I've mentioned this lad on here a few times now but thought I'd finally make a thread for him with this news that make him look set to become NSWs first overseas player since Imran Khan over 3 decades back and that too at just 20 years old! Been consistently tearing teams apart in Sydney grade cricket with his leggies and i think he'll make it big as England's spinner in the future.

Apparently, the australian state teams dont go for overseas players that much.

To be a player who gets picked out as an overseas selection for the first time ever in 20+ years suggests that this guy is special

You forgot to.mention his name

45 wickets in FC cricket at an average of 41 and SR of 63. Nothing to be excited about.

What a player he is. I've seen him play live and he spins the ball miles. Will easily be in the English cricket team in a couple of years. I was playing with my club at Taunton and he was there practicing. Delight to watch.

Very interesting. A very raw but apparently promising spinner, selected by what I believe is the powerhouse state of Australian domestic cricket, an overseas signing not done since the great IK.

Are Aussies planning for a crafty import to their national team's spin stocks in a few years?

lol didnt think of it this way but the way things have been past 5-6 years this isnt entirely our of the realms of possibility as one might think on first glance

The stats are not great but he bowls in England for the most part on seamer friendly conditions. He is an excellent young prosepct and if he continues to develop, he will be the England spinner for the next decade. He does really give it a rip.

Yeah could turn out to be great. Let's see. NSW has obviously picked him on as a prospect.

Pretty sure Will Somerville is a Kiwi so this should be false.

NSW need to win their next two matches to make the shield final and their entire spin attack (O'Keefe and Lyon) is in India.

Thats why they picked him.

Somervilles classes a local apparently. Arjun Nair's played for them a bit this season I believe.

Arjun Nair was born in Canberra

Wasn't referring to him as being foreign born but just that he'd played for them as a spinner a couple of times this season in shield cricket I believe yet Crane evidently leapfrogged him through his grade performances.

I don't think Nair actually played shield but he played some Big Bash and second XI and Cricket Australia XI sort of stuff.

Too young for shield at the moment.

2/50, 15* and 3/66 on his shield debut. Not too bad for a 20 year old albeit a bit expensive for the amount of overs he bowled in the first innings.

Leg Spinners are wicket takers and giving the extra 10 or 15 is worth it if they take wickets. Where they do become a luxury is when they go for runs and and not take wickets.

Not sure how much of him you guys have seen because he really isnt that good in the longer format. he gets some turn but lacks control and accuracy. That is a major issue for any leggy so I'm curious to see how he will develop in the first class game over the next 2 years or so but in the shoter format he is surprisingly decent. He isnt going to set the world alight just yet but there is something to build on.

Then again, he might just fall to the side like so many English spinners.

Funnily enough I feel the opposite actually, I think first class/test cricket is where he'll excel whilst he'll do alright but nothing overly special in limited overs.

Called into the England squad for the t20 series against South Africa. T20 isn't the format I expect him to do his best at but I expect the coaching staff want to get a look at him.
