in the days of Sean Connery where the women couldn't but help throwing themselves at the suave and studly 007.
 
They removed Frasier yesterday to keep their garbage original shows and movies.

With a few exceptions, Netflix originals are barely watchable.

Peaky Blinder is one of the best crime drama ever. The lead acting talent of the later seasons is just unmatched. Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy and Adrian Brody..3 of the finest new age actors trying to outact each other, stealing scenes and shitz is something i would gladly pay my hard earned bucks to watch.

Cavil's horse in the show acted better than most of the lead cast.

Have you seen boardwalk empire? Very similar just looks and accent difference.

Only reason I kept seeing peaky blinders was coz Hardy , iconic character.

Yup, HBO rarely disappoints. I would recommend Deadwood to you if you haven't watched it already.

Boardwalk Empire is in a different league in my opinion. Peaky Blinders was watchable, but for some reason I never really got into it enough to continue watching past the first season and a half.

I beg to disagree. I find BoardWalk better written while Peaky is marginally better acted. Both are of similar level with Boardwalk being a slightly better show. I would Place Sopranos, the Wire and Fargo in tier one of the crime drama genre. Boardwalk Empire, Peaky Blinders, Breaking Bad and the Shields belong in tier two. Just my opinion though.

Ozark is a top show sadly there was no third season in 2019 so waiting for 2020.

Westworld and Better Call Saul also had no seasons in 2019.

If you look at the trailer only, then yes

But if you actually watch the series then it's ambiguous. The last scene really flipped the series on its head. It looked like the guy was a fraud but the last scene of the series made you think otherwise.

In the trailer, they made it seem like the guy just disappeared from the prison cell but actually he was let out by one of the guards.
A bit of a spoiler sorry.

There were also a few twists as well in the storyline some predictable ones.

Fargo season 4 too is scheduled to come out this year. You can check it out if you are into dark comedy, it is the best of its kind. Very dissapointed with West world though, has the potential to be an epic series but turning out to be another convoluted mess.

I was really impressed with Jason Bateman, it was kinda sad seeing him always portraying the same unlucky beat up guy with a awkward sense of humor on screen. Good to see him finally utilizing his potential, always knew he got the range and versatility.

Peaky Blinder goes on repeat mode, Boardwalk E is defn better for me as well.

Surprising that inspite of it being English and in Birmingham you didn’t get into it.. I keep watching it just for sake of it.. but it did have a good s4 with Adrien Brody , guess Italians vs Irish/English with Jews thrown in the mix is watchable..

Yea he is doing a great job as the lead role in this show i believe his character in this show will see an evolution similar to Walter White from Breaking Bad.

It is criminal how little known Fargo is even among TV nerds. Good to see a fellow Fargo fan. I loved the original movie too. BTW this season will have Chris Rock playing a major role, not too hyped about his acting skills though.

Just finished it, it's interesting till the 6th-7th episode but went all Pete Tong after that. Could've done with a couple of lesser episodes with tighter editing as it tends to drone on sometimes and the ending (the whole final episode) in my opinion while open ended was quite underwhelming.
 
I am so glad that I watched the entire "Breaking Bad" series in a span of 3 days. I have no idea how people managed their tension levels who saw this series in real time as so many episodes ended on cliff hangers. Especially the last season 5 was truly brilliant.

It blows my mind where W.W. began in episode 1 of Season 1 and where he ended up in episode 62 of season 5. Amazing acting, amazing writing, amazing everything about this show.
 
Just watched Season 4 of Rick and Morty.

'Rick and Morty' is offensive at times but overall it's an interesting show.

A bit of a bummer that Season 4 wasn't streamed on Netflix.

The best TV show going IMO.
 
Netflix is on a roll. Darcula just came out. Finished watching the first episode. The show is created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, the creators of Sherlock.

The series consists of 3 episodes, two are out and the third will be out tomorrow. The episodes are almost one and a half hour long.

