Not really a bad decision to bowl first, give the bowlers a chance. Pakistan's bowling is better than batting.
 
With the current team and lack of preparation, we would not have survived the first hour and would have lost the test within one session of the test. Atleast now we can take interest for longer.
 
Should have played Imran butt instead of Yasir and Sohail Khan instead of Naseem. That would have strengthen our batting now batting is too weak

this is a problem which Pakistan need to sort out. play people in positions according to potential. he is a no 7. should stick there for 2 - 3 years
 
Looks like bowlers will have to be at their best!

Pitch looks, hopefully Pakistan can capitalize on that...
 
Faheem batting is overrated. He was struggling in T20s, except for few goodish shots in the first T20. Talat would have made more sense for support bowling, but he does not get to bowl much nowadays.

WI made the same mistake. After surviving the new ball batting usually gets easier on day 1 in NZ. From day 2 the wicket gets more bounce.

Mount maunganui might be a little different, but that's how it went in the last two tests.
 
Why Misbah is afraid of giving debut to Imran if he is not good enough then why he selected him.
 
Both teams packing their sides with bowlers.

Our previous number 6, Shafiq had a total of 12 centuries in his career. Rizwan getting 10 centuries batting at 7 with our tail? You'd have to be dreaming.
 
Nearly the XI I posted, I would have preferred Sohail Khan over Yasir Shah.

But still, the bowlers playing will have to do the job now. You have the opportunity to prove you belong to this level.
Hopefully our fielders will accept the catches of they come to them.

Not on this ground, the last time a test was played on this ground was when NZ thrashed Eng and Eng batted first. Although Eng made 353 in that first innings, NZ replied with 615/9d.
 
Glad Faheem is playing. Much rather have the fifth option than letting a mediocre batsmen like Imran Butt play.
 
I want to watch one Muhammad Abbas over and then go to bed :yk
 
The wicket is green but there is zero overcast conditions

I sincerely hope this doesn’t become another case of Misbah and Waqar not having done their homework
 
Bowling first is a no brainer with the colour of the pitch but i reckon this will be a flat wicket. Main worrying part os going with 5 batters and all of them are useless big risk.playing 5 bowlers..maybe shadab instead of yasir might be slightly better but still
 
Should've played Imran ahead of Yasir. But otherwise, this is the right selection.

Good decision to bowl first.

Does wind helps get more swing or it doesn’t? I remember Wasim Akram saying in his days, they used to make Waqar against the wind and where he used to bowl with the wind and it helps both as Waqar pace was his asset.

I honestly feel we should have Mohammed Asif as a bowling coach, i hope some sense prevail and we need to remove Waqar asap, he hasn’t helped a single bowler becomes a world class.
 
Pak needs a batting all-rounder at number 7 in overseas tests . . Faheem ashraf isn't even an all rounder let alone a batting all rounder. . Basically at 5 down, our batting is done!

Hussain Talat should be in ahead of Faheem. Even Amir Yameen is better
 
If they're playing Faheem at 7, why was Sohail Khan ignored? He's as good a batsman as Faheem and a significantly better bowler in these conditions.
 
Right let's hope we hit the right lengths and don't spray the new ball around.

I remember going for SA vs Pak WC games and when national anthem was playing, A Southafrican guy said to me ur anthem giving me goosebumps because whole stadium was singing the anthem. He said your love for your team is amazing.
 
average score 388. NZ has some hitters. If they get going . this could be like a 50 over double batting game
 
NZ at home is definitely one of the toughest frontiers to conquer in tests in the modern era. NZ has lost just 2 series in last 8 years.

Hussain Talat time will come. I don’t see Misbah lasting till T20 WC.
 
New ball is vital, don't waste it.

Avg of 30 in FC cricket (With 2 100s) vs 14 (With no 100) isnt much of a comparison I think.

WC game is a life time experience. Pakistan was peaking at the right time but it was too late. It was like we were in Lahore and whole London could hear the cheer for Pakistan boundaries.
 
It's a good call to bowl first, but that batting line-up is quite weak - batting 4th might be risky here. Yasir's selection is poor, if PAK had the play book written on bowling first.

A little spongy bounce there - it should get faster on Day 2. ideally Kiwis would like to bat quickly and bowl PAK on 2nd morning. First wicket down.
 
What a start. Need at least 3 this session. Hopefully I wake up to some good news

Brilliant bowling. Our batting looks so shallow. Good to see Haris back though
 
I remember few years back Rizwan had a rough debut in NZ - it's almost poetic that he debuts as Captain there as well.
