We're not out of the game just yet with Santner, Watling and Bracewell still there.

It's disappointing as we looked good for decent first innings lead before the top 3 handed control over to SL.

My prediction coming full circle, don't let me down Lanka.

Kiwis needs to be wary about preparing greentops for Australia.

Their batting (with the exception of Williamson) doesn't seem to be much better than Australia's
Preparing green wickets has nothing to do with the opposition. It's the only way to get results in NZ, otherwise our wickets are no better than yours.

Ok, is Chameera injured AGAIN? He hasn't bowled since the 33rd over, and he has only bowled 7 overs overall, having taken 3 wickets... or is this Mathews' genius at work again? :13:

From CI

Rangana is back, and we can confirm that Chameera is not suffering from any injury. Just being kept out for some ethereal reason by Mathews

 He makes Azhar look like a genius.

Heeeeeeey, that's harsh. Azhar is new on the job. And your boy dushmanth Chameera is back on.

Yeah... after a 35 over break. And he had bowled only 7 overs prior to that.

Seems to be down on pace now... perhaps not 100%? I don't know.

To be honest, don't really watch these matches a whole lot nowadays unless something exciting is going on... what can beat some pace like fiyaa. :akhtar

Fair point!

Chameera to Southee, OUT

Off you go. :23:

Chameera deserves a 5fer has easily been the best bowler from both teams.

Full credit to SL, they've out batted and bowled us in the first innings despite us having the better of conditions.

If SL are doing this to us at home, I fear what India and Pakistan will do the next time they tour.

This side isn't good enough to be a top 5 side.

Too dependent on KW (poor openers and weak middle order), no strike bowlers, no decent spinner and no enforcer.

Massive 2nd inns with bat for SL if they can get a lead of 250+ they could steal a test match here and level the series.

Well well everybody thought Sri Lanka would get rolled over but they've fought hard. Thought Chandimal, Mathews and Siriwardene (who I think is a gem of an all-rounder) batted well in tricky conditions first up. Wagner and Santner took a hammering and its a concern for NZ that their bowlers are too similar, hit a good length type seamers. Milne added that raw pace and his injury is a blow.

NZ didn't use DRS well and succumbed to a combination of rash shots (Guptill mainly who threw his wicket away on 50) and excellent pace bowling from Chameera who can be erratic but dangerous on his day.

SL though only have a slender lead so all not lost for NZ, they can still win this if they bowl SL out cheaply in the 2nd inns.

i used a free bet on sri lanka after day 1, looks like i'm gonna be in the money

lead of 50, and there was some zip for herath in first innings. a lead of 300 will more than enough i reckon.

a wretched two match series again though, they end and you havnt really learned anything from them.

What is wrong with Boult? Hasn't looked the same bowler since the beginning of the Australia series. Was very consistent prior to that. Still picks up occasional wickets but the aura isn't the same.

new zealand commentators blasting kookaburra. SL playing well

Whenever NZ are facing a hard situation they find something to complain about, umpiring, pitch, ball. There is always a reason why the other team are beating them.

I've noticed this as well. Particularly Ian Smith, man is always whining.

Nah, we're just not as good as fans and the media think. Since the WC Semi Final, we have been mediocre.

This side is going to be ranked around 5-7 in ODI's and Tests, simply don't have the bowlers to win Tests and aren't particularly great in ODI's.

lol to be fair i wouldve whined like hell after the lyon decision but you should see england as well. "pitches are too flat" well then why do you lose every test to us then mate

Doesn't change from the fact that the kookaburra is crap.

What annoys me most is this side wanted to be the number 1 side in the world - with the cricket they've been playing in the last year, they should be embarrassed with themselves.

Our so called best ever NZ side couldn't even beat one of the most inexperienced Australian sides ever and are now losing a Test to this SL side (without their best bowler)... Gutless stuff.

I think NZ would never have thought about or expected such surprising performance from SL...

You guys seriously gotta change the ball to Dukes to fully exploit the green deck.

Balls do matter but the quality of bowlers matter more... NZ lack quality Test bowlers... Boult has regressed after his comeback as was evident against Australia... He has lost pace and also aint much consistent in his line and length...

Not sure why have NZ selected Santner at 6 and that too as a specialist batsman... Why not Colin Munro? Both can bowl but Colin Munro is a better batsman than Santner...

come on sri lanka what the hell dude...

don't let the home side win yet again ffs...

want to see asian bros win now overseas :farhat

Need to go short, there's plenty of bounce in this wicket.

Chameera showed how to bowl on this wicket.

Wow. Throwing it away here....Some pretty mediocre bowling from the Kiwis and even more mediocre batting for the Sri Lankans.

Even if NZ win this (which looks likely at this stage), they've shown there is plenty to work on and a lot to think about in terms of tactics... The Australian series still looks set for 0-2, especially if we produce this track for the Aussie pacers.

A better and more experienced side would have won this match from where SL were at this morning Suleiman i.e. India, Pakistan.

Although wickets are falling left right and centre and it's exciting but got to say the standard of cricket has been pretty average. Batsmen from both teams are getting out the same way and aren't willing to show any perseverance, application and grit. It seems as if the teams have for the first time faced barrage of bouncers and have no answer for this 'novel' tactic!
Disappointing to say the least.

leatherface58 what do you think? NZ may win this series but 2-0 but they've been far from impressive...

Oh my god.

SL fans must be kicking themselves.
Too such a simple tactic, I expected it to work well... but I would have never imagined it to work out this well. Have to say the SL's have helped plenty..

It seems SL have gone the NZ approach (from the 1st innings). Returning the favor :))

The SL's should be embarrassed with that effort.

Rubbish, they topped our effort in the first innings with ease.

Pakistan would make just as big mess of it trust me LOL

I was just casually checking scorecard every now and than.

71-0 to 133-9 LOL even Pakistan would be proud of such an achievement.
