What's new

Netflix Originals, TV shows and Movies

Had my fill of shows during lockdown ...
‘The Break’ is an outstanding Belgian show...
Recommend ‘The Stranger’ from Korea...
‘The Chalet’ is quality (France)
Agree with those who enjoyed ‘The Fall’
Really enjoyed Justified, Ozark and Better Call Saul...
Easily the worst show I have seen over the last few months is Money Heist...I honestly for the life of me don’t understand why it’s so highly rated...i felt it was atrocious and the only remotely interesting character (spoiler) doesn’t survive the 1st season...writing was terrible, the characters were all unlikable, the ringleader relied on luck not smarts, the policewoman was an absolute fool...a show that made you dislike all the characters...

Some that I really like:

Mindhunter season 1&2 (can’t wait for 3)
The Sinner (Season 1 is brilliant)
The Crown (love season 1&2)
The People versus OJ (Best ever!!)
Manhunt: The unibomber (very good)

Watching:

What if (not so great)

Gave up on:

Ozark (Decent but not engaging)
Breaking Bad (Good but not engaging)

"DevilMan Crybaby" and "Love, Death, and Robots" are my two favorite series on Netflix. Very fine pieces of art that can speak to you personally on many levels. Definitely recommend.

Watched ‘Room 2806: The Accusation’:

This docuseries follows the 2011 sexual assault case involving French politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn at the height of his career.

Really good, well worth a watch.

Watched The Ripper.

Investigators and witnesses recall the Yorkshire Ripper murders, which cast a shadow over the north of England in the late 1970s.

Interesting and worth a watch if you are into true crime.

whats it about ?

Every episode tells a short story about different things that are very random and imaginative. All are animated in very different styles and take on a specific subject matter present it beautifully. Ep lengths range from 3 mints or 12 mints. Do give it a watch, will not take more than 2 hours to finish

I put it on cause I had nothing better to do but man was I hooked from episode 1. Netflix does true crime like no one else!

Started watching The Crown - a historical drama streaming series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it, but it's got me interested.

Lupin.

A retelling of the classic French story about Arsène Lupin, the world-famous gentleman thief and master of disguise.

Brilliant.

Saw it the day it was released. 6/10, expected more from it. May be season 2 will be more exciting.

Lupin.

A retelling of the classic French story about Arsène Lupin, the world-famous gentleman thief and master of disguise.

Brilliant.

The masterly "disguises" seem to be taken from the Superman school of disguises where apparently all you have to do is wear a pair of glasses and a orange beanie to become instantly transformed into someone totally unrecognizable or the Shahensha guide where you very fake looking white hair and beard.

The series itself is full of cliches, plot holes and one can see the "twists" coming a mile away. However there are worse things you can watch if you just want to switch off your mind and pass the time.

I thought the same, it was so bad and almost bollywoodish!

Black Sails is brilliant, esp the 2nd and 3rd season..they are spectacular. Haven't seen such character arcs being developed for a while now. Will finish off the 4th one soon

Watched The Night Stalker - The Hunt for a Serial Killer

Beneath the sunlit glamour of 1985 LA lurks a relentlessly evil serial killer. In this true-crime story, two detectives won't rest until they catch him.

Very good. Well worth a watch if you are into your true crime.

A lot of Netflix shows/movies/documentaries are just rinse & repeat, rinse & repeat.

Will rewatch Black Mirror & Breaking Bad.

Finished watching Lupin.

It started well and fell away.

I don't think I'll bother with the next series.

For anyone into true crime, watch I am A Killer. There have been some more episodes added by Netflix.

Watching Breaking Bad....

for the first time

The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel

The four-part documentary series from director Joe Berlinger looks into the 1993 disappearance of Elisa Lam from Los Angeles' Cecil Hotel.

Brilliant. Highly recommend it for anyone who likes true crime documentaries.

Just binging this right now, on episode 3, was about to sleep after the 2nd but I guess I'm gonna get to the end of it. It's very intriguing.

You're going to enjoy it. It may seem like slow to start off with, but once you get deep into the series, you'll be full riveted.

Just finished it and absolutely loved it!!
What am I gonna watch now?

Better Call Saul. A prequel to Breaking Bad. Absolutely love it.

Ok gonna watch that next...

Also watching Kobra Kai..
Didn't think I would like and there's a lot of sentimental stuff involved but actually I'm enjoying it very much. I think it's great if you actually watched the original films.

Fury (2014).