I mean, it's decent. I enjoyed it. It's dark and funny and done in a very Sherlocky way. Obviously, its not easy to bring something new to a story that has already been told a bunch of times but this was fun to watch

There are various shows and movies that are only available depending on the region. For eg, Netflix Germany doesn't have The Office. The US from what I've seen has the largest database, so what I usually do is use a US based proxy to watch some shows, although their filters do catch it sometimes.

I found it a bit contrived. It was good in some aspects, but in other ways it just grated for some reason. Like the producers have watched American shows about gangsters and then tried to produce a British version.

I watched about 15 mins of a British film made about football gangs, and I swear they ripped off the entire scene of Goodfellas where Joe Pecci lays into the young waiter. Turned it off right there.

Enjoyed UK.
France was good.
Spain watchable.

This list will surely grow as Netflix acquires content out of film festivals such as Sundance later this month, but for now Netflix has a 2020 slate chock full of auteur-driven original dramas. Netflix is coming off of its most lucrative year in cinema yet thanks to Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” and Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story,” among other titles (if “The Two Popes” is embraced by the Academy, Netflix could have three Best Picture noms in 2020), and it looks like the streaming giant will continue to soar in 2020 with works from David Fincher, Spike Lee, Dee Rees, Ben Wheatley, Charlie Kaufman, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and more.

Perhaps Netflix’s most anticipated 2020 feature film is “Mank,” the first feature directorial effort from David Fincher since the 2014 release of “Gone Girl.” The movie is expected to launch in the fall as one of the streamer’s top Oscar contenders. Gary Oldman stars as Herman J. Mankiewicz, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “Citizen Kane.” The supporting cast includes Amanda Seyfried, Charles Dance, and Lily Collins.

Both “Dick Johnson Is Dead” and Dee Rees’ “The Last Thing He Wanted” are set for Sundance world premieres.

The first Witcher novel in which this season was based on was published 3 years before the first Game of Thrones book so it is not a copy at all. All of the fantasy genre takes some inspiration from Lord of the Rings. Although they are certainly following the successful fomula GOT proved could work. There are multiple other book series being developed for TV as we speak.

There is plenty of excellent stories in Fantasy that could make for intriging TV adaptions.

Oh boy, a must watch then if Moffat and Gatiss are behind it.
 
Dracula: Best Bram Stoker adaptation for me, albeit loosely based. Top notch story telling, smart humor, neat direction, excellent acting, incredible chemistry between the two leads, amazing cinematography, atmosphere and overall look and feel. A real visual treat for horror fans like me. 8.5/10
 
Good episode 11 of last season of power, 4 more to go.

Might give it a go, was planning on giving Netflix a break after wasting my time on the Messiah.
 
Watched Dunkirk, another great movie from Nolan. He has become my second favorite director after Scorsese.

Netflix has some gems though, if you are a horror and crime thriller fan I suggest Haunting of the Hill House, Kingdom, Ozark, Mindhunter, Fargo,Hannibal and Bodyguard.

I especially loved the chemistry between two leads, the scene at the convent where they meet each other for the first time was epic to say the least. They were like a dark and disturbing version of Ross and Rachel lol.

Very good but harrowing show. Gets better as it progresses, intriguing story, tight script and editing along with great performances by the leads.

Also what's peculiar here is that the offender had no particular type. Went after all age groups, races and types.

I only watched the first season of sacred games. was not as good as people made it out to be.
 
Just finished first three seasons of Money Heist.

Set in Madrid and filmed in Spanish.
Watch it is Spanish with subtitles.

Really enjoyed the first two seasons

I've watched 2 episodes so far and it is a real eye-opener regarding what victims of rape have to go through with the police and other authorities.
 
Just finished miniseries "The Nineties" excellent series by CNN on netflix , esp for Americans and the meaning of collective American culture of how it keeps getting redefined.

Starts with TV shows ,the massive change and then music, terrorism, leadership and riots.

Watched it all now.

Indeed harrowing. Really felt sorry for the first victim who police claimed was lying.

Watched the first episode of Dracula last night. Really liked it. Made the mistake of checking reviews on IMDB first where people bashed this series for deviating from the original story. I am glad they took a different path. How many times do you want to see the depiction of the original story.
