New Zealand v Pakistan | Match 33, World Cup | Edgbaston | June 26, 2019 | New Zealand innings

Batting first is way to go but not too sure how our openers will handle boult in overcast condition

Is there a chance that Pak still qualifies if they lose today?. If Eng lose their next matches they will be at 8 points. If Pak wins (which they will) vs Afg and Ban they will be at 9 points.

Tricky decision for Pakistanis if they win toss...bat first on damp pitch and overcast conditions or bat first..anyhoos waiting for kiwis to pull a win and reach semis today

We are not going to win even chasing 150

This is the greatest NZ team of all time!
Even better than the team who came so close to winning the world cup last time round, but fell agonising short at the final hurdle! This team can well go one step better than that team and lift the wc!

Only 1 thing stands in their way -.

DESTINY!

It is pakistan's destiny to win this wc!
How else can you explain a team that was 2nd bottom of the table, with only 1 win, at the half way stage of the qualifying group, is now on the brink to qualify for the semis!

DESTINY!!!

Haha, send that in to Skysports. It's better & more exciting than any of the rubbish Nicholas opens up with.

Wasim Akram chats and gives advice to everyone except Pakistan

I think in a weird way Pakistan cricket is more complicated because there is always an old rivalry or ego or enemy floating around the set up somewhere- coach, selector, manager, players "contacts", bowling coach or whoever it is.

Overseas teams he has no complex network or history with they just invite him along & tell him how great he is.

Its no Brainer win the toss bat first and back your batting to put 270 here and win it with your bowlers. Pak must play positively here, they have been in UK the longest by any other country. So must back yourself.

250+ has been chased only once in this world cup which has had 28 completed matches. Let that sink in

Hardest match yet for us..we need to bat first..stick it out then get a score on the board..need to put the pressure on the Kiwis..because it is a must win for us, runs on the board matter for us. No way we will be able to chase..Just have to make sure we dont get blown away.

Sarfraz won last 3 tosses (SA, Ind, Aus) but we managed to win only 1 match out of those three...

Boult is dying to have a bowl here.
I hope we smash him to all parts and unsettle him.

Black Caps wary of Pakistan side that's full of match-winners, says assistant Luke Ronchi

The number of match-winners in the Pakistan side have the Black Caps wary ahead of their Cricket World Cup match tonight at Edgbaston, says assistant coach Luke Ronchi.

The unbeaten New Zealand side can secure their eighth semi-final spot with a win over a Pakistan.

The Black Caps have 11 points from six games while seventh-place Pakistan has five points with an outside chance of advancing to the last four after a 49-run win over South Africa, a result the Black Caps have been looking at closely

“The last game was brilliant, they did really well, they’ve got a lot of match-winners from top to bottom so the guys are doing their scouting and looking to what they need to,” Ronchi said.

Ronchi, who was behind the stumps for the Black Caps four years ago when the team reached the World Cup final, is enjoying the transition from playing to coaching.

“It’s been awesome, it’s completely different to playing, you obviously love playing and thing like that but now you’re at the backend of that sort of thing, you get to see it from a different angle.”

“You get to sit there and listen to Macca (batting coach Craig McMillan), Jurgo (bowling coach Shane Jurgensen), and Steedy (coach Gary Stead) do their things and sit back and watch it from a different viewpoint and I guess you get an overview of what’s sort of happening…it’s something I’m really enjoying."

New Zealand were forced indoors by rain in Birmingham today to prepare, although the forecast for the match is good.

You won the match where you batted first

Yea batting second was never our strength even back in 90s and 00s we defended low totals and thn we did again under Misbah but chasing 250+ was always a tough ask for Pak.

We need to win 2 matches and hope for good luck to qualify for the semi.

Its slowly getting brighter, good signs if we get to bat first, less likely to swing!
Also if we bat first, get that ball wet by hitting it into the wet patches on the outfield!
If we bowl - then its upto you M. Amir!

Is Shaheen still playing or have we decided to bring in a half decent bowler who can actually contribute?

We've only played Newzealand once before at Edgbaston back in 80's and we lost that game. Out of the 13 games we've played here we've only won 5. 4 of which we won batting second.

Become heroes, with every child on every street in pakistan and beyond chanting your names.
Rise pakistan cricket team like the phoenix and claim your destiny!
PAKISTAN ZINDABAD!

We should always bat first whatever the conditions. Given how timid, gutless and silly Sarfraz is, I can see him opting to bowl first.

According to Cricinfo, both teams are set to go unchanged.
I hope Munro fails again because if he plays out the first 15 overs then there can be some real problems coming up for Pakistan.

Edgbaston is traditionally an UNLUCKY ground for pak team!
I mentioned this in the pre match thread, everyone ignored it!
Time to change our luck!

Pakistan will have advantage of 1. bowling in overcast conditions 2. knowing the target in case DLS kicks in.

All they need is to make sure they don't lose enough wickets in chase.

We batting 2nd mean 80% match is lost!!!! Why can't Sarfraz won the toss?

Mute button always comes handy when Sarfraz opens his mouth.