Follows a WW2 American tank crew. Brad Pitt, Jon Bernthal, Michael Pena, Shia LeBeouf.

Absolutely loved it, 9/10.

It was an amazingly done war film, dramatic, funny, heart-breaking. The tank warfare scenes were breath-taking

What am I gonna watch now?

Glad you enjoyed it. TBH I only really watched BB because it was on my to do list due to the hype.

in_cutter mentioned the Better Call Saul prequel but I didn't bother with it.

There's also the sequel movie El Camino, I've only watched a few minutes so I need to get round to finishing that. :inti

Very interesting but it wasn't quite the ending that I had expected.

White House Farm

The series is based on true events from 6 August 1985. Five members of the Bamber-Caffell family are shot to death at White House Farm, Essex. The police, led by detectives DCI Taff Jones (Stephen Graham) and DS Stan Jones (Mark Addy), are called in to investigate.

When questioning the Bambers' son, Jeremy Bamber, he claims that his sister, Sheila, who was suffering from schizophrenia, went "berserk", got hold of a suppressed rifle and killed their parents and Shelia's six-year old twin sons. As the murder case unravels, a devastating twist comes to light.

Watching Queen of South just finished season 3, a brilliant Crime drama would definitely recommend.

Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell

Featuring rare footage and in-depth interviews, this documentary celebrates the life of The Notorious B.I.G. on his journey from hustler to rap king.

Interesting watch.

Binged through After Life this weekend. Absolutely loved it. British humour is something else
For people who have seen it, anything similar out there?

Yes fantastic.

I didn't know whether to laugh or be sad at times.

Gervais at his best.

Just finished it.

Three words

Oh dear lord

I got bored with it.

I watched all 6 episodes but the last couple of episodes were a real drag in my opinion.

Maybe I was expecting more.

Mate the last two to three episodes were absolutely inexplicable...

I can't believe I wasted my time on this.
What an utterly rubbish series... I still can't believe how it went so badly after episode 4.

-20/10

Started off well. Went downhill towards the end. Overrated.

It's been while since I saw a show go down hill so fast.
Me and the Mrs didn't know what to make of it...

Started off well.
Good young actors, what seemed like a good premise and then bang...
It goes off on a tangent and well into the world of the paranormal. If that wasn't bad then the explanation for it, well there wasn't any.

Quicksand

Maja, a student in Stockholm, finds herself on trial for murder after a tragedy at her school. More doubts and suspicions arise when new revelations are made.

Watched 5 episodes out of 6 so far.

Good, worth watching.

This Is a Robbery: The World's Greatest Art Heist is a 2021 American documentary film miniseries about the March 18, 1990 robbery of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.

Fascinating documentary.

Recommend it if you are into your true crime documentaries.

Night in Paradise
South Korean 'Gangster' crime drama. Enjoyed it, the director when gets going goes all Boom Boom in it :afridi

Enjoyed it 7.5/10

Sir David Attenborough’s testimony.

A man who has seen the human population of the world increase by 250%, atmospheric carbon double, and the amount of wild spaces across the world halve.

Yet he is optimistic about carbon capture technology and rewinding programmes.

A deeply moving watch.

Jamtara, well made series about a bunch of rural village boys doing telephone credit card scams in India, worth a binge watch, acting is top notch from a very unknown cast.

Yes - I really enjoyed this. Second season is in the pipeline which I'm looking forward to following th ending of Season 1.

Why Did You Kill Me?

Very good. Again something for true crime fans.

'Why Did You Kill Me?' tells how Crystal Theobald's family used social media to find her murderers
In 2006, Crystal was gunned down in Riverside, California, while driving with her mother Belinda Lane, brother Justin, and boyfriend
Mother of two was shot in the head and killed during the drive-by shooting
Belinda enlisted niece Jaimie, 14, to make a fake profile for Crystal on MySpace
Jaimie said she would make suspects 'fall in love' with her and lull them into a false sense of security to get information out of them
Viewers branded Belinda a 'hero' for her courage in bringing killers to justice
Others argued it was 'insanity' to put her niece in any sort of danger like that

I watched 'Them' on Netflix. Reminded me of Jordan peeles Us. Such a good series, well paced and surreal. Highly recommended

Watched Into The Night, a Netflix original series from Belgium, recently. It's centred on a very interesting dystopian concept regarding a change in the sun's polarity which leads to a mass global extinction event due to exposure to sunlight. The characters survive by virtue of being on a commercial flight which is hijacked and forced to fly towards the west 'into the night'. It's rather well executed and some of the acting is excellent. Connoisseurs of French television might recognize Pauline Étienne and Alba Gaïa Bellugi from the famed Canal Plus series Le Bureau des Légendes.

