For those who remember, this is what Amir couldn’t do against Jeet Raval last time, subsequently his career as a Test bowler was over that day

Rizwan telling slip fielders to come forward for Abbas’ bowling.

I remember few years back Rizwan had a rough debut in NZ - it's almost poetic that he debuts as Captain there as well.

This game is a great leveller if someone is willing to put in the hard hards, as we have seen multiple times.

Really good from our new ball pair. Asking questions of the batsmen immediately.

Abbas starts panting towards the end of his first over. Does he have some permanent medical issue?

If they're playing Faheem at 7, why was Sohail Khan ignored? He's as good a batsman as Faheem and a significantly better bowler in these conditions.

If Sohail Khan is ever selected, PP pundits would want Misbah's head

Good areas till now from both bowlers. Hopefully they can continue it to give themselves the best chance.

Abbas is nowhere near Asif level

Surprisingly averages better than Asif and not too far away from Asif’s career test wickets. But, yes Asif had a lot going for him from height to insane skills and had the potential to be a legend.

He had one good match as well in WI, taking a 6 fer and that's it/

Asif made watching 130kph deliveries more enjoyable than 150kph spells.

Yeah what I meant to say was, Amir was expected to run through NZ on that green top in 2017. Jeet Raval blunted him out of Test cricket basically. Massive psychological defeat that day/series for Amir. No interest left in this format after this

wish Abbas was only even 10kph faster with 135 average pace, he would be up there with best

Ideal conditions for Abbas. He has to produce a performance in this situation.

I really enjoy Abbas bowling. Has such a rhythmic action. So consistent. Wish him a lot of success.

NZL will score atleast 350 here.

Considering how good they have been at home, it wont be surprising. Pak would need one of the bowlers to ball a top spell or two with wickets to have a chance.

A combination of Shoaib Akhtar, Shaheen and Asif in NZ would have been mouth watering.

Question is can the other seamers following these two maintain the pressure ?

No idea why Abid Ali gets so much hate on PP. Has only had one poor series, and he's being considered as the weakest link.

Shaheen will hopefully get more consistent with his areas as he gets more experience. He has the skills but, just needs that control which takes some time to come.

Every team have found the way to negate Abbas is by batting outside of the crease as he's not fast bowling at 120-125kph.

The other thing being is that Abbas is still working on getting to move the ball away from the right handers.

Technically, Kane is one of the best batsmen against LHF bowlers who look to shape the ball back into the batsmen. Soft-hands, playing it late under his nose, vertical bat to play it straight ish instead of towards midwicket.... makes LHF bowlers start bowling wider very quick into their spells.

I think Faheem can. He is a much improved bowler. Naseem is 50-50

Yes, Faheem is generally pretty accurate so unless he has a pretty bad day he should be okay.

If Shaheen can learn the outswinger to right handers then sky is the limit for him.

Yes and no. No surprises he's standing outside and playing with soft hands with bat pad close together.. that's the "optimal" technique if there was one. However, I feel Pakistan were very reactive against ENG in terms of timing Rizwan's move up to the wicket.

This time Rizwan is the captain. Time to see where his smarts reside.

why is Rizwan throwing it back straight away? The new ball is due after 74 overs after this, might as well make the most of this one whilst it’s new!

all these ooohs and aahs are good but we need to make some real inroads soon or else we will be looking down the barrel soon.
