The 3-match ODI series rolls into Rajkot for the second game at the Niranjan Shah Stadium, a venue that does not see international cricket too often after replacing the Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground. Only four ODIs have been played here, and the hosts have lost three. It is also a ground where chasing has been a thankless task. Targets of 300-plus have been set three times, and none have been hunted down. In fact, a team batting second is yet to win here. India's win in the first ODI was largely expected against a depleted New Zealand side, but it came with a few nerves. The hosts waited over 20 overs for their first wicket and leaked 88 runs in the final ten, areas they will want to tighten up. Also, the chase followed a similar script. When everything seemed under control with the big names doing the job, the quick loss of Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer within 13 balls suddenly spiced things up. A handy knock from Harshit Rana and KL Rahul staying till the end ensured India crossed the line.

The Black Caps can take confidence from how close they pushed India on their home turf. Batting remains New Zealand's stronger suit, and it will need to shoulder extra responsibility to shield an inexperienced bowling attack. Changes for the visitors look unlikely after just one game. India, however, are forced into one, with Washington Sundar injured and Ayush Badoni added to the squad. Nitish Kumar Reddy appears to be the likely replacement if the hosts maintain the same team composition. With history firmly favouring teams batting first, the toss could once again be crucial. Whether Rajkot sticks to the script or serves a surprise remains to be seen.

Tbh, india barely won 1st one but it was a win indeed.. Kohli once again proving why he is one the ATG in this format.

Today, NZ should be looking to chase.?

STAY ON TOPIC GUYS
It's on topic bruv, for someone who hates India, he)she/it spends too much time littering on Indian match threads.....

New Zealand have won the toss and have opted to field

Teams:

New Zealand
(Playing XI): Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls, Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Hay(w), Michael Bracewell(c), Zakary Foulkes, Jayden Lennox, Kristian Clarke, Kyle Jamieson

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill(c), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w), Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna

India plays just 5 batsmen. THis is the next level stupidity from Gambhir
You can get away with this strategy against such a weak attack like this kiwi one. But surely long term it can't be the solution for India.

Very long tail.

Don't think this is a good line up against any team. This is already under par total. This is a very high scoring ground. 350 is easier to achieve. They will be short by 50 runs.

why are Varun and Akshar not selected in team squad? injuries? what about guys like Riyan , Rinku ?

I think varun is not preferred for sa wc .Mgmnt want a pace Ar like reddy .Bishnoi is not improving and everyone is treating him like a Googly bowler
I agree with Bishnoi - maybe he is good for T20's only....but Varun not for Sa WC?

On wickets with bounce, especially under lights - Varun will be lethal....half the batsmen in the world cant pick which way its gonna turn... i feel he will be the big weapon for India much more than pace bowling ar like NKr....and we have already have HP for same role...

I too thought the same but knowing gg fetishnes with ars, its difficult. Axar/Jadeja and Kuldeep are mandatory.2 pacers are mandatory. Pandya is mandatory.5 batsmen are filled already. Gg will want the last player with some batting ability than an attacking bowler.Nkr, washi , Rana will have more chance than varun.

I think he publicly acknowledged that his s.r is the issue as per management. I guess at this rate, he cant prolong .
He's a pretty average ODI bowler and has been for over a decade.

Against all the major sides since Oct, 2013 he averages 42 with the ball.

And they are making him bat at #6. Of the 3 oldies in this lineup, his place is completely untenable.

Jadeja in sa conditions is a disaster. He just can't help but screwing us.Another failure will put rohit in difficult spot.i dont think its a straight forward situation for him. Kohli dont have any young competitor.

valid point....but to be fair, H Rana has defo improved his batting....at one point i thought he was zilch in batting but off late he has contributed with the bat...

But still an year + some....to go for the ODI WC....what i want is India to go left field and select a young upcoming paceman....someone with real wheels, someone who will keep the batsmen on the back foot, someone who will exploit the pace bounce and seam on SAF wickets...

I wish an out and out quick bowler - someone like umraan Malik or Mayank could be tried in some domestic series like this one....

They have fitness issues , India like pacers who swing and bowl line and length.

Both have recovered from back injuries. Umram have started but his domestic form is not great. I think mayank will settle for t20s.

Stadium is looking beautiful. We have so many beautiful Stadiums , now need to improve the facilities for fans, World class drainage system etc etc.
:kp

Expected Harshit to become a very good first change bowler in ODIs.

But to see him as a lethal bowler in powerplay was never in my radar.

Great eyes GG!!

:kp

Wow Yadav got smashed.

Kiwis should win from this position. Their bowling is C level but batting seems normal. They gotta see them home from this position.

NZ are looking good for a win here. :inti

109 to win from 97 balls. 8 wickets in hand.

India's ODI decline has been evident in this series.

They barely won against a NZ C team in the 1st ODI. They are now losing the 2nd ODI.

Great to see India's recent decline in Test and ODI.:dav

Will Young is out. :inti

NZ - 208/3 (38.2 overs).

77 to win from 70.
Hopefully no collapse. :inti

Siraj has bowled beautifully here.

Without Siraj, India might have lost 0-5 in England. He carried India there.

Once Siraj, Bumrah, Jadeja, and Kuldeep retire, Indian Test/ODI bowling is likely to decline further. :inti

Daryl Mitchell is on 96*. Great innings.

Less than a run a ball now.

57 to win from 59.

Indian posters have disappeared. :qdkcheeky

Anyway, century for Daryl Mitchell. Well played :inti

Mitchell's ODI average is 56. Wow! Didn't know it was that high.

What’s the point of playing NKR when you’re not going to give him some overs in a JAMODI?
