New Zealand (330/6) defeat Pakistan (252/9) comfortably by 78 runs in the first match of the Tri-Nation ODI series 2025

So you wanna tear down a building but not break the foundation? Williamson is the glue that allows the others to attack. If he had been out early they could've been all out. That possibility is diminishing with every ball, dot or not
No he's the pressure cooker that forces others to attack.

NZ was stronger in odi without him and they proved that in 2023 wc.

Williamson is at 43 of 74 atm and he was going slow when rachin was attacking and their was no pressure.

No Mitchell has taken the pressure off and he's still going slow.

Had he been at 55 or 60 of 74 NZ would be in a stronger position.

You're acting as if NZ collapsed. They only had a brief stumble at 39-2. Atm their under no stress yet Williamson still refuses to accelerate.

That's how he almost always plays. Tell me about a knock of significance that he's played in ODI cricket

The knock he played against Australia at the World Cup in Chennai itself on a tough pitch.

It doesn't matter. Comparison is with Williamson who is a far inferior ODI batter and doesn't keep wickets like KL either.

They were briefly under pressure and we couldn't capitalize. Another wicket and we would've been in a stronger position too. But now with half the overs done and the deep batting line up, they will attack.

Williamson showed his experience when Pakistan were on full attack and got them out of what could've been a tricky situation.

If anyone else had to anchor aside from Williamson, they would've been out of their comfort zone.

vernon has a strange pronounciation issue. NOticed that many times. Lot of the time he says "s" as "sh". partnersip, saheen sa afridi .. etc

Williamson 67 in WC semi final 2019 was a far superior knock

Williamson 48 avg, 81 sr, 13 centuries despite playing more no of games

Rahul 48 avg, 88 sr, 7 centuries.

How is Rahul is superior? Their equal. Rahul is slightly faster in odi that's all. In test cricket Williamson is undeniably superior.

In Test cricket he's nothing more than a passenger.
Point was why can't passionate Indian fans get rid of him

A slight improvement in the pace of our fast bowlers

Current ability. Not overall.

And now he's gone. If NZ loses they'll ponder why they lost. It'll be because of that 65 Sr.

There's always a fine line between a selfish and selfless knock.

While his intentions might have been to stabilize, 54 of 86 is just not good enough at this level. Needed to find a way to rotate the strike a bit better otherwise it creates unnecessary pressure to the rest of the team.

If NZ win it'll be because of Williamson's stabilization and if NZ loose it'll be because he was too slow.

Problem is that if you're an accumulator, probability doesn't favor your. It's much harder to catch up than say someone like Fakhar Zaman who could make back the difference in 2 overs.

Whilst Pakistan have done well to pick 3 wickets up on a placid surface. The lack of decent 5th and 6th bowlers will get exposed at somepoint

Khusdil is not 5th bowler material.

Same goes for the batting from 6 downwards it doesn't look a good Pakistan line up

agha should bowl ahead of happy heart

Latham gone for 3 ball duck. Could have been out twice in 3 ball

@Nikhil_cric told you , latham didn't deserve to play ahead of Conway .

:kp

I never said he did. I said NZ won't play him because Conway is not even a decent keeper.

Anyway , good news for us, we might just squeeze into semis of CT if NZ are this bad.

Another wicket here and Williamson's knock will seem much much better.

I agree he was a bit slow but don't think NZ were too far behind from where they wanted to be at 25 over mark

Getting rid if shadab iftikhar azam khan was a good move by naqvi but replacing it with kushdil and fahrem doesn't fix the problem hope both come out good

They will come back with good strategy in next few matches .

Conway (Wk)
Rachin
Kane
Mitchell
Champman
Philips
Bracewell
santner ( C)

This should be top 8 .

Agreed for the most part however let's not forget it's a team game. Everyone has roles and Williamson's is to anchor the innings which allows others to play freely.

Pressure in this format is created by getting wickets and New Zealand was doing well to negate that pressure while Williamson was on the crease. Now that he's out, we got another wicket and pressure is back on NZ.