Started watching The Irregulars.

A British crime drama television series developed by Drama Republic for Netflix. Based on the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, it features the Baker Street Irregulars working for Dr. Watson saving London from supernatural elements.

It started off quite well, but after watching 3 episodes I'm at the point where I'm going to give up on it.

Finished 'The Serpent'.

7/10, gripping and very detailed portrayal of one of world's most notorious murderer ever. Tahar Rahim as Charles looked suave!

Finished "Who killed Sara".

7/10. 1 extra mark for suspense that's being built up in the dying moments of Season 1. Earlier episodes aided in it looking like a usual run-of-the-mill revenge drama in which a happy go lucky guy had to serve an 18-years prison sentence for killing her own sister which he obviously he didn't!

Season 2 should be very engaging to watch.

Finished all 3 seasons of "The Dark".

1/10. Absolute damp squib, wasted so many hours watching it with nothing coming out of it in the end. Just kept waiting for it to give me thrills but it just didn't!

Almost all central characters just kept going in past/future at will in the name of time travel via a cave or a machine. There were so many characters being shown simultaneously at different stages of their lives, which made it extremely difficult to keep track as to who was who!

Watching Son of Sam.

True Crime series about the case that grew into a lifelong obsession for journalist Maury Terry, who became convinced that the murders were linked to a satanic cult.

Very interesting.

I am glad that I ain't the only one who hated it. I only managed to watch 1st season, never bothered again despite the fuss and ratings :P

True. Writer expects us to read series Wiki just to understand what's happening on screen or something :))

Poor me! Just kept expecting for non existent thrills!

I mean if there was such a simple solution (going back in time to change the thing which ultimately led it too all that mess!) to save the world from the impending apocalypse, why wait for 16 more hrs to unleash it on us? Could've finished it in the first season itself!

For those who watched The Jinx:

A judge has denied a request by lawyers for elderly real estate multimillionaire Robert Durst that his trial be indefinitely halted on the grounds that he is very ill.

Durst, 78, is charged with the murder in 2000 of his best friend Susan Berman.

He is accused of shooting the writer because of what she might have known about the unsolved disappearance and presumed killing of his wife two decades earlier.

Prosecutors in Los Angeles have said Durst's 2015 arrest in the Berman case was hastened by his apparent confession to multiple killings in the award-winning HBO television series The Jinx.

Durst was arrested on suspicion of Berman's murder one day before the airing of the final episode, in which he seemed to incriminate himself.

After being confronted with a key piece of evidence, a microphone captured Durst muttering to himself: "There it is, you're caught," and "What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course."

On Monday Durst's lead lawyer, Dick DeGuerin, argued that his client's health has grown "much worse" in the 14 months since the trial was suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions imposed shortly after testimony began.

The emergency defence motion for indefinite postponement cited numerous life-threatening medical issues that Durst's lawyers say he faces, including bladder cancer and a recurrence of oesophageal cancer.

The length of the stoppage is unprecedented and it's the highest-profile US case postponed because of the pandemic, Durst's lawyers said.

Deputy District Attorney John Lewin called the motion a ploy to make "this trial go away".

Superior Court Judge Mark Windham sided with prosecutors, ruling that a physical disorder does not necessarily impair one's competence to stand trial.

The defence also requested Durst be released on bail and placed under electronic monitoring in a private hospital to obtain necessary medical treatment at his own expense.

"The doctor said he is in need of urgent hospitalisation," Mr DeGuerin told the judge. "The question is not whether he can endure the rigours of the trial, the question is whether he can survive at all."

Durst, who was not present for the proceedings, faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.

Berman, 55, was found dead in her Beverly Hills home a couple of months after police in New York were reported to have reopened an investigation into the fate of Durst's spouse, Kathleen, who was a medical student when she vanished in 1982.

Durst, the multimillionaire grandson of a Manhattan real estate magnate, has been questioned by investigators about his wife but insists he had nothing to do with her disappearance. He was never prosecuted.

The circumstances surrounding both cases, and Durst's 2003 acquittal in the killing and dismemberment of a neighbour in Texas, where he had been living in the guise of a woman, gained wide attention in The Jinx.
