Newcastle emotions got the better of them , a red card was coming from min 1.

Good energy but way over the top . 2/3 great chances , ironically Isak would have scored at least one .

Liverpool need to now make them run , tire them out and look for the 2nd which will be enough for 3 big points
 
2nd game In a row Newcastle have played well until final 3rd and then been wasteful. They need to sign a new striker or sort isak issue out

Not sure which fans hearts dropped more .. Liverpool when 10 man equalised .. or Newcastle and rivals when the kid got the winner 🤣

Great game . Newcastle played brilliantly done their fans proud . The champions find a way again.
 
Don't think I can stomach a season of this !

Newcastle threw the kitchen sink at us even with 10 men. We've got some real issues at the back to address - Marc Guehi can't be signed sooned enough.

There are times in football when the better team doesn't win and that was the case tonight

Losing late on is never a nice feeling but I thought the players were magnificent, stupid from Gordon to get himself sent off but thought the team were different class when we went down to 10 men

Not just losing a player to a red card (a deserved red card) but then losing two key players to injuries but still finding a way back takes some effort, it's just a shame we couldn't quite hold on as the team did deserve to get something for their performance

Not sure who will play up front next week, we've lost our makeshift striker

Still, Eddie is mint so I'm confident once we get going we can have a decent season

So sad. Another game where Newcastle have gone unlucky and almost certainly would have won with Isak.

I don't like this nonsense of having the transfer window open when the premier league has already began. Teams if they sell now, will not have time for replacements. Even if teams get their players there's no pre season. The transfer window should be shut a few weeks before the season starts. Then everyone can focus on transfers and you wont have players throwing their team under the bus begging for transfers.

Worst Liverpool performance for a very long time.

Football can be very cruel at times, best team certainly did not win today. If they play like this more often in the season, you guys will have a decent season.
 
To leave Eddie Howe without a striker looks really bad on Newcastle ownership right now and it’s not on Isak. He’s not the first to wanting to go to another club for whatever reason.

It is partly on him though

Whilst Wissa/Larsen are Wilson replacements their clubs don't see it like that, they simply see us as potentially having £100m and desperate for a striker and then cranked up the prices for them

CFs are all the craze again. I’ve said previously Liverpool want him to ensure the CL.

Isak sized hole is difficult for any club to fill and those clubs are trying to of course maximise their gains but Newcastle ownership, how have they fared in your eyes? Especially vis-à-vis supporting the manager in transfer market last couple of years.

Not sure why Newcastle are going after larsen. Average player, wolves are demanding silly money for him.

In regards to wissa he's done well in PL, so I can see why they are demanding a good price in same way they did for mubemo

Because we are now desperate and when you are desperate you lower your standards/expectations

This is the annoyance with PSR because of resale value we will bid more for Larsen than Wissa

I can't fault the ownership, when they took over in October 2021 we were an absolute shell of a club, both on and off the pitch.

We had a poor squad with a useless manager.

What we've done since then has been pretty remarkable really, with Howe being the key but the ownership have definitely backed him to the limit.

The last few windows have been disappointing but that's not due to the owners it's because of PSR our hands have been tied. Which is exactly what PSR has been designed to do imo. The established clubs don't want anyone else taking a slice of the pie they wrongly believe belongs to them.

Up until now I can't fault the ownership but the next 12-18 months are crucial in terms of off the field, we will see how much they are really invested in the club and how much they want us to really kick on. The stadium situation needs to be resolved, if it's announced we are building a new stadium then we know their ambitions do match their talk but if we do an extension/refurb then I don't think their actions will match the talk.

You should try to get in Højlund, I know Napoli almost have him, but a last hard try could be your solution. Newcastle create so many chances that I am sure he will convert 1-2 in goals every match.

The PSR rules are agreed by vote by all clubs in the PL. I dont agree with it as I agree the bigger clubs will always have more purchasing power because their income is the most. Its up to the clubs who wants these rules to change, to simply vote this out.

