New Zealand were the better team in the 2019 World Cup final

Lots of controversy on that Guptill throw, Did ben stokes actually deflect it to the boundary?

If so then NZ has just been robbed off the world cup.

New Zealand would have won if the entire rulebook wasn't designed to make the cheats England win
 
its so painful, feels more hurtful than India's exit probably coz they were so close, so close!!
 
I cant believe i am so heartbroken for them.Its not even Pakistan losing.
They didnt deserve this.
 
The teams ended on par with each other, everything was tied so how was New Zealand better? The match was won by the side who were better throughout the tournament, hitting more sixes along the way.
 
No they were not. England had some luck for sure but NZ's win was in their own hands. They mucked it up and they have only themselves to blame.
 
Umpires giving wrong decisions against NZ

6 runs being awarded for overthrows when it wasnt the fault of fielders.

NZ tieing again in Super over yet losing.

What a pathetic humiliating win for England. Tainted win.
 
NZ chocked multiple times. That Boult catch for 6. How many stunners have NZ/Boult taken just in this tournament. That was a regulation catch for Boult (maybe a tough catch for most other fielders). Almost looked like he intentionally stepped over the rope to toss the ball to Guptil and make the catch look brilliant.

Sorry that was a choke. Not to mention the overthrow 6 which could happen to any team.
 
Why can't they play one more over, to break the tie, this winning by default is just wrong.

The least they should do is share the trophy
 
Embarrassing victory for England

Completely undeserved

They got all out and nz was only 8 down
 
Both teams scored 15 runs in the super over so why did England get awarded the cup?
 
NZ deserved to win it but England showed more clutch and clearly won.

Bad luck what happened with Stokes incident but part of the rulebook and it seemed total accidental.

NZ - Bould let the team down; and Guptill - out of form batsmen should never have come out for the super over.

Really wanted NZ to win - but they’ll win the next major tournament, I’m sure.
 
Kiwis deserved to win, really unfair result this..... atleast should have been declared joint winners.
 
Is hitting more sixes a perfect way to judge a performance of two teams?
Why not the team which takes more wickets(all 10 ) wins over who hae taken 8.
 
NZ had plenty of luck to get to this stage. I always that it would come against them eventually. But well played anyway.
 
The folks who were saying NZ didn't deserve to go through to SFs on NRR are now saying they deserved to win World Cup.
 
There should've been another super over as it was a tie poor rule to give England the trophy when it's a tie.
 
No, they choked. Couldn't score 3 off 2 balls, let Ben Stokes Butler bring England back into the game and then Stokes score 14 off the last over. Lets not forget they struggled batting first, posting only 241 when they needed at least 270+ to beat England.
 
How cruel a game can be for NZ.

They suffered an unlucky four from Stokes bat..

They scored down 15 runs in super over, yet it wasn't over.. So unfortunate..!!!
 
agree NZ deserved they pulled back after Stokes and Butler partnership
 
I don't what to feel. That was amazing.

I agree NZ were the better team. They should have won it, but that is how it goes.
 
Doesn’t matter about our opinion, the better team wins in the end.

Having said that, spare a thought for NZ. There has never been a team in ODI history who was so close to winning the cup but didn’t. Sadly there’s no medal for second place. Boult and co will be forgotten in history unless they win the next one.
 
I would blame Boult for this loss. He is their premier fast bowler. He went for 6.7 off his 10 and messed a simple catch by his and New Zealand's standards.
 
New Zealand deserved to win unlucky, an over throw that hits the batsman for four made the game for England and some posters say England don’t get lucky... today showed again Roy wouldn’t have made much of a difference in the Sri Lanka and Australia game. England aren’t good at chasing under pressure when the pitch has abit in it for the bowlers

Cricket is won or lost if you pick up the opponents wickets but some numpty in the ICC (most likely English) decided that if super over is tied we will check with boundaries :facepalm: :facepalm:..... the first thing to check would have been wickets
 
If, instead of boundaries, they had counted the total wickets taken then it would have been a celebration for NZ.
 
Stokes cant even answer questions about that moment out of embarrassment. Commentators saying he is just tired. Who are you fooling.
 
NZ list because they hit fewer boundaries. That is even more pathetic.

Play another super over. Do something else but this.
 
Congrats to both NZ and Eng on making the final very exciting . Both are deserving champions and England won by Technical reasons but anyway win is a win and Congrats to England for their maiden WC victory .
NZ will understand the pain now that India went through when they lost to them in SFs and it was poetic justice Guptil got run out and he was the one who made Dhoni run out which was crucial in India loosing the SF ,

They could have done another super over. Hardly takes 20 minutes to complete it. Like Wimbledon in final set you keep going till you win 2 consecutive games.

That's how it should be decided. If after 3 super overs it's still tied then share trophy to both teams.
 
As someone said . . England won the world cup, but NZ won the final . . That Ben stokes overthrow is such a rarity . . And became a difference between a world cup and nothing
 
NZ got ten wickets. If anything, it should have been them.

More boundaries, I mean where do they even come up with this crap.
 
If I remember correctly previously in case of a tie the team which lost fewer wickets was considered winner of the match.

I dont know what problem they had in playing another super over. That is the most logical solution to a tie in super over. Surely they cant expect every over to be a tie.
 
England won the World Cup but New Zealand won the final...........

Imagine if it was India or Pakistan instead of New Zealand? Our fans and ex playere would have declared a war against ICC everywhere. :inti

NZ are the actual winners make no mistake about it. God save all self respecting teams from such a lanti and tainted win which england got.
 
Winner of wcc 2019 is clearly "pathetic icc rules" feels really sad for nz they could have easily won but thanks to those disgusting icc rules nz are deprived of a world cup trophy

Well said. A loss is hard to swallow but everyone accepts it. Injustice however is unacceptable.
 
They were definitely the better team, got robbed today. Also a bit ironic though, they were lucky throughout the tournament, but unlucky when it really mattered.

Yes if Benstokes hit that ball for six instead of overthrow it would have been easily digested as eng won on skills but with that silly overthrow rule and disgusting boundry rule nz is out which is very painful.

Cricket has not got the worthy winners today. Kiwis were the clear better side and anyone with one functioning eye saw that.
