As the five-match T20I series heads to Auckland on Friday, Pakistan must step up in all aspects to keep their hopes alive. With less than a year to go before the next T20 World Cup, they need to prove—to both the world and themselves—that their struggles are not irreversible.

Pakistan, too, are missing key players, as they adapt to life without Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam in this format, while also dealing with the absence of the injured Saim Ayub. The new opening duo of Hasan Nawaz and Mohammad Haris is still finding its footing, but their struggles against pace and bounce in Christchurch, followed by poor shot selection in Dunedin, are concerning signs.

Meanwhile, New Zealand have remained largely untroubled. Their bowlers have performed seamlessly in favorable conditions, and despite dropping three catches in the first match, they have held on to 18 overall.

Pakistan, currently on a five-match losing streak in T20Is dating back to December in Zimbabwe, will be desperate to bounce back after a disappointing home Champions Trophy campaign and turn their fortunes around.

Squads:

Pakistan Squad:
Mohammad Haris(w), Hasan Nawaz, Salman Agha(c), Irfan Khan, Shadab Khan, Khushdil Shah, Abdul Samad, Jahandad Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Abrar Ahmed, Mohammad Ali, Omair Yousuf, Haris Rauf, Abbas Afridi, Usman Khan, Sufiyan Muqeem

New Zealand Squad: Tim Seifert, Finn Allen, Tim Robinson, Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Hay(w), Michael Bracewell(c), Zakary Foulkes, Kyle Jamieson, Ish Sodhi, Jacob Duffy, James Neesham, Ben Sears, William ORourke

If Pakistan win the toss, they should chase.

If they can restrict Kiwis to 170-180, it can be chased down in Auckland (small boundaries).

Will they make changes out of panic? New guy may think "oh lord i will have only 2 chances. I have to prove".Some of them look like hacks. But dropping them will send wrong message to others.

Woke up in morning to check score and was shocked to see NZ 115/2 in 18 ovs

Then realized it was NZ-W scorecard

I think we are gonna see some changes as well... Usman and OBY + abbas should come in for any of the other guys.

Pakistan have won the toss and have opted to field

Almost the team I predicted except for Hasan Nawaz still retained. I suppose it's fair for him to get another chance but I have no faith in MohdHaris at all. Abbas Afridi should had been playing from match 1.

I am ok with keeping the same batting line for this game as well. this could be their last chance,

Irfan niazi needs to understand his role now... He is playing at 4 which could be his spot later on as well if he clicks but so far he has been a failure there

Pakistan has a lot to prove in this series, especially with a new opening pair still finding its rhythm. The absence of key players like Babar and Rizwan is definitely being felt, but this is also a chance for younger talent to step up. New Zealand, on the other hand, looks well-settled, making Pakistan’s task even harder. Do you think the team can bounce back and break their losing streak in Auckland?

i highly doubt it haha

Small ground. perfect to go all guns blazing against spinners... You gotta be too good to survive.

Abrar is not a power play bowler. Don't know why Pakistan keep bringing him in early. Rizwan was making the same mistake

That is the reason haris is better than any other bowler from Pakistan. he can take wickets

Pathetic captaincy to bowl abrar for second over when he's gone for 17 in the first over we don't learn