I am aware of how the rules came to be but you have to remember there is a chunk of owners in the league that are not interested in really kicking on, they are happy to just float and take the premier league money each season so the PSR rules are ideal for those clubs

I include us in that because when the rules were implemented we had Mike Ashley as owner and he was the least ambitious owner around so he voted for them as he had no intention of trying to kick the club on but neither did he want another club with ambition to come and take some premier league money from him

The difficulty now is you need 13 clubs to vote to overturn it, you instantly have the big 6 that will vote against it, maybe City won't but then they'd just need a couple of cuck clubs such as Palace/Brentford which they will easily get

My biggest issue with PSR, aside from it existing is that the amount is absurd, the £105m was set over 10 years ago, it's ridiculous that it is still the same amount, we are now seeing average players going for big money that for me this figure needs to change

Good information for those who dont know and I agree with this.

The problem now for Newcastle is even if you had unlimited spend, would the Saudis outbid any other club or offer the biggest wages? There are reports the Saudi state is selling its top 4 clubs to private investors and doesn want to use public funds for such huge outlays. They will prob keep paying the likes of Ronaldo big bucks but it seems the bandwagon is slowing down now.

You wrote earlier unsure if they will build a new stadium, I doubt they will now. Saudis will still spend money but want this club to make profits. If Newcastle and the league do decide to dump PSR it may not change things much, the bigger clubs will still spend a lot and will attract the best players.

Judging by other sports and how much money Saudis have thrown into sports like golf, tennis, boxing, football (Saudi league) then you can more then likely say that if PSR wasn't around they would blow pretty much every team out of the water with purchase. PSR benefits those teams that are already established.

Il agree here with @Geordie Ahmed on the fact that with increased money now in football. For example you get 160M for finishing in Top 5, you can make 100M just from reaching knockout stages of CL etc... that their should be an increase on the 3 year cycle amount for spending.

Other option is you basically allow clubs to spend what they want, but those owners have to put the exact same amount in a escrow account. So that if the club does look like they could go bust on stupid spending, then owners mitigate that risk. But that won't happen

I think that was always the plan in terms of selling those 4 clubs, they just wanted to kick start things so then private investors can take over

If PSR was removed I don't think they would chuck millions at it but it would mean we aren't forced to sell Anderson/Minteh, we could have offered Isak a pay rise much earlier and maybe not have this issue created etc

I just want something that's a bit fairer

I like the anchoring idea, where the limit is set by the highest club, so if say City have the highest revenue then the limit is set by that and it applies to all clubs but to ensure we don't have dodgy owners they have to provide proof of funds

City's and Chelsea increased revenue was done over time, buy ultimately it came from being able to throw money around over a period with no regulations or less strict regulations

For a Newcastle, villa and other teams wanting to become regular established CL qualifying teams you would need to increase match day revenues, sponsorship etc.. to do that organically or quickly is not possible.

Only way round it would be to remove limits but then owners need to sign waivers saying they are responsible if club goes bust. You know that won't happen.

PSR isn't technically fair on less established clubs, also any other applied rules like a costing rule based on what a club earns etc.. May loosen spending abit but still would benefit establish sides.

Otherwise you need a situation like at Wrexham where your well connected owners can use leverage on sponsorship deals like netflix, Disney etc.. to essentially quick up the revenue growth.

Reality is now is that Newcastle, Villa, forrest etc.. would need European football every season just to be able to buy players to go up a level.

With UEFAs rules even more restrictive than PSR you won't see a huge change to rules.

The new owners have put in place a proper structure, as you mentioned a top class manager etc. They need to continue and build on this. Do you have a new training ground? As for the stadium, its a tough place to visit so any new stad must have same energy.

The MD who is in partnership with the Saudis seems to be the one making decisions. It was mentioned he spoke to Isak before the match last night. Any further updates on him?

Current training ground has had improvements done to it and just the other day planning permission was granted to extend it. The club did say until they find a suitable plot of land they will improve the existing training ground but those comments would have come from Staveley so whether it remains the case we shall see

A new stadium is necessary from a revenue perspective, especially with the PSR constraints, it's reported a new stadium could generate double the revenue of expansion/refurb of the existing one so there is big benefits to building new, however a new stadium costs money and who will fund that?

Jamie Reuben is the one that went to Isak's house, his family own 15% of the club. PIF own the remaining 85%. Also at the house was the head of PIF Europe. The chairman attended the game but wasn't at his house.

We haven't heard anything yet as to what was discussed or the outcome of those conversations
