its about 70 % completed i would say but previous government have delayed this project almost by 2-3 years due to corruptions
and now this government is playing around with this project too. aparantly mr nawaz shariff has decided to build another airport in Rawat area. which is ridiculous

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) may face more embarrassment next week when a constitutional petition seeking the removal of its new director general (DG) is filed in the Supreme Court (SC).
Petitioner, senior advocate Asif Fasihuddin Vardag, said that the appointment of Air Marshal (retd) Muhammad Yousaf as the new head of the CAA was made in a non-transparent and unlawful manner.
“I will file a petition to challenge his appointment which was made against the rules and regulations of the CAA,” he added.
Yousaf was appointed DG CAA last month when his predecessor Air Marshal (retd) Khalid Chaudhry was sacked following a directive by the apex court. The court directive came in September on a petition filed by Vardag against the massive financial and administrative corruption in the under-construction New Benazir Bhutto International Airport project in Rawalpindi
When contacted by The Express Tribune, Yousaf declined to comment on this reported unlawful appointment. His assistant, who identified himself as squadron leader Javed, said his boss could not attend telephone calls as he was in a meeting. The public relations officer of the CAA is also in the meeting with the DG CAA, Javed claimed. He said that the PRO would respond with a comment, but he failed to do so.
About his upcoming petition which Vardag said will be filed next week, he maintains that the new DG CAA was not qualified to be appointed for the job. The relevant rules demand that the person has the capability of ‘pilot-in-command’ who should also have the know-how regarding engineering of aviation. Yousaf had served as a pilot in the PAF but has no training or experience of engineering. The appointment is also against the rules of the Pakistan Engineering Council.
The rules also demand that the appointment of the DG CAA should be made after a selection by a federal government-appointed special committee. The government did not ask for the application by the candidates for the post of the DG CAA which Vardag said is also a violation.
According to the rules it was not necessary that the DG should be a former officer of the Pakistan Air Force, Verdag explained. The correct procedure would have been to give the office to former PIA pilot Captain (retd) Nadeem Yousafzai, who was removed to accommodate Chaudhry, Verdag argued.
The SC, in its earlier judgment, had also ordered the government to probe the alleged financial corruption worth billions of rupees by previous DG Khalid Chaudhry, some contractors and others involved.

I am so looking forward to this airport. Last month I flew back from Islamabad on Turkish Airlines.... and checking in and gate area was a chaos.

New Islamabad Airport is not in Islamabad it's in Attock. Even the old Islamabad Airport is in Rawalpindi.

So it's finally going to be operational after 10 years of work! Let's see if the news is finally true or we will see another delay again.

A video was posted on social media of ceiling panels at the airport crashing to the ground and water pouring down. Civil Aviation Director-General Nasir Hassan Jami took notice of the incident and has summoned a report from the project director and airport manager in three days.

The airport was completed two years ago at a cost of Rs105 billion. According to Shahbaz Gill, the prime minister's special assistant on political communication, the fault lies with the PML-N government.

He said the contract for the airport's construction was given to Mian Munir, to whose son Maryam Nawaz's daughter is married.

He was investigated by NAB in an assets beyond means case but the case was closed in November 2019.

Federal Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar is expected to visit the airport today (Monday). He will tour the facility to see the damage and observe what steps have been taken to prevent further damage. CAA officials are expected to accompany him.

Former Puppet PM Abbasi said at the time:

Following the latest round of downpour in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Monday, rainwater entered the Islamabad International Airport, causing its false ceiling to collapse partially.

The rainwater poured down from the ceilings above several counters, including immigration, and caused computers and other equipment to malfunction.

Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) staff stood by helplessly as parts of the ceiling came crashing down due to the weight of water.

However, officials said that airport operations were not suspended and work continued as usual. They added that repair work was underway and would be completed soon

The officials expressed the hope that such incidents would not happen again.

This is not the first time that the gleaming Islamabad airport has been damaged by rain. A major portion of the false ceiling at the airport’s international departure and concourse hall collapsed during a downpour in August 2020.

Heavy leakage of water was observed in the hall after that incident but no one was injured.

“The design of the outer ceilings is such that it allows for entry and circulation of air in areas where there is no air-conditioning. During high-speed winds, we sometimes encounter with such a situation,” Aviation Division spokesman Senior Joint Secretary Abdul Sattar Khokhar said at the time.

An inquiry into the leakage was later ordered.

The airport, which was built at a cost of Rs105 billion, became operational in May 2018. It has two runways — each 12,000 feet long and 150 feet wide, taxiways and aprons for wide-body aircraft.

The construction work on the airport started in April 2007. It is the largest airport in the country and is designed to facilitate 15 million passengers annually in its first phase.

Hardly seven months into its completion, a number of incidents such as the collapse of the false ceiling, choking of sewerage lines and presence of stinking water in offices occurred since the airport became functional.

Authorities had decided to shift all staff and workers to an alternative place when the customs cargo (airfreight unit) building started caving in — just six months after its opening in 2018.

How poor must the design be if these things are happening on a regular basis. SS has 25bn in his accounts and apparently he doesn't know where they came from, I never had 1rp extra in my accounts by mistake. It doesn't take a genius to work out what's being going with these contracts.
